Austin FC History

Austin FC made history in January 2019 when it was announced as the first major professional sports league team to play in the Texas capital, the largest city in the United States at the time without a major league team. For the 2021 MLS season, Austin FC took the pitch for the first time as the league’s 27th team and new competitor in the Western Conference.

Despite missing the MLS Cup Playoffs in their inaugural season, the “Verde and Black” advanced to the conference finals the following season and notched the club’s furthest postseason run yet. Meanwhile, Austin FC won back-to-back championships at the annual Copa Tejas Division 1 tournament in 2022 and 2023. Austin FC qualified for the first round of the 2025 MLS Cup playoffs, but lost in their second playoff meeting against LAFC. The 2025 squad also reached the final at the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup before falling to Nashville SC, 2-1.

Austin FC at Q2 Stadium

Austin FC plays at Q2 Stadium, the city's first major league sports stadium that opened in June 2021. The Texas capital's first professional sports team was the only MLS club to sell out 100% of its home games in 2021, thanks in part to the local Austin FC supporters clubs. The club also achieved an MLS record in June 2019 when they secured the largest number of season ticket membership deposits in a single day. The pitch also hosted two matches in the 2024 Copa América tournament, plus the MLS All-Star Game and U.S. Open Cup final in 2025.
