    Classy with pizzazz!

by CrazyCanuck on 2010-08-31Chateau Ste Michelle Winery - Woodinville

Another stellar performance by one of the most musically talented bands ever! China Forbes mezmorized us for the entire evening, it was my girlfriend's retirement gift from her workmates and we had a wonderful time. Truly the entertainment was worth driving down from Vancouver, Canada for the evening. We'll be back for their next performance.

    Pink Martini hypnotic!

by Linmayhow on 2009-07-22Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Pink Martini took the Vancouver audience on a wonderful musical adventure from opera to big band to Latin. This group is so versatile and talented that it succeeded in captivating the audience. China Forbes, lead singer has a wonderfully versatile voice and impressed the audience with her ability to sing in a variety of languages and styles. This group is hot!

Pink Martini should have played "Hello Eugene"!

by Sooz on 2009-07-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

The Orpheum in Vancouver is a lovely venue. Unfortunately not every seat is good there. We had the lower priced tickets, but still were about $122 for two tickets... The sound was great. The seats not so good - some people were not sitting properly and blocked our view... Pink Martini played with the VSO and every other song would be an instrumental song. We would have loved to hear China Forbes sing more. Love her voice. She is so talented and she looked beautiful in her gowns that evening. They sounded awesome and with the VSO of course. We wanted more of Pink Martini and left feeling shorted. I love their sound but will not pay to see them again unless at a different venue and probably not during the Jazz Fest.

    Icing on the icing

    by CakeLady51 on 2009-07-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Icing on the icing? It is possible to have too much of a good thing! The symphony that played with Pink Martini was overkill. Not only not needed but a detraction from the show I wanted to see. Next time go it on your own Pink Martini. You are fabulous!

    Pretentious

by Cuchupo on 2009-07-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

With so many great things to listen at the festival, I'm sorry I spent my money on this one.

    Pink Martunies

by scout on 2009-07-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I have seen the Pink Martini's on a number of occasions. They have never disappointed. This was the first time I say them with a full orchestra. It was interesting and enjoyable in a different way. I cannot say that I enjoyed it as much as when I have seen them just on their own. I would probably not run out to see them again if playing with a full orchestra. I will tell you that I took my mother along who has never seen them. She thought they were just amazing!

    Very disappointing

by Karmen on 2009-07-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

What a petty! We were soooo looking forward to see this group again.... Their first CD was such a pleasure to listen to! For many years... This time, though, they didn't bring anything new, even our old favorites looked very different, almost weird... I don't think we will ever go for their concert in the nearest future.

    Truly unique

by RichJenk on 2009-07-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Pink Martini are like no other group. This was the second time I attended their concert. Only disappointment was their male lead singer whose name I have forgot did not sing at all. China Forbes was wonderful as usual but I would have liked to have heard him again as he was exceptional in the 1st concert.

    Which One's Pink?

by grobworthy on 2009-07-16Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Audience members had the pleasure of being both shaken and stirred as Pink Martini took the Orpheum stage as part of the Vancouver Jazz festival. Backed up by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Pink Martini decided not to go with the usual songs from their latest album "Hey Eugene." Instead of seeing it as a promotional gig, they saw this as an opportunity to get back to their roots and play the stuff they'd played before, back in Harvard when they met. The hall's acoustics and the backing symphony allowed them to perform their audition pieces once again. You could tell they were enjoying themselves. China sang an opera aria that brought the house down. They played Gershwin with the symphony, and I felt like I finally got what Gershwin was about. There was a lazy chaos about the piece. Not polished to death. Loose and sensual. And the violinist did a real virtuoso Hiefitz piece. The cellist did something equally classical and emotional. I mean they're all ridiculously good. The brass just laid it down. And the drummer with some crazy instruments. They just delivered. A milestone of a concert if you ask me.

    China was amazing!

by Anderson on 2009-07-16Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Great musicians accompanied by a great orchestra. Right from the start till the end songs after songs of magical melodies. Highlight of the night was when they did "Brazil" got the entire audience up on their feet dancing. La Chambra was magical better than on CD. La Soledad and Donte Estes Yolanda was all perfectly done.

Pink Martini should drop session side musicians

by liquid on 2009-07-16Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

As an audiophile I have very high acoustic standards and as I attend many performances in the Orpheum, I know how fabulous it can be. The group did itself a dis-service with the 51 extra musicians...scores couldn't be worked through etc. The 2 pieces they did as an encore with the 12 members of the group showed their musical talents instantly

This is how I listen to music!!

by Janis on 2009-07-16Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

This is eclectic but not eccentric, multi-genre, always 'cool for some reason' music, informing you without realizing it. One emerges dancing, grooving and thinking all at the same time. This seems to be a new thing, with the orchestra, and I would say YES except tech-wise, the sound was not as good as it should have been. Is that them? the Jazz Festival? or the acoustics of the theatre? Her voice needed more mic, that's all. It was virtuostic in many ways, and the whole thing moved like a movie I wanted to be in. Went to bed happy, and dreamed of the original small group in a similarly small venue playing for me and my man while we ate sexy food. That's five star, right?

    Good...but

by pogda on 2009-07-16Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Should have dismissed the orchestra after intermission. Lost some of their funkiness so evident at their performance at the Centre 2 years ago.

    Great again

by Dermot on 2009-07-16Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Seeing Pink Martini with a full orchesatra was a lifetime experience. Many of the bands songs are structured around strings and horns, but it is a rarity to hear the full performance live. I highly recommend PM anytime they are in town.
