About

As the man behind some of Lady Gaga’s biggest hits and a featured artist on over 35 Billboard Hot 100 singles, Senegalese-raised R&B singer/producer Akon is one of the most ubiquitous – and unique – artists in contemporary hip hop. With 2013 the release of “Angel,” the David Guetta-produced lead single from his upcoming fourth studio album Stadium, Akon scored another hit and signaled a turn towards an increasingly dance-oriented sound. “Angel” follows the success of 2009’s chart-topping Freedom, which added to his already-impressive solo career with hits like “Right Now (Na Na Na)” and “I’m So Paid (feat. Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy).” Splitting time between New Jersey and Senegal as a child, Akon developed a unique musical sensibility inspired by West African musical traditions East Coast hip hop. A singer and multi-instrumentalist, he attracted the attention of label execs in 2003 with “Lonely,” which would go on to be a No. 1 single from his 2004 debut Trouble. 2006 follow-up Konvicted proved even more successful, earning Akon several Grammy nominations and his first No. 1 on the Hot 100 with “I Wanna Love You (feat. Snoop Dogg).” Ticket buyers rave about Akon’s positive energy and special guest-filled live concerts, while looking forward to the upcoming release of his fourth studio album Stadium.

    Akon needs better back-up

by T9Word on 2009-10-31Brandt Centre - Evraz Place - Regina

Lets start by saying that Akon himself was quite a good performer. He really knew how to captivate the audience, his show plan was well thought out and clever and his songs are very good to dance and party to. Unfortunately his friends definitely need to get their acts together. I'm sorry Karl Wolf you need to learn how to sing rather than scream "Hey Hey Hey!!!" plus do more than two songs. Danny Fernandes took it up slightly with the back-up dancers, but lets face it, anyone could've done those moves. The overall worst part of the concert was the extreme loss of flow. The opening acts would come one do about 5 numbers, leave and then there'd be a twenty minute intermission. This happened twice as well. Next time you come Akon, we need to see a better job of wrapping everything together.

what a mess of a show

by Anonymous on 2009-10-31Brandt Centre - Evraz Place - Regina

where to start... the line up was originally Akon, Pitbull and Girlicious and ended up being the above. The concert was only half sold out, and i have to think that it was due to the complete change in lineup. The stage show was non-existent.. .i actually could compare it to seeing MC Hammer at the city fair this summer, only MC Hammer had back up dancers. This show could've easily belonged in a club setting. There were no full versions of any songs sung... and i use the term sung loosely since the lip-synching was painfully obvious for the first half of the show. This show was only made tolerable by the fun group of people I was with. Bottom line, the show was extremely poor and disappointing, especially for the price. I go to a tonne of concerts within a variety of genres and this was definitely one of the biggest wastes of my hard earned cash ever.

It started out awful, akon ended on a decent note

by luvnlyf on 2009-10-31Brandt Centre - Evraz Place - Regina

My best friend and I took our oldest children to the concert, originally purchasing our tickets because it was going to be Akon as well as Pitbull. When we found out Pitbull, and Girliscious weren't coming we questioned if we would still go. Karl Wolf's stage presence is awful, vocals sucked, and the interaction with the crowd was not there at all. We had seen Karl Wolf and Danny Fernandez this summer at the eventplex and nothing has changed. Danny has better vocal, but overall everyone was still sitting in there seats while he was on. The whole set up of the stage with lighting as such wasn't very grand considering how big Akon is. When the artists went to the corner of the stage you couldn't see them because no lights followed. Akon had great interaction, and a great voice, he had the crowd standing. After Pitbull was out of the lineup, Akon was the only reason people were there.

    Akon Westman place Brandon

by KayJ on 2009-10-30Westman Place (Brandon Keystone Centre) - Brandon

The performance's were good ,there was no question about that! I love all the artist, especially Akon! He did an awesome job. Brandon it's self was down right sad, I was embarrassing to be there, the amount of people who showed up was sad. I sure would not blame him if he never came back. The set up was completely stupid. Pay $80 dollars to get shoved around and glared at cuz you actually know the music other then what is playing on the radio. I ended up leaving befor it was even over!!! I love Akon would go see him again for sure. Will never go see another concert in Brandon!!! You should be ashamed!

    Akon himself was great

by blondie1 on 2009-08-05Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

Akon was great, but the 1 hour wait outside and 3 hour wait inside to see him was very frustrating. While waiting inside for 3 hours for Akon who we came to see, we had to watch a number of other local performers who did not interest us at all. This would have been a 5 star event if Akon started by 10pm.

poor akon!!! there's talent in there somewhere...

by TygrLili on 2009-07-29General Motors Place - Vancouver

Ok, I love Akon and his songs are awesome but what happened to this concert??? First of all, where did all the fans dissapear to?? We were stoked to see him and then we ended up with great seats because of the entire stage set up creating more intimacy for the smaller audience, but where was the excitement in the show? Watching him being carried back and forth on some bouncer's shoulders for an hour?? Watching him take off into the air off the stage and taking out two of his fans flat on their faces??? Or how about not showing up at the afterparty while a jam packed vip room waited till closing time...? It was pretty sad, I must say... sorry Akon, I do kinda still love ya though!!!!

    AKON BLEW MY EXPECTATIONS

Incredible concert. Loved how off the hook he was ex. jumping into the crowd, and how he linked his songs together with talking. AMAZING PERFORMER!

    Akon ......smaller venue

by Concertmom on 2009-07-27General Motors Place - Vancouver

Danny Fernandez and Akon were good....the other acts...who ever they were ....painful waiting for the headliners....the stage crew seemed amateur...not very professional...paid a lot of cash to see these boys...was not one of the lucky ones that bought up the fire sale tickets....would have been better in a smaller venue without the chach and all ALL the warmup acts...at times I felt like I was at a high school talent show...

    Amazing!

by sushilicious on 2009-07-25General Motors Place - Vancouver

The show was just awsome even though my phone is broken from losing it in the crowd ! The show was mind blowing! akon sounds amazing live! I was only disappointed because my floor seats got relocated to section 115 row 22 so it was father then i thought it was going to be. But when i had floor seats i expected to at least get the first 5 rows in section 115 or floor seats like i originally had! but by far one of the best concerts i have been too!!!
