by Goddesskunda on 2010-10-26Copp's, Hamilton ON - HamiltonCopp's in Hamilton. My grand-daughter (4 yrs) had no expectations because she wasn't told about the show until we arrived. We told her it was a surprise; so she could be nothing but elated. If we had told her ahead of time, she'd likely have been dissappointed. The show was "okay," mostly because I was with my daughter and grand-daughter. We enjoyed the skating and stories. There were no expectations for the skaters to excel, therefore there was no disappointment in that way; they performed as well as could be expected, but it was noticed their hearts weren't in it. The poison apple scene was the only time there was audience interaction to excite all the children. The Witch and Snow White performed well. And the Ursala creature was very exciting for the children. That was very enjoyable for my grand-daughter. She was afraid during the Ursula scene, and wanted to leave, but that's part of the excitement, and one of her most memorable moments (the scary part). We held on tight and soon she couldn't stop smiling. We told her everything would be fine and rode it out. She relaxed and felt safe and was very happy with seeing Cinderella too. We had VIP seats and were in the front row. The sound was terrible. IT SEEMS THE SOUND WAS PEGGED TOO LOUDLY IN AN ATTEMPT TO COMPENSATE FOR HOW AWFUL SOUNDING THE ENTIRE PERFORMANCE WAS (analog? mono?). OTHER THAN THE LACK-LUSTRE CHOREOGRAPHY, THE POOR SOUND QUALITY IS THE MAIN REASON FOR GIVING THIS 2 STARS. That wasn't fair to the skaters/performers or the audience. I hope to not pay premium price for Princesses on Ice again unless there is some type of indicator it's been greatly improved, or we're given free tickets as compensation. The merchandise is terribly costly, but that's expected gauging, and doesn't have a bearing on this review. A funny thing was: on our way home my grand-daughter asked what her surprise was!! Heeheeheeheehee!! GK
