Worth going if you buy the cheaper seats.

by FlavaFlav on 2017-03-21Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Went to Ballet BC's program 2 tonight. It was alright, but I definitely think I prefer classical ballet over contemporary. The problem I had was with their choice of music accompaniment. For the first two acts I hated it so much. I just wanted to cover my ears. It was mostly a series of loud, cacaphonious sounds. Not pleasing or moving at all. And I felt like it took away from the actual dancing so much. The third and fourth acts were much better. For one of them, the dancers performed to spoken word poetry and I thought that was really neat and creative. The last one was the best though. The dancers performed to piano/violin accompaniment and that was much more in line with what I'm used to. They also had a beautiful falling snow backdrop, which we all thought was digital, only to find out at the end that actual white stuff was falling from the rafters. I thought that was really cool and the entire piece was just absolutely beautiful. Overall I think the show was worth the $15 I spent. And I got a chance to dress up so that's always fun as well. :-)

    Program 2 . . meh

by Eileenog on 2017-03-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Was REALLY looking forward to Ballet BC Program 2 because of what I experienced when I saw Program 1. Program 1 was an absolute 5 out of 5 stars +++. Program 2 - good choreography but the music selection was very distracting, irritating and annoying which for me made it challenging to really enjoy the choreography. "Anthem" - outstanding choreography but the so called music - sound was OK at first and then just continued to wear on the nerves and ears. It was sad to see the choreography end but a RELIEF to hear the "music" finish.

Best BC ballet show I have seen!

by Saidi on 2017-03-19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Really hard to pick the best one out of the 4 performances! Each express different emotions and energy. The 3rd one is very unique and refreshing. These people are true artists - all local Vancouver chrographers... very proud of this city!

    Great performance

by LilyL6 on 2017-03-19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The ballet was very good, the first part was very modern and interesting. The music was overwhelming loud at times but maybe that's because I was so close to the front. The lady beside me was a seasoned viewer and she was covering her ears and later commented on how loud it was. Some of the music was more like annoying TV static and squelching which was very irritating at such high levels. The music was a disservice to the awesome dancers. Not what I imagine ballet music being. The theatre has very tight seating. Overall I would recommend but would probably take some earplugs for the bad loud music in the first performance.

The RWB (wth the help of many talented, aspiring local dancers) yet again delivered the timeless Nutcracker with a Canadian twist! Costumes, amazing! Dance, wonderful! Truly, a magical start to the holidays :)

    Nutcracker Splendour

We were whisked away in beauty and splendour for two hours. The costuming, the sets, and mist if all, the beautiful dancing. Beautiful ballet!

    Not the original story

by AD81 on 2016-12-14Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

It was cute, but I prefer the classic storyline. Some parts were a bit slow.

While the performance was very well done it was disappointing to find that they use canned music. In my mind, live music is very much a part of the performance.

The dancing was some of the best I've ever seen live! And the "Canadianisms" were very cute and entertaining. There is so much happening in every scene, and so much attention to the little details, it was a pleasure to watch, and I could have easily watched 2 shows back to back!

    Excellent performance

Creative show by Andrew Lewis - a mix of new and old ideas. Wonderful dancing and great props. The only thing missing was a live orchestra.

    No live orchestra!

by Finnwoman on 2016-12-13Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

This was my first ballet with a soundtrack, no live orchestra! The magic was not there. Live music is half of the production and experience.....I didn't know when I bought the tickets for my daughter and myself that a soundtrack would be played. Disappointing. Overall, ballet was average, I like the traditional interpretation better. Also choreography was partly average at best, poor in some scenes, time to change choreographer!

    Original, Creative, Great Show!

by Alici on 2016-12-13Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Great show, a close friend invited me and six of us went. Christmas classic, great show. Will be going again next seasons. No live orchestra was slightly disappointing, audio was played but it was clear.

Extraordinary choreography, emotional, triumphant execution and exceptional depth. Programme 1 conveyed every level of emotion and technical execution you could wish for. A beautifully melded programme

World class performance - don't miss it!

by TheGooch on 2016-11-06Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Each performance was unique and special. The diversity of the choreography and music had the audience engaged throughout and was a wonderful interpretation of what can be a dark subject matter. The dancers were so unique, and contributed equally. So much power and emotion. It was beautiful and I would recommend seeing over and over. Super diverse crowd in attendance which makes things fun as well.

    Not as magical as usual

by kwabc on 2016-01-06Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I've been to see the Nutcracker for 12 years now and I must say this year was different. I thought the beginning was too long (the party Christmas Eve) I didn't feel the excitement for the dancers. The music was wonderful and of course the snow fairies were just lovely.
