About

Founded in Melbourne, Australia in 1983, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are one of the most critically acclaimed post-punk bands of the last 30 years. Following the end of their previous group, the Birthday Party, singer-songwriter Cave and drummer Mick Harvey began the Bad Seeds. Initially joined by Barry Adamson on bass and Blixa Bargeld on guitar, the band has seen a number of personnel changes over the years with the one constant being the creative force of Cave himself.
Exploring the themes of love and religion, the band’s debut album, From Her to Eternity, was released in 1984. Featuring a cover of Elvis Presley’s classic, “In the Ghetto,” presented in the band’s inimitable style, the record showcased the deep impact of Cave’s baritone voice. Quickly following second album, The Firstborn is Dead, third release Kicking Against the Pricks saw the band first find fame in the UK and Ireland. Critics also began to sit up and take notice, with Cave’s prose-like approach to songwriting bringing welcome comparisons with Leonard Cohen. This narrative style was seen again on 1986’s Your Funeral…My Trial, before the beginning of a two year break from recording for the band.
Four more albums were released in the early ‘90s in addition to the band making a range of high-profile US festival appearances. The album Murder Ballads, released in 1996, became a critical success for the Bad Seeds and saw songwriter Cave explore two of his favorite themes: death and violence. The album featured vocals from Kylie Minogue on the single, “Where the Wild Roses Grow,” and the success of the song helped make Murder Ballads the band’s best -selling album so far. 1998 saw the release of No More Shall We Part, with further albums Nocturama and Abbatoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus being released in the early ‘00s.
Following a number of sell out tour dates in 2005 and 2006, Nick Cave’s musical achievements and creative contribution saw him inducted into Australia’s ARIA Hall of Fame. Not for the first time in his career, Cave then moved from music to movies, writing both the screenplay and soundtrack for John Hillcoat’s 2012 film, Lawless. Early 2013 saw the release of Push the Sky Away; the band’s first output in nearly five years, it was widely acclaimed by fans and critics alike.

A very special evening. Nick Cave at his best!

by mojave3 on 2014-08-05Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Fabulous concert. Had a great seat right at the front although I didn't sit in it for very long! Opening act Nicole Atkins got things started off very well. Her sound, look and style reminds me very much of a certain "white witch" which is not a bad thing at all. Nick Cave gave everything in his incredible performance which was near 2hrs of time stopped in his incredible world of storytelling, performance and powerful music. Numerous times Nick went right out in the crowd and I had to help hold him up a number of times as well as his mic cord! I was glad to be the last person he shook hands with at the end of his set and thoroughly enjoyed the entire set. The show at Massey Hall last year was excellent, this one even better. I have seen Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds back in the 90's and he was certainly good then. This show is one of the best I have had the opportunity to see. A rare treat and if he comes back to this area I will be there in an instant and highly recommend that you do too!

They are amazing. Problem: people from other areas and seats were allowed to come and stand up near the stage. Not fair to the ones that bought 200 $ tickets in front and either be forced to stand up or see nothing

Far exceeding my expections. Wonder and amazement. I just keep asking myself " what's going to happen next " Amazing energy for the second final show of the tour. Each moment was filled with awe. Nick brought a life to the newest album "Push the Sky Away" that I never new existed.

    A Man Possessed!!!!

by dmsj65 on 2014-08-03Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

This was my 4th time seeing NC & TBS and this night they were determined to take over our souls. As always, Nick intensely stalks the stage, looking for his next soul to save with the gospel of St. Nick. The band was super tight and provide Nick the platform for his awesome storytelling and looked like they were really enjoying themselves. This should have been a 5 out of 5 (actually 6 out of 5!!!!) but not sure what was wrong with the soundman that it needed to be 12 out of 10 on the volume. If not for Nick's performance, we were ready to leave for the lobby to listen to the show. Way too loud for the Sony Centre with great acoustics and the show would have been perfect if a little less on the volume. Had to put my earbuds in to kill some of the sound. Otherwise, Nick is a must see and do not miss him when he comes to town.

He treated us like second class fans

    by Shaun1333 on 2014-07-06Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

We had seats on the balcony and all the time, Nick Cave was performing for the people directly in front of the stage. So nobody on higher level seats could see him. People were either standing up trying to see something or complaining about not being able to see anything. After a while we just gave up trying and sat looking at stage without seeing the lead singer. I could have sat at home, listening to my favorite tracks and losing absolutely nothing.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds=absolutely breathtaking!

by GeorgeTrolesberg on 2014-07-05Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

Saw Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds at the Northern Jubliee Auditorium last Saturday and was absolutely astounded! He and the band put on such an incredible performance and the way he handled the crowd was truly astonishing. Had I known how incredible this show would be, I would have gotten tickets to Calgary as well but instead opted to get tickets for his show in Toronto at the end of the tour. Worst opening act OF ALL TIME! It's not that the guy didn't have talent but he should have been doing kids' birthday parties. I went out to smoke cigarettes halfway through his embarassing performance.

We had a great time seeing one of our favorites. The show was awesome, the sound was great' and I actually really enjoyed the Jubilee over the Saddledome for this kind of rock show because of the great sound this venue has.

    Nick Cave was awe inspiring!

    by 1Montrealer on 2014-07-04Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

From the moment Nick Cave and his band hit the stage, it was magic, manic magic but total magic. The man is multitalented and has the energy of five performers. He inhabits the venue, literally, launching himself into the audience periodically, never missing a beat and perching on the back of the seats. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are perfectly in tune with each other. The range of songs he performed was perfect, except too soon it was over, leaving us feeling like we will never be the same again, not until he returns. A night never to be forgotten.

    Incredible Performance

    by Spike34 on 2014-07-04Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

The best show I have ever seen and I've seen a lot! Don't waste your money on VIP seats as you only get mobbed by the crowd storming the stage. No regrets, just won't do it again.

    Entertaining, extreme audience engaging

    by cherry110 on 2014-07-04Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Music is awesome and performance is entertaining and engaging! We were only able to afford the cheapest ticket - last 3 rows of the balcony level. When we got there. Our seats got upgraded by Mr. Cave to the Orchestra level 10 row. That was amazing... and Mr. Cave came out from stage all the way to where we were as well.
