    Wizard of Oz

by Slep on 2016-01-04National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Hard to think any real live stage production could come close to invoking the the charm, emotion, and special effects of the original screenplay. But this one does, and more. All the familiar characters come to life right before your eyes, and the story is true to original. Near perfect casting from witches to munchkins to man-lions. Even the puppy who played Toto kept his place through all the action, but knew his part when asked to run or chase as good as his human counterparts. The backdrops and front screens worked perfectly with the stage sets and lighting, bringing the scenes to life also. My 90 year old mother said she felt like a kid again: she laughed, wept, and shouted just like the two 8 yr olds in front of us. This show definitely spanned a few generations.

The show was good. Not the best we've seen not the worst. I think that our seats affected our enjoyment. Throughout the second act the guy behind us smacked his gum the whole time. It was a challenge as well. While it was not a result of the show it did impact our enjoyment.

    wizard of Oz

by Mariejoann on 2016-01-03National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The production was fantastic. We were sitting in upper balcony and quite often we couldn't hear what was going on. The music was louder then the actors when talking. This was the case especially at the beginning. It would be much better is you only had the characters talking no music

good show spoiled by bad accoustics

by dumbon on 2016-01-03National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

while the show and cast were very good, the sound level of spoken sections was clear in the upper reaches of the N.A.C. The little dog was the star of the show

    Wizard Of Oz

The performance was amasing. So true to the movie with Judy Garland. The girl that played the lead has a voice so close to Judy's. One of the best, that I have seen in some years. Though I did love Jersey Boys.

    Wizard of Oz was spectacular!

by LoveMusicalTheatre on 2016-01-02National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Everything was amazing: sets, costumes, singing, acting. The technical aspects like the sound, lighting and projection were so well put together they brought the show to life! The characters were a great mix of the movie and yet it never seemed they wee copying the movie, they just highlighted those things that everyone remembers and loves. If I had any feedback it would only be that I would have liked to see Glinda in white. While her dress was breathtakingly beautiful I still would've liked the classic white gown. It was my daughter's second time going to see a show at the N.A.C. And she would go back again and again, as would I. Thank you for a memorable experience!

Excellent! Enough of the old for nostalgia, yet innovative "new" to make the performance truely enjoyable.

Great fun down the yellow brick road!

by DrRick on 2016-01-01National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I attended the Wizard of Oz with my wife and children (ages 20 & 24) and my daughter's boyfriend. My wife is a big fan of the Wizard of Oz and believes that it contains many important life lessons. We had a great time! The actress who played Dorothy was amazing and her voice was incredible. I think the second song was "Somewhere over the rainbow" and I was mesmerized. I quite enjoyed how they used a screen and used film to transition between scenes and to set up new scenes. Quite clever and effective. The sets used vivid colour and immersed us into the world of oz. I also really enjoyed the depiction of the Wicked Witch. That actress did a really good job! Well done to all!

    Wizard of Oz

by margie1954 on 2016-01-01National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Amazing production. Attended with my 11 year old grand daughter and 6 year old niece and both age groups were totally captivated. The 6 yr old was singing along with the songs (out loud) while the 11 year old never took her eyes off stage. The special effects were wonderfully done....right down to the fire from the witches broom stick. I highly recommend seeing this. Great for both young and old alike!!

Nice to see our local star Danielle Wade perform!

by Tram3 on 2014-07-02Detroit Opera House - Detroit

From kids, youth to adults, the show was enjoyed by all! It was also nice to see our local star Danielle Wade perform the role of Dorthy Gale - she was fantastic! After the show, the cast members greeted the fans outside to signed autographs and have a picture taken. The Detroit Opera house is beautiful; not a bad seat in the house.

    Great show, poor venue

by Steiner79 on 2014-06-21Detroit Opera House - Detroit

The show was wonderful and Danielle Wade is a fantastic performer! Great effects and cool lighting throughout. We were really disappointed with the venue. Seats were horrible and the sound was not loud enough. We were straining at some points to hear what the performers were saying. The seats were uncomfortable and there is no leg room. Hard to see over the people a few rows in front of us. Definitely would recommend to see this show, but at a different location.
