Best ballet ever!!! I would recommend this one to anyone who loves the tragically hip
Simply amazing and the memories that come back with both the music and the movement was Heartwarming and profound.
All of Us - Alberta Ballet performance: although amazingly performed by the dancers, with such energy and athleticism and beauty and conscious connection to music through movement, that was breathtaking and soul-searing, as well as the perfectly inspired and creatively designed costumes and very well designed set, I was unprepared for the theme of exceptionally well portrayed graphic violence through dance. I have witnessed beauty, pain, sorrow, distress, joy, anger, heartbreak and some violent portrayals in dance, but I was left cold at the relentless atrocity of this perfectly performed/portrayed violent onslaught. Although the mood was lightened and also well performed at the closing of the performance, I was dismayed by not having been better prepared for the theme of the performance. Perhaps I was ignorant, but I would have come more steeled for such a dissonant (at least for me) use of beauty to portray such ugliness....I just would have liked to have a better idea of what I was going to see.
An amazing visual work. Wasn't anticipating the post apocalyptic story line but it works so well. Dancing was technically demanding and so well done. The music shifts between the harder hip chords and the softer ballads. Gordon Downie's unique voice in the post bomb world was the perfect pairing with a night of great dance. Costumes and lighting all added to the performance. I really need to go again to see all I missed in the first performance. Having the remaining Hip band members there for the opening performance just added to the evening.
‘All of Us’ was a good show with stellar dancers and wonderful costumes and set. My issue was the story was dull, and didn’t fit with the music. I suppose I was expecting music that enriched the Tragically Hip and the Tragically Hip music would fold better in the story. You could have used ANY music for that show. It seemed they only used their music to boost sales. It was not appropriate, in my opinion, to use Hip music as it Didn’t seem to... match, I guess.
Was hyped up that there was going to be a show with Hip music, show and atmosphere in theatre was of bewilderment and lost, to understand what was going on you had to read the scene synopsis, even then bizarre storyline
This ballet is new, innovative, mesmerizing and exquisite. The Tragically Hip's songs were perfectly chosen to accompany the story line (or maybe it was the other way around....no matter).Great if you are a Hip fan, but even if you are not, go for the dancing. I highly recommend that you see this show if you have a chance.
