Weller shows great musicianship and versatility!

by Andre1410 on 2015-06-18The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

really excellent show with a good mix of old and new songs, different styles from various eras and distinct phases in the career of this "Great" artist! Saturn Patterns is a great album that was very well represented throughout the show. Overall the Modfather at his best....

    lucky

by JimmiSteele on 2015-06-18The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

One of those occasions when being more focused on British music than American pays off.... seeing a world class artist at his creative peak after 35+ years of recording, with a red hot band, in a fantastic small venue in Toronto instead of a football stadium in Europe. Weller was in great voice and spirits, the band was super tight but letting her rip, and the audience was pumped. Great variety of song selection spanning the decades, high energy, big smile on everyone's faces all night long and left feeling very fortunate to have been there.

    Paul Weller is so incredible!!

by Mahline on 2015-06-18The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

He played from 830 with 3 encores. So many different guitars and it is like there is not a drop of effort. Never been to The Danforth Music hall before, great venue. clean spacious. I loved it.

    Paul Weller a mixed bag

by DaveWaller82 on 2015-06-18The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Great show!! He was on his game. Playlist could of included more hits or rare songs for the fans. Less encores more music. Still a great show and left us all wanting more. More Jam, more Style more Paul.

Paul Weller - eternally young !!

by 70sGIRL on 2015-06-18The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Paul sang mostly his great new stuff interdispersed with some of his much loved oldies. I enjoyed every minute of the show, except being blinded by the migraine inducing stage lights (I put my sunglasses on to watch), I would have loved to have heard Wild Wood and Going Underground - but these were not part of the set. He did sing You Do Something To Me and Town Called Malice was his final song at third encore (I felt sad for those that left before then to miss the traffic). I've been to see a few bands from the 70's/ 80's and it's always a risk that they've 'lost it' somewhere along the way. Paul Weller has lost non of his talent, close your eyes and you'd be back in the 70's / 80's - still the same, boy can this guy sing, he can still belt them out and OMG his ballads ... to me he sings these like no one else on earth.

    Weller in excellent form

by Pacemaker on 2015-06-18The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Toronto's Danforth Music Hall Show was an excellent concert of new material from Saturn's Pattern, a couple from Sonic Kicks, one Style Council song, the oldie-but-goodie "Changing Man" and "Town Called Malice" for an encore. I do wish Mr. Weller would play more of his back catalogue at shows, because it's great music! He disavows his earlier stages of musical evolution for some reason. The reality is, I could watch him play for 5 hours, so why doesn't he just play all of it?!?!? =)

    Good, But not Great

by yyzalt on 2012-06-23Sound Academy - Toronto

Well if concert value was measured strictly in number of songs, this would be a standout: Paul and the boys pretty much played two concerts. Full band, acoustic, and then some rousing oldies. The new album, ubnfortunately, came across quite poorly in the first set. Sound mix didn't appear bad per se, but all in all it was a bit muddled musically. Very little interest, no acknowledgment from Paul to the crowd - let alone any banter. The room had an aura of "Well, he's a legend so I guess this has to be great" about it. The acoustic set, interestingly, was far more integrated musically. And then once he finished playing the new album (song by song), the "third" set was where the night finally picked up. It wasn't just the better variety of songs, but even the band seemed to now have more itnerest in what they were doing. And yes, he threw in a few Jam songs to get the crowd well into it. So a very mediocre slow burn to start, but thoroughly picked up. I'd say this is a classic example where cutting 30 minutes would have made for a better show.

    The modest!

by Tanzantan on 2012-06-12Sound Academy - Toronto

Mr. Paul's one of my favorites. A proper bloke and musician. It's bad he doesn't come more often, but then all the wait is rewarded.

    Weller is a genius !

    by Stan69 on 2012-06-12Sound Academy - Toronto

The audience were clearly Weller die hards who hadn't heard much from him in while, no surprise since he hadn't been to Toronto for twelve years, but still surprised me to hear people in the queue to get in discussing The Style Council and The Jam as if it were yesterday. No surprise then that the concert got off to a slowish start with all the tracks from the new album and when Paul announced "side two" as if he was turning over the vinyl it all seemed a bit stale. The new album is certainly not a Weller classic but the new album was quickly forgotten when Paul kicked off an acoustic set with "The Butterfly Collector" with the entire band on acoustic guitars. Brilliant ! The set spiralled skyward from there-on, we got all the classics, demonstrating Weller's superbly rich and very British songwriting, the social commentary, the love songs and the out and out punk driven rock, fantastic !

    Paul is still rocking

by Handyandy on 2012-06-12Sound Academy - Toronto

Well last time I saw Paul was at Massey Hall about 15 years ago- If I were to choose, I would say the last concert was better . I enjoyed the acoustic and the elecric sets but I didn't get blown away with the new Sonic Kicks album. He seemed to just rifle through them but didn't seem to be trying to sell the new stuff. Not that I don't go way back but I still would expect a little more soul in his presentations- He did seem to warm up , and eventaually let it all out as he does so well. I was just a little underwelmed-

    Pure Class

by dfcson on 2012-05-24Sound Academy - Toronto

Weller continues to shine. It was a brave move seeing him do the entire new album Sonik Kicks beginning to end as the first set, and only someone of his stature could pull off such a ballsy move. Considering this was only one of three dates in north america, I hope fans reveled in it. I still maintain the Sound Academy is the worst venue in the city and I've sworn off it; only Weller could get me to trek out to this dismal desolate shoebox.

    Weller in NYC

by Fowlski on 2010-11-09Best Buy Theater - New York City

Another great Weller gig. Close to two hours of mixing some Jam and Style Council classic tracks with older songs from his solo career and some of the new Wake up the Nation tunes. A great night out in NYC and worth the trip from Canada. Weller was and always has been a class act, venue was great for sight lines and the crowd were there to have fun. Good night out..!

PW was in control as always..a nice tight set...they all appeared to be enjoying it. He lets them have their moment to shine. Best Buy theatre in NYC is a great place to see a band.
