Arizona Coyotes History

Before they were the Arizona Coyotes, this franchise — a founding member of the World Hockey Association — was originally based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and began playing in 1972 as the Jets. The early team made headlines before the season even started after signing hockey star Bobby Hull from the Chicago Blackhawks. The Jets went on to be one of the best teams in the league, winning three titles from 1976 to 1979.

The WHA merged with the NHL before the 1979-1980 season, but the Jets were unable to maintain their dominance and the franchise was relocated to Arizona before the 1996-1997 season; they became known as the Phoenix Coyotes. The Coyotes subsequently qualified for the postseason in each of their first four seasons and hockey legend Wayne Gretzky became a minority owner of the team in 2000 and their head coach in 2005.

After filing bankruptcy in 2009, the team was later purchased by the NHL. Despite the tumultuous seasons, the Coyotes won 50 games during the 2009-2010 season. In the 2011-2012 season, they won their first division title in franchise history. In 2013, the NHL sold the team and its name was changed to the Arizona Coyotes in 2014. Since 1997, the Coyotes have made it to the playoffs a total of nine times.

I am from Vancouver. Coyotes came into Vancouver and played awesome a few weeks before I came down to Phoenix so I was so pumped about watching them. They were like a totally different team. . . They stunk! My first time at the venue though and I have to say it was awesome. and all the food I can eat? That was awesome as well!! Overall I had a great night out and would recommend a game to anyone.

    Wings vs Coyotes

    by Underh2o on 2010-01-03JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

Great game. I was amazed at the number of Wings fans that attended the game. I've noticed that Fans from the Phoenix area seem to come out to cheer for the opposing team. What a bunch of turncoats. Do the fans from Phoenix have Jerseys for each of the NHL teams ?. No wonder the Home Team is going under and will soon end up back in Canada.

    Coyotes vs. Canucks

by Suzika on 2009-12-30JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

The arena site is amazing...considering the winter conditions we must endure to attend a hockey game. Lots to see and do here. The Coyotes are playing well and we are looking forward to tomorrow nights' game. Might have to take in the Red Wing game too!

    Phoenix Coyotes Family Pack

by thenicks on 2009-12-27JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

Tickets said the game was at 6:00pm , when in fact it started at 7:00pm. Doors don't open to the arena till 1 hour prior so we had to wait outside. Then when we got to our seats, two of the seats were broken in section 108 Row I, seats 5,6,7,8,9, and we just had to deal with it. Game was good,

    Great Hockey on the Cheap

by DigityBhu on 2009-12-14JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

If you live in a NHL city where good seats are unaffordable and/or unobtainable, you have to check out a Phoenix Coyotes game. Good seats are always available, and there are great deals to be had. Make it part of your next golf trip!

    Coyotes a hidden gem

by TKLethbridge on 2009-12-08JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

It's really too bad more people don't go to see the Coyotes play. They're a good, solid club, they play in a great building and the fans who are there are very passionate. For a real hockey fan, this is the best bargain you'll ever find. Cheap, lower bowl tickets to see anybody in the NHL . . . you can't beat it.

    Parking lot congestion

by Anonymous on 2009-12-04JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

We've attended games before and were thrilled at the quick exit from the parking. However, last night we sat in traffic for 20 minutes without moving an inch while attendants helped clear the area beside us after blocking us in. We are season ticket holders in Calgary and the parking lot is our main complaint there - this doesn't encourage us to attend another game.

    Habs in the desert

by AnotherHabfan on 2009-11-18JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

A weak effort on the part of both teams. Unlucky 2 minute stretch for the Coyotes in the third. But alas, all the Hab fans exited happy. Really nice arena and environs!!!

    cool arena

    by spaz47 on 2009-11-13JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

This being the first game that I hace attended in Phoenix turned out to be better than expected, as I was impressed with the parking as it was easy to enter and exit . When walking to the area I was amazed with the surrounding resturants and the coyote figures in the open area,as this proved to be an excellent meeting place before and after the game. Upon entering the arena I was impressed with the overall layout and the freindly staff as they answerd any questins and directed us to our seatinwhich made things very easy, and having esculaters to the upper lavels was excellent as being from Vancouver area I know they have nothing like this. The game was excellent except the first period was a little slow but the remaining two were great and I will probably come to another game before we leave as some of the upcoming prices were unbelieveable.

    EXCITING OVERTIME WIN

    by 27LEAFS on 2009-10-16JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

We came all the way from KITCHENER-WATERLOO to see this game and it was more exciting than any Leafs game I've seen in the last year. Both Goaltenders were great and many great scoring set-ups were stymied. Jobing.com arena is excellent and there were many great seats available. The 90 degree weather was excellent for the arena concourse outside which features many great restaurants and bars. If I could live in Phoenix for the winter, I would attend many games.
