LOVED IT!! Worth the wait after it being cancelled 4 times due to pandemic. I would see it again!
Show was great - very good cast, use of stage and space. The only drawback was it was too warm/hot inside the theatre - summer time show - needs more AC.
Venue was great, and the cast has amazing voices and acoustics were fantastic. Worth every dollar!
Every second is fantastic. Not your typical musical. It’s a must-see!
I enjoyed the technical side of the production, with the exception of the sound. Me and my colleagues that attended the show struggled to hear the words that the singers were singing through much of the production. As a result, it was difficult to get the full story. There was alot in the story and much of it was missed. The sound quality improved in the second act, but it was still challenging to hear all of what was being expressed. That really took away from the experience. I am uncertain why it was decided to sing all of the dialogue. I think it would have helped if there had been some spoken dialogue. I also found that there was alot going on around the main players particularly on the raised platforms surrounding the stage and I am not sure why that was necessary. It was distracting, in fact and did not add to the production. I would have had less going on in the background, if I were staging this.
The casting, choreography, music were all spectacular! Fabulous voices and dancing made me feel like I was on the stage with them. Sooo appreciated the period costumes, which producers these days omit. The contemporary variations on costumes for the chorus was both a creative and thoughtful variation of the period theme! Bravo to all! If I were to mention one thing, the program was seriously lacking. But at least there was one. The last time we were at the NAC we were asked to use our phones to download the program, hard to do when you are asked shortly thereafter to turn off your phone. NAC, go back to old school programs with a well written synopsis. It works.
Hamilton was amazing. I didn’t really know much about the plot, but was aware of the hype. I went with friends who were more excited about attending than I was, going in. It surpassed any expectation I might have had. It is definitely a more contemporary incarnation of stage musicals- rap battles and expletives make it clear that this is not Rodgers and Hammerstein or Lloyd Webber. The plot, music and choreography were all enthralling. It is very high energy- one powerhouse scene after another - and I’m so impressed by the performers who kept the momentum going. Hamilton lives up to the hype and is indeed a “must-see” production.
A super, awesome enjoyable show! Very glad we got seats so close.
As Canadians, the historical context was only vaguely familiar and not particularly engaging. In the first act, it was hard to find a character with whom to make an emotional connection. This changed in the second act, especially with the relationship between AH and his family. The principals’ (especially Alexander and Eliza) voices did not come through the sound system with the power needed to capture our attention. The lyrics were difficult to catch and, while brilliantly written, made following an unfamiliar story line quite tricky. We would have benefited from listening to the sound track a few times before seeing the production. Generally, the audience responded politely to the production, which made a very vigorous contingent of folks in the back of the mezzanine seem like people planted to drum up enthusiasm. Loved the choreography and music. We would like to see this musical again, just not as a live production.
I didn't know what to expect, and was worried the music would be "too modern". But the show was better than I expected, with a ton of history packed in to a couple of hours. I should have read about Hamilton first, to prepare.
We drove from Nova Scotia to Ottawa with 3 children for the production and it did not disappoint! We loved every beautiful second of it! Amazing!
One of the best Broadway musicals I have seen to date. The first act is one show stopping number after another. The second act is more solemn and slower paced and will have tears running down your cheeks at the end. Loved it. The actors are all amazing. The only downers- had to wear a mask which I understand is good practice at this time and the event space was warm which made for uncomfortable breathing. Better air circulation would have helped immensely.
Pertinent subject matter. Talented performers! Was in Amphitheater and had a little difficulty with the sound - ie the dialogue and lyrics. Didn’t catch it all. But could have been just my own hearing.
Extra- ordinary talent and amazing cast’s. Wonderful costume design’s. Sound and light effects are fantastic. Stage decoration is perfect. Musical arrangement and the pianist is incredible.
Really a very good production! Excellent staging, choreography (the highlight, I think) and vocal performances. Especially impressive seeing how much ensemble work there is in this show; more of that than of solo moments! My only negative would be that some of the more subdued or introspective moments didn't always project as well; it was difficult to discern the words at times. (And my seat was in the boxes, so I was not that far from the stage!) Just a bit of a balance issue; I think the orchestra just needed to tone themselves down at bit more at those moments. Overall, however, a very engaging and lively production that kept me focused from beginning to end!
Amazing experience! Recommend to everyone!!!!!!!!!
Went in Edmonton with family and could not resist going again at home in Calgary. And we got an even better Lafayette/Jefferson in Calgary. Sad to say but our Calgary crowd was much more enthusiastic and familiar with this work of pure genius than our Edmonton crowd. Calgary rocked all the more for it!
Absolutely amazing start to finish! Performers, lights, sound, wardrobe it’s my new favourite!
The show was amazing. The merchandise was somewhat limited- many items were sold out, and some of the merchandise prices were a bit high. The sound during some of the performance could have been calibrated a little better- there were moments with certain actors where their microphone or voice was not loud enough to be heard over the music. But overall a great performance, the set and costumes be the rotating stage are spot on!
