    Didn't have any"Lupin's"

by BreakingNews on 2016-10-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Maybe my most favourite comedy actors of all time. Show turned out to be a history lesson on how John and Eric became famous. Where as I was hoping for tons of comedy skits and costumes, we were treated to a couple of stationary red chairs where John and Eric chatted mostly about their past , occasionally treated to a few small video clips of old past episodes and screen performances on a somewhat small video screen behind them. If I remembered correctly during my slumber, there may have been three short skits and a couple of songs, and from my vantage difficult to hear :( All in all ,I was disappointed.....I wanted to laugh til I cried......

    Fun but overpriced

by ulurudreamer on 2016-10-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The evening was fun, sort of a history of Monty Python and its members; but it wasn't as funny as I was expecting, maybe due to not that many clips played. The sketches they did were great, maybe the best part, but at times there was too much talking. I will say this: it was long enough, as compared to another similar event I attended. But I found it overpriced especially for the balcony level seats I had, where I struggled to see over the woman in front of me who kept leaning over to see over the person in front of her.

Great to see them together again!

by RedRobinsonRegular on 2016-10-24Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

We gad a great time listening to John and Eric explain and joke about the beginnings of Monty Python and the British comedy scene in the 60's. We saw John when he last came through, but this was special getting the chance to see them together as they laughed about their experiences and the friends and associates they made along they way. Unfortunately the sound level was a bit too low, so at times it was difficult to make out what they were saying, but overall it was a lot of fun and a bit nostalgic.

Monty Python revisited. What a great evening

by jbarc49 on 2016-10-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I have always been a huge Monty Python and Faulty Towers fan. To see both John Cleese and Eric Idle together was a real treat, as they reviewed their lives from Cambridge University, their early careers, Monty Python and their movies, and Faulty Towers with John Cleese. Eric Idle sang many of his best songs: "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life", "Sit on my Face", "Eric the Half a Bee" three of my favourites (I also laughed at his finale F**K Xmas). Lots of clips from their shows and some great skits. A sold out concert worth every minute.

a history lesson of monty python

by DRmc on 2016-10-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

a trip down memory lane with skits, songs, videos and chats with these 2. together and then separately. they push the boundaries of political correctness and have a lot of fun doing it, despite their age.

A wonderful memory of all the great moments in Monty Python / Fawlty Towers / Python Movies. John and Eric were in top form and the show got better and better as it went on, particularly the encore song by Eric. Due to the sound problem, we rate the first half hour as Poor (One Star) and the rest of the show as Amazing (5 Stars). Overall I am sure the whole show was Amazing if we could have heard the first half hour.

    Dynamic Duo Brings Back Funny

by Dramadude on 2016-10-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

It had been 43 years since I saw John Cleese and Eric Idle live at the QE Theatre in Vancouver. Although much older now, they brought back the kind of comedy that I love. Their banter back and forth came across as unrehearsed, even though much of it most likely was. We learned more about them and their lives and the background details of all the TV shows and Movies. They joyously told the most tasteless jokes and made the audience break out in laughter. Eric Idles guitar playing and singing were a highlight for me. His lyrics are still topical today and still bring a smile to your face. John Cleese is just fun to be in the same room with. Quick paced evening, leaving the audience with a poignant story about Terry Jones and his importance in Monty Python, and a shocking revelation about his deteriorating health. From humour to pathos, the evening had it all.

Left feeling more sad than buoyed

by sima606 on 2016-10-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I adore John Cleese and Eric Idle. I was therefore very excited to see these two legends on stage, not knowing exactly what to expect. From early on in the show it was a delight to revisit some of their clips on screen, but increasingly sad to see watch them try to recreate the old buzz -- especially John Cleese who moved slowly and sometimes seemed to be wandering. Despite his best efforts, he didn't really seem to be having fun. The old timing was gone and he seemed a rather sad version of himself. Eric Idle stepped in to hold up the show on such occasions and gave it what ever energy it had. From the comfort of their armchairs they shared anecdotes from their past, many of which were told in the Monty Python documentary. This kind of show would have worked much, much better in a smaller, more intimate setting. There were some moments of real sparks in the sketches they performed on stage that reminded one of their comic genius, but these only made the rest of the performance seem sadder to me.

    Cultural icons rock it

by Ethel3 on 2016-10-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Intimate setting and variety of presentation by these two cultural icons made an entertaining and informative evening. I so enjoyed the background stories on the evolution of Monty Python to the development of their own shows (Faulty Towers). I loved being "silly" with them. The clips, the sketches, the songs ... very sentimental as it took me back to quality comedy which is lacking these days.

A living, maybe not for long, legend...absolutely great show. Basically a quick autobiography of his life from childhood through until now. Great fun.

great to see a living legend

by wildmanca on 2013-10-14Myer Horowitz Theatre - Edmonton

John Cleese is a living legend in the truest sense of the word. It was so great to see him up close and intimate in a small venue. Will never forgot it. Funny, respectable, and classy.

John Cleese - Last Time To See Me Before I Die

by GR59 on 2013-10-09Myer Horowitz Theatre - Edmonton

I have been a big fan of John Cleese and the rest of the Pythons since the '70s, My son (also a big fan) and I went together to the show and we both loved it! We really had no idea really what to expect but were so excited to get a chance to see John Cleese! It was just so entertaining hearing the stories from his life and career told with typical John Cleese sarcasm and wit. For some reason, I had thought that he was going to take questions from the audience, which would have been a lot of fun too, but all in all an awesome show.

    John Cleese never gets old

by KirkB on 2013-10-09Myer Horowitz Theatre - Edmonton

Despite claims of being "nearly deceased"' John Cleese was alive and hilarious. Telling his life story as only he can, we were thoroughly entertained. Only complaint was the relatively low volume as it was sometimes difficult to hear what he said. Fortunately, the audience was paying rapt attention and there was little crowd noise during the performance.

    John Cleese

by jennymc on 2013-10-09Myer Horowitz Theatre - Edmonton

I didn't know what to expect, I mean its John Cleese after all, and I wondered what he was going to do. I was thoroughly delighted in his kinda autobiography from his own mouth. Myself and my husband laughed alot, and we really enjoyed his deliverance of his working story. I am really pleased to have seen him in real life, he really has packed alot into his 74 years, and thank you John for sharing it with us.

Very interesting to see how choices presented themselves and John progressed through his life. So many exerpiences that his highlights only touched on part of it. Very interesting man. Enjoyed the whole show!
