Anaheim Ducks History

What began as a 1992 Disney movie turned into a professional hockey team as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim played their first official season in the NHL in 1993. With the emergence of Paul Kariya in late 1994, Anaheim had its first bona fide superstar.

In 1996, Teemu Selänne arrived via trade, and alongside Kariya helped lead the franchise to its first playoffs appearance in 1997. The Ducks reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2003, where they lost to the New Jersey Devils. Forever etched in Mighty Ducks lore was the knock out delivered upon Kariya by the Devils' Scott Stevens in game six. Kariya would make a hero's return in that game, emerging from the locker room to score and lead the team to victory. Netminder Jean-Sébastien Giguère won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs, becoming the fifth player to win the trophy as a member of the losing team.

Disney sold the franchise to Henry and Susan Samueli in 2005, and the team dropped the "Mighty" from their moniker. With star players on the roster, including future Hall of Fame defensemen Chris Pronger and Scott Nidermayer, the Ducks finished the 2007 season as Stanley Cup Champions, defeating the Ottawa Senators in five games. With Rob Niedermayer also on the roster, the Niedermayers became the first set of brothers to win the Stanley Cup together since the 1980s. The Ducks have been in the playoffs a total of 14 times in their 29 seasons.

    Ducks vs Canucks

sat in section 436, behind the rail. The rail blocked the view, had to lean forward to see over the rail to watch the game.

    Anaheim is Awesome

    by Brain9924 on 2010-04-04Honda Center - Anaheim

The fans in Anaheim are wonderful. We arrived on a shuttle bus (seating for 25?) with 32 Canucks fans and 1 Duck fan. He was great about and took group photos on us on multiple cameras. We got to the game and was immediately told by one of the ushers that we could go to ice level for the pre game warm up and she led us to the Canucks bench area, where we stood behind thjeir bench for the whole warm up, taking photos and everything. It was an awesome event and atmosphere. Completely different than the night before in LA.

    Ducks VS Habs game

    by MTLFAN010 on 2010-03-11Honda Center - Anaheim

The hockey game was great. Mtl came back to win in the shootout, The only thing strange was that the Honda Center does not have an escalator to get to the hight floors in the building, you have to find an elevator or take the stairs.

    A Great Game

by solojones on 2009-12-10Honda Center - Anaheim

Thought it was a bit of a dud at the end of the first period as the Ducks were down 3 nothing but come the second period they fought back. Scored the game tieing goal with 1 minute left in play. Scored the game winning goal with 45 seconds left in overtime. There was a fight, great atmosphere, and a great result!!

Honda Centre - Ducks vs Sharks

by EdmHockeyFan on 2009-11-23Honda Center - Anaheim

Great game. Coming from Canada it was great to see a U.S. hockey game with U.S. fans. It was also fun to watch the interaction between the rival fans (being as San Jose had a contingent of fans come down to cheer on their team). The game was exciting and San Jose won 3-2.

    Anaheim vs. Pittsburgh was awesome

by Barkley on 2009-11-04Honda Center - Anaheim

I had an opportunity to attend an NHL game with the Anaheim Ducks vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins. The crowds were friendly and the atmosphere was charged. I would definitely do it again, because it was easy, and picking up the tickets at "will call" was a breeze. I definitely would advise others to take it in when they can....fantastic experience.

First Ticketmaster did a great job providing us with exactly the seats we were looking for. They were received before our trip to California in lots of time. The Honda Center is a beautiful facility with excellent customer service. All in all we had a great time except for the score of our hometown team's loss!

    Ducks vs canucks

by georgchef on 2009-09-18Honda Center - Anaheim

The hockey tickets we purchased over the phone from our home in Canada, it is our honeymoon and we both love our Vancouver Canucks hockey, so seeing them in action close to our honeymoon destination in San Diego with the help of ticket master was fantastic.
