    Great show

by Tlc on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

Venue parking was not very good. Seemed like half the audience was late.

Love Jim Gaffigan - shame I couldn't hear the show.

by AD on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

We had the misfortune of being seated beside 3 late arriving loud males who spent the whole show loudly sharing and laughing at their own (presumed) hilarity. They were asked to hush up by the poor lady sat immediately in front of them but just ignored her. There were no venue staff in the vicinity to ensure those who actually wanted to hear the show could do so. The whole situation was not helped by the poor sound system. Overall, it was a disappointing evening, with slow and chaotic parking facilities to round out the experience. Any artists considering using this venue should think about the impact on their fans.

    Good

by Andy on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

The show was funny. The venue had issues. A security guard left his radio on for the first 1/4 of Jim Gaffigan’s act (UBC Thunderbird arena sec 117). Who does this? Clueless guy. Kind of ruined the first bit of the show.

    Underwhelmed

by JIC on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

Looking forward to it, always liked Netflix show, the first act was very humble and funny, but Jim was mediocre at best with dated amateur humour. I would also say the venue was not the right place for Standup, disappointing, expected a much funnier, more professional, and slicker show.

    Had Fun at Gaffigan

by Gaffigan Fan on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

Doug Mitchell is a good venue, although it seems that the bathrooms weren't big enough for a full house with floor seating. The microphone was a bit quiet so at times it was hard to hear the comedies. But I did like that the show started on time, and that it was done by 915pm. Jim and his opener were funny. Good time overall

Jim was great! Getting to the show was a disaster!

by Zeus on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

Hope to see Jim again in a better setting. Parking for the venue was complete gridlock! You would need to arrive at least 40 minutes sooner than normal just to park your car. Once you parked, then the really 'crazy' started. the show should have started at 7:30 but at 7:30 the zigzagging lines outside still seemed a mile long. It took over half an hour of lines moving this way, then redirected to turn the other way, and meandering toward the entrance (in the rain). Once inside, it was just as chaotic! Our seats were on the floor and we had to get to them via the most difficult route, all the way around the building to get to the ONE DOOR that they allowed us to pass through to get on the floor...needless to say...this door had yet another long lineup. There were a couple of entrances at which people lined up to get to the floor, but once at the door were turned away and told that this entrance was closed. We, along with all the unhappy people we spoke with in the various lines, ended up missing the first act as a result. For what we expected to be a happy night of comedy and laughter, turned very annoying. A very poorly managed venue for this event.

    Love Jim but…

by Kath on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

I felt it was the wrong venue. Very echoey and insanely difficult to park and get out of the parkade after (took a hour of not even moving). Both comedians were hard to hear at times because the acoustics weren’t the best. Jim Gaffigan often lets his voice trail off or speaks softly and we struggled to hear him. I was a bit disappointed the show ended so early! Jim was barely an hour. Love him, he’s hilarious! Just thought he’d end in a bigger way. He just literally stopped and said good night. Seemed odd. I thought he’d be coming back for an encore, but no 🤷‍♀️ The warm up comedian was hilarious too!

    Great comic, shitty venue

by Rae on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

5 stars because Jim was hilarious! The venue, not so great. Last time I will ever go there. Hopefully Jim will chose a different venue the next time he comes to Vancouver. The Thunderbird stadium is a sports arena and should really just be for sports. The seats are shit, the eco of the speaker is crappy while the parking is a hot mess.

    Parking nightmare

by Not impressed on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

I think the stand up show on the whole made me realize that that Netflix is highly produced. It was funny, but not the entire way through like Netflix. The parking however, was a disaster. It took 45 minutes to exit the car park, that was as long as the show Plus showtime said 7:30, and it really did not start until 8. He did not even take the stage until after and the entire show was maybe an hour All the exits to the building should have been opened at the end, but they funneled everyone thru the front doors. It was so dense and I felt herded I really did NOT like the venue for those reasons. Plus UBC is way out of the way

    Pretty good - quite short.

by Vic on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

I'm not sure I would spend money to see Jim Gaffigan live. His set was about an hour. The show was supposed to start at 7:30 pm but his opening act (who was good) started at 7:50 pm and went until about 8:15 pm. Gaffigan came out and was done by 9:15 pm. Also - in light of how much time he has spent in the area I thought a bit more effort at local content (other than "you have a lot of Sleep Country stores") might have been good. Overall - it just felt like he phoned this one in a bit. Lots of potty humour, etc.

    Gaffigan

by Mark on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

The show was superb in every way. The venue (Thunderbird Arena) was terrible. Show was to commence by 7:30 except we couldn’t into the building due to the massive lineup down the street that took 45 minutes to get through. Fortunately it was only the majority of the warmup act we missed. Poor planning I think.

    Horrible parking experience!

by Lori T. on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

The parking lot was jammed when we tried to leave. After 45 minutes of not moving people started backing up, turning around and leaving through the entrance. It realled put a damper on a fun filled show with Jim Gaffigan.

Funny Show, but Abrupt End & Terrible Parking

by John H on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

I love Jim Gaffigan & the first half of the show was super funny, even funnier than I expected. The middle part had some religious stuff which wasn’t as funny. Jim then did some other material, & abruptly ended the show. I’m not sure why, maybe it was a time limit issue. The show started late because of poor organization for entering the building. I know people were surprised & disappointed by the sudden end. It then took an hour to be able to exit the parkade. I’ll be avoiding this venue in the future. I’d give Jim a 4/5 for the show, but it drops to a 3/5 because of the venue.

    Funny but uncomfortable

by LeAnne on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

The opening act, and of course Mr. Gaffigan were very funny! We had a great time with lots of belly laughs. However, the floor seating was ridiculously squished together. There was no personal space to be had. Mix that with the show starting over 30 minutes late and it made for a very uncomfortable couple hours.

Jim Gaffigan's performance and our experience at UBC SC

by PK Kid on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

The venue is difficult to get to due to lack of public transit and bottlenecks for car to get through the limited routes to UBC and very long waits for the main traffic light (main problem) at UBC. Getting out of the Sports Centre parkade was a nightmare....it took 40 minutes just to get out but it appears there was no co-ordination of the exit which meant that one section of the parkade was last to empty after all other had. It was difficult for us to catch many of Gaffigan's jokes because he spoke too quickly and modulated his voice and dropped its volume which made it difficult to follow. Part of the problem was likely the sound system as people directly in front of him seemed to be laughing alot more than those on the sides of the area. Overall 3 on a scale of 10 for both the performance and venue.

Jim Gaffigan 100 laughs per hour

by Fredriko on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

Gaffigan was outrageously hilarious. No pauses in the laughs and without a single curse word.

    Sloppy comic gives solid 30

by GrumpyCanuck on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

First 30 was very funny, last half seemed more like a work in progress. Came on stage with food stains on his shirt. Probably from a hot pocket.

    Great Show

by Nobaddays68 on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

I love Jim's deprecating humour! I see why he called it "Dark Pale". Part of his show was talking about death and funerals. It was dark but funny!

    Amazing show - traffic sucked

by Hissyfit on 2023-01-18UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

Traffic to ubc was awful for all therefore we were all late. Thankfully the show started late. Great instructions and tip for parking but the venue is too bottlenecked with only one entrance in and one to the floor seating. I would see Jim again for sure, but maybe not at that venue until ubc gets the sky train !
