About

NEEDTOBREATHE have spent over two decades developing a unique sound that blends elements of rock, country and Christian music. The South Carolina band was formed in 1998 by brothers Bear and Bo Rinehart. They expanded the outfit into a quartet and released a string of independent projects before debuting their first major label effort, Daylight, in 2006. NEEDTOBREATHE’s sophomore album The Heat (2007) marked the group’s first placement on the Billboard 200 and earned the group their first No. 1 on the Christian Airplay chart with the single, “Washed by the Water.” Their 2009 follow-up The Outsiders elevated the band, reaching gold certification from the RIAA, while 2011’s The Reckoning marked more crossover success after notching their first No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums chart. With 2014’s Rivers in the Wasteland, NEEDTOBREATHE broke into the Hot 100 thanks to the Gavin DeGraw collaborative song “Brother.” The single “Multiplied” led to the band’s first Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song. NEEDTOBREATHE reached a career peak at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 2016’s Hard Love. In 2020, the group announced the departure of Bo Rinehart and have since released three studio albums as a quintet with Bear, Seth Bolt, Josh Lovelace, Randall Harris and Tyler Burkum.

    Couldn't ask for more!!

by datagant on 2017-05-23Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

NEEDTOBREATHE Rocked it!! I loved every song they played! And everything they played and sang was giving 110%. Even when Bears voice started to go near the end he kept going. And as a result we got the special treat of hearing Seth, Bo and even Josh sing for us. I love these guys and everything they stand for!

Need to Breathe, Need to Turn It Down

by kj151 on 2017-05-21Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

The bands were great - Colony House was a nice surprise, Need to Breathe was as good as expected. The sound for N2B was way, way too loud though, to the point where it was hard to enjoy it. Many people in our area were covering their ears. Light show may have been better in a larger venue.

    Needtobreathe / Colony House / May 2017

by BCconcertguy on 2017-05-20Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Saw another concert this good once but that was back in 1979. This was by far the best overall performance I've seen since. These two bands worked so hard on the night. Really feel like I got my money's worth (and more). Songs were great, each carried a great message/story. Musicianship was the best I've seen in years. Would make a strong effort to see either of these two bands again.

Great show, as always. Needbreathe always puts on a great show, even if they don't sing my favourite song, Haley.

Could have easily been a five star concert

by LMTEAL on 2016-11-10Agganis Arena - Boston

A great lineup. Needtobreathe were stellar in the headlining spot. Tragically, the sound in this venue was terrible. Excessively loud. I spent time during the warmup artists trying to find a spot in the building where I could take in the concert with out experiencing physical pain in my ears. Failing that - for the first time in my life - I resigned myself to taking in a concert with earplugs. All that said, Needtobreathe are truly one of THE great live bands out there. The new songs sounded great live, and the setlist managed to promote the new, while honoring the old.

    NeedToBreathe was amazing

by sweetonion on 2014-06-23The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

They really rocked it out. I didn't realize they were SUCH a rock band. When I listen to their music I find it very easy to listen to. It was really loud but they were really good. It was such an intimate hall that I would have loved more intimate moments like them just sitting on bar stools and playing (like they did on Canada AM that morning). It was a wonderful night. They have a really, really good sound.

great. just a warning, they usually do a part at the show where they sing acoustic, and even with no mics. so make sure everyone and their mother is quiet and/or singing along or else theyll stop singing. and for my case they just ended the show completely. dont let other stupid stupids ruin it for you.

    Excellent show, as always!!!!

    by steff56822 on 2013-05-06Sound Academy - Toronto

This was my third time seeing NEEDTOBREATHE and I have to say - they never disappoint! The setlist was perfect - they introduced a couple of new songs (which sounded amazing!), but still played everyone's favourites. They also played a few covers, which were excellent! Bear's voice was flawless, and the entire band showed a range of instrument ability and skill that had everyone in the audience impressed. If you are looking for a high energy, fun and entertaining show, I would highly recommend seeing NEEDTOBREATHE!

    Needtobreathe doesn't disappoint!!!!

    by Sunny41 on 2013-05-06Sound Academy - Toronto

Have been waiting for several years to see Needtobreathe live, so my expectations were high. I can honestly say that they were everything I expected and more. Bear pours his heart out on that stage, Bo looks like he's having the time of his life, and Seth is solid. The music is great and non stop. They are an amazing live act, everyone there had a great time, and I loved it!!!!!!!

    They sound even better live

    by Josh1 on 2013-05-06Sound Academy - Toronto

One of the best concerts I have been to and I have seen many. They sound and perform better than many bigger more famous bands.

    Both bands were amazing!

by Slacey on 2013-05-06Sound Academy - Toronto

Need to breathe blew us away with their energy and the songs were so well done. They added tons of energy to the songs but were able to keep them recognizable. Awesome stage presence. The opening act was wicked! Had never heard of them and they were a tight act. Drew Holcomb and the Neighbours got my attention for sure! Awesome awesome awesome. Blew away my expectations.

    Best Live Show!

by jamielynn on 2010-12-08Showbox SODO - Seattle

I've seen these guys live in Seattle a few times now and this was the best show I've been to! The crowd was really into it and the band seemed to feed off their energy. If you have a chance to catch these guys live, I highly recommend it - they are so much better live than recorded. And they are amazing musicians who seem to genuinely love what they do.
