Edmonton Oilers History
The origin of the Oilers goes back to 1972, when they were one of the founding franchises of the World Hockey Association. Once the league folded in 1979, they were one of four teams absorbed into the National Hockey League. It didn't take long for them to establish dominance in the league, reeling off five Stanley Cup Championships in seven years. They are tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the most championships since the NHL-WHA merger.
The Oilers of the '80s were a phenomenal dynasty with a roster that reads like the Hockey Hall of Fame: Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, Glenn Anderson, Grant Fuhr, Jari Kurri, plus a stellar supporting cast. Gretzky scored 92 goals in 1982, breaking Phil Esposito’s record for number of goals in a single season. He also recorded a record 215 points in 1985. During his time with the Oilers as centre and team captain, Gretzky led the team to four Stanley Cup championships (1984, 1985, 1987, and 1988). By the time Gretzky finished his time with the Oilers, he held or shared a total of 49 NHL records.
In all, the Edmonton Oilers have appeared in the Stanley Cup Final seven times.

Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place
NHL superstar Connor McDavid and NHL legends Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier opened the doors to the spectacular Rogers Place in downtown Edmonton in October 2016. McDavid and his Edmonton Oilers bring excitement to Rogers Place nightly, with the statue of The Great One standing guard just outside. The state-of-the-art Rogers Place replaced the aging Rexall Place, and resulted in an explosion of business and residential growth in downtown's ICE District.
The Edmonton Oilers’ 2023–24 regular season kicks off in October at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, when the Oilers face off against the Vancouver Canucks. The Oilers take on Alberta rivals the Calgary Flames in the 2023 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton on October 29. The team plays their final game of the regular season at home against Western Conference opponents the Colorado Avalanche. Here’s a list of key games to keep an eye on:
Tickets for the 2023–24 regular season can be purchased on Ticketmaster, the Official Ticket Marketplace of the Edmonton Oilers.
The Oilers have made seven appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, and have won the championship five times (in 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990).

Not sure what can be done regarding the drunken groups of young men who spew profanity loudly and continuously. Not exactly family friendly. Not likely to support the Oilers live again. Seats at home are just as good and there are other events in Edmonton worthy of my dollars.
First game for the family this year. Concession prices are out of control. 25+ for two beers and popcorn for the kids was ridiculously overpriced.
Really enjoyed the game and the Rogers Place arena. Too bad beer is so expensive.
Rogers is always a great place to watch hockey, but the food and drink prices are ridiculous. How much money does Darrel need????
What amazing atmosphere, if you havn't taken in Oilers game or any event in top notch venues. Thoroughly enjoyed!!
Rogers Place is amazing! Super easy to get around, everything is top of the line from seating to concessions to in arena promotions. Obviously the Oilers hockey is top notch as well!
if you can’t afford the lower level seats the new upper level is not for the faint of heart. i couldn’t sit in our seats but I received excellent service from the concierge moving me to the special seating area and enjoyed the game from there..
Bought a really nice seat in section 107, row 17. Amazing views of the ice. Disappointed when I got to my seat as there was a very large man seated next to me. His thighs were bigger than 3 of mine. I know that’s not his fault however between him and the other fella on the other side I literally had no room to sit or get comfortable. It was so bad I left in the second period and did not return for the third period. I watched the game by walking around the concourse. Not what I envisioned when I paid $200+ for one ticket.
Soup to runny, soup to runny, soup to runny, soup to runny
Well the first game of the season was a win. Great venue at Rogers Place. Good food and friends. Comfortable seats with a great view from every seat. They let Vancouver have a few easy goals just to tease us. Strong team with high expectations this year.
As a Canadian now living in the UK, I was able to easily purchase tickets to an Edmonton Oiler game online via TICKETMASTER, in advance of my recent holiday visit back home. Thanks to Ticketmaster, it was a real treat to see 'my team' perform live again 😊
We, along with several others were refused entry due to bag size from the club seating line. However, it appears that security person was not aware of their 12”x12”x6” bag limit and was turning away MUCH smaller bags. We missed most of the first period returning to our car to stash my bag, which was well within the size limits. When we arrived at our seats in the Sportsnet club, we were further disappointed to find several people with large bags sitting in the same area.
Sat in section 118 row 5. Goid view of the game. Easy to get to game with lrt.
Rogers is a beautiful building and although sometimes lines seem long they move fast. The only thing I’d suggest is ensuring the staff know their stuff about the arena. Had a mom with her baby come to their first game and when asked customer service if there was a family bathroom with change table they didn’t know. Baby was changed on the floor in the women’s bathroom. At the end of the night we passed the family bathroom.
So great watching the Oil get swept by the Avalanche in route to a STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONSHIP. can you believe they pay more for Nurse than Makar. Clowns.
I was able to go to game 4 since it was on my day off. I was able to get a standard ticket in Section 201 in the last row. It is a good sight line even though it is high above the ice. Experiencing an Oilers in Edmonton is virtually an essential part of experiencing live entertainment in the city. I had no problems at all with the service provided by ticketmaster or arena staff. I will echo anyone's lament and acknowledge that the price of NHL playoff games as well as any food or beverage purchases in the arena can make them unaccessible to many fans.
Nothing but a great experience at the game. The in game entertainment was good I enjoyed every minute at Rogers Place.
Loud and proud oiler fans, the games were fun the oilers should consider opening the tailgate 3-4 hours before game time, Edmonton makes the playoffs so special. Maybe some renovations to increase bathrooms would be nice
It was unbelievable...The Roger's Place arena it is amazing and all hockey players it's so good this season...Let's go Oilers!
