  • Frankly,Frankenstein...

I've not been to many theater performances but Frankenstein was, by far, the best I've seen. The mix of ballet, modern dance, classical and industrial music was awesome. The set design(usage of the screens and lighting) were beautiful and innovative. The story line sub-titles were helpful but a little distracting. I was trying to read the words and watch the performers at the same time...not an easy feat. The best experience I've had, so far, at the ballet.

This was the second ballet that I attended. I bought the tickets for my wife’s birthday as I thought she would enjoy it. I was quite surprised as to how much I ended up enjoying it as well! Recommended it highly to family and friends.

  • Modern ballet that finally makes sense to a classical fan

by Verley on 2019-11-08Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

The music was quite loud at times. The superscript was a neat idea so you could get an idea of what was happening but there was one text that was up for so short a time that I could only read a third of the first line before it disappeared. The monster’s costume was amazing and his movements were truly mesmerizing when he first came to life. This ballet is an interesting mix of modern dance and classic movements. I usually have a hard time watching or understanding modern dance hoping the intermission comes quickly but this ballet with its storyline made it quite engaging so that I was pleasantly surprised when the intermission curtain came down. Well done.

I really enjoyed this new ballet. I think it still needs some work - especially in the Second Act - but it is a great evening out. The moment when the monster comes alive is nothing short of breathtaking and will stay with me for a long time. I look forward to seeing it again as it grows and completely comes together. Bravo to Alberta Ballet for being cutting edge and so exciting!
