Arizona Coyotes History

Before they were the Arizona Coyotes, this franchise — a founding member of the World Hockey Association — was originally based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and began playing in 1972 as the Jets. The early team made headlines before the season even started after signing hockey star Bobby Hull from the Chicago Blackhawks. The Jets went on to be one of the best teams in the league, winning three titles from 1976 to 1979.

The WHA merged with the NHL before the 1979-1980 season, but the Jets were unable to maintain their dominance and the franchise was relocated to Arizona before the 1996-1997 season; they became known as the Phoenix Coyotes. The Coyotes subsequently qualified for the postseason in each of their first four seasons and hockey legend Wayne Gretzky became a minority owner of the team in 2000 and their head coach in 2005.

After filing bankruptcy in 2009, the team was later purchased by the NHL. Despite the tumultuous seasons, the Coyotes won 50 games during the 2009-2010 season. In the 2011-2012 season, they won their first division title in franchise history. In 2013, the NHL sold the team and its name was changed to the Arizona Coyotes in 2014. Since 1997, the Coyotes have made it to the playoffs a total of nine times.

Game time was way to early.

by Adog on 2011-02-16JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

With the traffic in Phoenix, it is next to impossible to get to the game by 6 pm. Why do the games start so early there, they start at 7 or 7:30 pm everywhere else.

    great experience

by anon99 on 2010-12-03JOBING.COM Arena - Glendale, AZ

More Flames jerseys in the crowd than I expected. Lots to do in the arena area and a lot of fun to attend a hockey game in Phoenix. As much as I would love to see another NHL team in Canada, it would be a shame to not have that event to attend in AZ.

    Flames! Flames! Flames!

by Suzles on 2010-11-14JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

Went on a 24 hour trip to Phoenix just to watch the Flames. Very nice arena, Terrible nachos and cheese - mind you, nothing ever comes close to the ones they sell at the Dome! Lot of Flames fans there - shame the Phoenix locals don't get behind their team a bit more. Wish we had won!

hockey is fun in the desert

by crabbydude on 2010-11-10JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

The entire area surrounding the Jobing.com arena is restaurants, pubs, live music stage, an entire experience for the event. The climate obviously allows for patios in November but it adds to the vibe. If you are a hockey fan and in the area, check it out. NHL tickets are readily available and priced to sell.

Idea was good not very organized line up for bands, food, condiments, should have given wristband with tickets. The hotdog condiments were only at one area after the wait the dogs were cold. Getting more was no problem as most people didn't go back for more, The Parking, staff and facilities were top notch would go to see hockey but not the food deal.
