Anaheim Ducks History

What began as a 1992 Disney movie turned into a professional hockey team as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim played their first official season in the NHL in 1993. With the emergence of Paul Kariya in late 1994, Anaheim had its first bona fide superstar.

In 1996, Teemu Selänne arrived via trade, and alongside Kariya helped lead the franchise to its first playoffs appearance in 1997. The Ducks reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2003, where they lost to the New Jersey Devils. Forever etched in Mighty Ducks lore was the knockout delivered upon Kariya by the Devils' Scott Stevens in game six. Kariya would make a hero's return in that game, emerging from the locker room to score and lead the team to victory. Netminder Jean-Sébastien Giguère won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs, becoming the fifth player to win the trophy as a member of the losing team.

Disney sold the franchise to Henry and Susan Samueli in 2005, and the team dropped the "Mighty" from their moniker. With star players on the roster, including future Hall of Fame defensemen Chris Pronger and Scott Niedermayer, the Ducks finished the 2007 season as Stanley Cup Champions, defeating the Ottawa Senators in five games. With Rob Niedermayer also on the roster, the Niedermayers became the first set of brothers to win the Stanley Cup together since the 1980s.

$45 tickets in Anaheim - US Ticketmaster doesn't select your tickets for you online. You can select your ticket. you get free drink and hotdog, free shirt & glowing foam thing. Plus they do a great show. Same tickets in Vancouver you get stuck with the lame seats ticket master selects for you. (booked more days later for a friend and got better seats) You pay $145 and get jack.

  • Honda Center is an awesome place to watch hockey!

    by SaskGirl2 on 2013-01-30Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

The Honda Center is an amazing top notch classy facility. We enjoyed the food, the view from our club seats and the friendliness of all that employees/staff that were working. It was very easy to find parking (although parking was a little pricy @ $15!) The hockey game was great - amazing how different NHL hockey is live than on TV.

  • Good game

by FanofHockey on 2012-02-08Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

The game was a good one. Not often do you see it go to a shot out and then more than three shooters per team. Excellent venue, just too bad the Ducks won. Yes a Flames fan!

  • Anaheim experience was great!

by NuckfaninDuckland on 2012-01-09Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

The Ducks have a very well run operation, the parking & traffic coming and going from the game was SO much better then what we have at GM place / Rogers arena. The assistance of the local police in traffic control made for a very pleasant event with quick arrival and quick exit times. Finding a place to park was easy as well, right across the street from the entrance and only $15.00!! Inside the excellent experience continued, no line ups for any concessions, washrooms were actually clean & tidy, and to top it all off the majority of the sellout crowd was Canucks fans! Awesome time and if all Ducks home games are like this the Canucks should take notice and make some changes here at home.

The only thing that wasn't done well was knowing when the doors opened. Couldn't find it on the arena website, the Anaheim Ducks website or Ticketmaster.

  • After the game

by oldbeast on 2011-11-17Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

We travelled to LA to watch our Canucks play the Kings and the Ducks. We enjoyed both arenas, found everyone pleasant, even wearing our jerseys. The food and beverages were good also. The only problem was leaving the Honda Center, there were not enough cabs to take all the fans back to their hotels, we waiting over 1 hour and even then, there were still lots of people waiting for cabs. Maybe Honda Centre should see how many "visiting" jerseys are in the stands and make appropriate plans for all to get home safely.

  • Soooo much fun

    by hedder40 on 2011-11-15Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the most fun times I've had at a hockey game. Very organized and for all the traffic that needed to get out of there after the game it was amazingly quick, nothing like around Rogers Arena in Vancouver. The arena was a little hard to find for us out of towners, could use some better signage but all in all it was a wonderful experience and would do it again in a heartbeat.

  • Ducks vs Canucks

    by Wally180 on 2011-11-14Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

It was my first NHL game and it was exciting to watch.

  • Anaheim Ducks vs. Vancouver Canucks

    by foodie21 on 2011-10-02Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 3 out of 5

The game itself was fantastic...but the lack of explanation of the Miller Lite and Family Pepsi deals had us running around the Honda Center and missing half of the first period.
