Bursting onto the scene with the playful party single "Barbie Girl," Aqua catapulted to superstardom in 1997. In 2011, The Danish-Norwegian foursome returned to the studio to record Megalomania, their first new album in over ten years. After pursuing different avenues in the entertainment industry, band frontwoman Lene was discovered while working as a television host by René Dif, a Norwegian DJ with a ton of industry experience. Recognizing her energy and talent for what it was, he immediately recruited her for the band he'd just recently formed with two friends. It was 1994, and Aqua was now complete. A mere two years later, they were signed to Universal Music Denmark and released their first single, "Roses are Red."
"Aqua Diary," a 1998 documentary, captured the spirit of the band's live act. Culled from concert footage shot during their Aquarium tour, the documentary offers fans a glimpse of the energy Aqua is capable of onstage. During one part of the film, Lene teases ticket holders while strutting across the stage, striking a riot girl appearance amidst the strobes and smoke of a hip, club atmosphere. Megalomania came as a surprise to fans, who were expecting a throwback to the band's bubblegum days. What they got instead were tunes like "Kill Myself" and "Playmate to Jesus," songs with unexpected thematic twists. The band's greatest hits album is due for release in 2014.
Of course, the band will always be known for their mega smash, "Barbie Girl." The fun, infectious beat set the song a cut above the average novelty single. Today, Aqua continues to draw a new generation of fans who know fun when they hear it.

What a great experience. The band was lively, entertaining and engaging. Picked up right where we left off and never missed a beat. So glad I went.
It was my first concert and it sure was a live one Aqua had me on my feet the whole time and everyone around. brought me back to the good old days. đ
9 of us went to see the show (group of girls 30s-40s) we had a blast! Such a great show.
Such a fun night - Aqua really knows how to pump up a room. The whole theatre was up and singing and dancing along. Lene wasnt feeling well and still sang incredibly. The mixing was awesome, the sound was very clear. I definitely recommend seeing them while you can!
Loved it felt like I was a child again. đđđ» Someone started smoking Mary Jane in the audience wish I knew what happened after that hahaha
Every performance was amazing !! Branvan3000 was so good then prozzak made a spectacular performance and Simon even brought what I am assuming we're his kids out on stage as a mom I totally loved that! And then aqua was a blast from the past and you could t help but get up and dance and sing my deceased best friend and I used to be obsessed with aqua back in highschool so it was very special to me getting to see them live! And they did not disappoint I hope they come back again!! Thank you for the best concert I have ever attended !!!
My expectations were just to go and have a good time. They blew me out of the water. Absolutely exceptional.
Great way back play back to when life made sense. The venue was incredible and we'll be coming back again absolutely.
Had a blast at the Aqua concert, good venue, good price, great show!!!
Aqua knows how to put on a show, every time! Prozzak and BranVan 3000 were the perfect openers. This was my 6th time seeing Aqua and I will continue to buy tickets anytime they are in Canada!
We love Aquaâs music and we were really looking forward to this concert! The casino is old and tired, but also hugely impacted by COVID so I wonât harp on that. Prozzac sounded exactly like they always did so the only thing that would have brought value would have been a decent show. Instead, the entertainment was the female singer bouncing around in cut off jean shorts and a teeny tiny tank top that allowed her boobs to bounce to the beat. Meh Then we waited far too long in a hot room for Aqua to appear. The opening band is meant to get the crowd excited. It was nap time instead. As for Aquaâs performance, to say it was a major disappointment would be an understatement. Iâm far from a prude and worked in a mine where every second word was colourful, but this was a whole different level of crass. Lene sounded amazing, but too many m-f-ers rolled off her tongue and her outfit was rough. Rene is the reason I decided to write this review. He was taking cell phones from the fans, shoving it down his pants, rubbing it around and handing it back. Gross. But the fans kept handing him phones so he kept doing it. He kept swinging his water bottle and microphone around near his crotch and thrusting his hips out. Yuck. The clincher for me was when he gulped in huge amounts of water and proceeded to spew/spit it over the crowd. More than once. In COVID times. That is putrid in the best of times, but right now itâs unsafe and disgusting. I feel bad for anybody who was rushing the stage, hoping to be a part of something cool only to get spit on. The technical challenges didnât really bother me. It happens and I worked with bands for years so we move on. However, they built up the crowd to expect a bonus song at the end only to sing Barbie Girl. Again. Two or 3 songs after they had already performed it. Lazy. Perhaps it was because they were guaranteed an over 19 year old audience and they wanted to just let loose? Iâm all about letting your freak flag fly, but allow for a little bit of class and dignity. All I know is that I had heard only amazing things about their current tour and they destroyed my image of them in one short night.
Aqua sounds as amazing as they did on recording 20 years ago. I couldn't believe it! René [male lead] has so much energy and passion! He was bouncing around the stage and sounds fantastic. It also exposed me to a ton of music I'd never heard from them which is all great. Would definitely recommend to anyone who remotely thinks they would enjoy it!
What a fun and entertaining show. Way more then I expected. Loved every minute of it.
The show could of been better in my opinion. Aqua was great brought back great memories jamming with my mom in the car, but there were so many technical difficulties that it made it hard to enjoy. They played one encore song but feel like that didnât really make up for the technical difficulties. Not necessarily aquaâs fault but⊠Also, I would really like casino rama to rethink their carbon footprint and the waste of single use plastic cupsâŠ
How to describe the live performance of Aqua? The sounds were cinematic and expansive. The vocalists sound true to their recorded performances. The energy was high and the bass shook the bleachers. You will not be disappointed if you go see Aqua live!
The concert was great but it was a bit disappointing that there was no merch booth.
They had some technical difficulties and had to stop a couple times but otherwise the performance was awesome! I just wish they would have played the original versions of their songs. And I wish they played bumble bee!!!
The entire show was great and that includes the opening act. Lots of fun!
Iâve seen aqua 3 times and she has the most incredible voice! Definitely puts on a great show!
