About

WICKED is a Tony-winning sensation that has been defying gravity and delighting Broadway audiences since 2003. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the fantastical prequel to The Wizard of Oz was nominated for 10 Tony Awards after it opened at the Gershwin Theatre in New York City, and won three, including Best Actress for Idina Menzel, who played the original Elphaba. The musical’s first national tour opened in 2005 and ever since, WICKED’s touring production has criss-crossed North America offering theatergoers one short day in the Emerald City filled with magic, music and the ”untold true story of the Witches of Oz.” The second national tour — known as the “Munchkinland Tour” — has been an open-ended production since 2009 and now stars Olivia Valli as Elphaba and Celia Hottenstein as Glinda.

    Wicked was Wicked

by Grandma33 on 2014-08-26Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

It started off a little slow, but when it got going, it was fantastic. A little bit of humor, and great songs made the time fly by. Two lead singers had great voices. It was really cool to find out exactly what happened to the witch after the house fell on her in Oz. I loved it.

by SusyTops on 2014-08-26Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

The enthusiastic performance of all the characters made this experience awesome. Their joyous singing accompanied by their skillful actions communicated a distinct time in history. Hopefully we can learn the full meaning of what was being communicated to us and improve our lives because of this experience.

    wicked was amazing!

by gorette on 2014-08-26Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

I really think so far this was the best musical theatre production I have seen. The story itself was interesting and unknown to me, thus my interest in the entire play was sharp throughout. I loved the set ,amazing, the lighting and special effects with the dragon, wheelchair, broom , the bubble, etc. were first class. Costumes and use of colour was a treat to the eye, and the music was perfect for this production. Voices and orchestra were top notch. Overall a most enjoyable time! I forgot to mention the great dancing ensemble and wonderful cast!!!

    wicked

by spite on 2014-08-26Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

The content was too weak, not enough of a story line, mainly a childrens show. I paid way too much for this show, over $100. per seat.

    Wicked was wicked!!

by kruzcris on 2014-08-26Centennial Concert Hall - Winnipeg

It was truly an amazing show. I have seen musicals in New York and it is quite comparable. The production was awesome... from the set changes to the the elaborate costumes, I loved every minute! And who could forget the cast? They were so incredibly talented. I could say so much about each lead, but Elphaba and Glinda stood out the most. Glinda was both a great singer and actress. Going in I didn't know that her character portrayed a "valley girl" type (which is different than the Glinda I know from Wizard of Oz). She was so funny through out the musical. Our specific performance included the under study for Elphaba and there was no way you would have even known she was an under study. She too had a terrific voice. Both Elphaba and Glinda did an outstanding job! I went in only knowing one song and now I've got the entire soundtrack on my music player. I highly recommend the show to all age groups. If you really are a broadway fan, this is one to see.
