Edmonton Oilers History

The origin of the Oilers goes back to 1972, when they were one of the founding franchises of the World Hockey Association. Once the league folded in 1979, they were one of four teams absorbed into the National Hockey League. It didn't take long for them to establish dominance in the league, reeling off five Stanley Cup Championships in seven years. They are tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the most championships since the NHL-WHA merger.

The Oilers of the '80s were a phenomenal dynasty with a roster that reads like the Hockey Hall of Fame: Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, Glenn Anderson, Grant Fuhr, Jari Kurri, plus a stellar supporting cast. Gretzky scored 92 goals in 1982, breaking Phil Esposito’s record for number of goals in a single season. He also recorded a record 215 points in 1985. During his time with the Oilers as centre and team captain, Gretzky led the team to four Stanley Cup championships (1984, 1985, 1987, and 1988). By the time Gretzky finished his time with the Oilers, he held or shared a total of 49 NHL records.

In all, the Edmonton Oilers have appeared in the Stanley Cup Final seven times.

Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place

NHL superstar Connor McDavid and NHL legends Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier opened the doors to the spectacular Rogers Place in downtown Edmonton in October 2016. McDavid and his Edmonton Oilers bring excitement to Rogers Place nightly, with the statue of The Great One standing guard just outside. The state-of-the-art Rogers Place replaced the aging Rexall Place, and resulted in an explosion of business and residential growth in downtown's ICE District.

Easy to navigate through the seat selection process. The seats are held for you to fill in all of the required account information if not already done ahead of time, and can check on the status of your tickets at any point in time. Seats in Rogers Place were fantastic!

    Oilers vs Jets

by Disenchanted on 2023-03-06Rogers Place - Edmonton

Drunken and vulgar fans at seating level 200. Friday night with multiple families with children present. Three guys kicked out after the first period for drunken and disorderly conduct and for using foul language. Drunken person in row behind us fell on us and spilled beer over 3 of us. By the end of the second period, this person was involved in a confrontation with other fans because he was standing all the time and blocking people’s view. We felt VERY unsafe, and we’re glad we happened not to wear our Jets jerseys. As it was, we left the game after the second period and watched the rest of the game at our hotel. Jets played horrible and it was 5-0 for the Oilers, but we still hi-fived the Oiler fans on their success. Lastly, this was our first hockey experience at Rogers Centre and my wife’s 1st time at an away hockey game. She asked to leave early and will not come back again. The same goes for me! We thought it would be a great experience to attend the game, especially as our Jets were here in Edmonton to play the Oilers. We would have been better served to spend the money at one or two of the nice restaurants here. Disappointed AND Disenchanted!!!!

Awesome New Years Eve Oilers vs Jets

by Phil on 2023-02-17Rogers Place - Edmonton

Great experience, Rodgers place was awesome 👏 Club seating and hospitality room was first class, really enjoyed the chicken Quseadilla’s and server was very nice. Forgot a bag with my winter 🥶 clothing accessories in it under a table. Bar tender suggested I use the coat check, they told me security checked my bag which I think 🤔 was great your security was on it. They never hassled me at all though :) ! Great free concerts as well. The only thing I thought 💭 could be better is that there was only one main entrance. Winnipeg uses multi entrances to their arena and I find it a lot more efficient and convenient. Thx again for a great time Phil and Phyllis 🍾🥂👏👍

by JG on 2023-01-22Rogers Place - Edmonton

Great game, would be nice if the guys behind us wouldn't spill their beer and keep talking about how they were going to f$#@ each other's mothers with my 7 and 6 year old directly in front of them.
