BC Lions History

The BC Lions open their 71st season in the Canadian Football League (CFL) on Saturday, June 7 at home to the Edmonton Elks. Founded in 1954, the Lions have made ten appearances in the Grey Cup, Canada’s football championship, and have won the cup six times: in 1964, 1985, 1994, 2000, 2006 and 2011. The Lions have claimed the Grey Cup twice on their home turf, including their notable 1994 victory over the former Baltimore Football Club, which prevented a U.S.-based team from hoisting Canadian football’s top prize. Following world class renovations to the stadium, the Lions won another Grey Cup at home in 2011. The Lions logged the CFL’s second-longest streak of playoff appearances, running for 20 consecutive seasons between 1997 and 2016. Throughout the BC Lions’ history, individual players have claimed 14 Most Outstanding Rookie Awards, 11 Most Outstanding Canadian Awards and Most Outstanding Defensive Player Awards apiece, seven Most Outstanding Player Awards, and five Annis Stukus Trophies for the CFL’s Coach of the Year.

  • Great experience - exciting game!

by Rick on 2025-11-04BC Place - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

The football game itself was very close throughout with a thrilling finish. The seats were so affordable, and the overall experience was great - always had something entertaining going on, even during the commercial breaks. The selection of food and drink at the stadium was also impressive.

  • What a blast!!!

BC lions Western Semi Finals game was a nail biting , lost my voice from screaming , loved my seats , amazingly fun date day with my husband. From the Hullo into the city , lunch and crowd cheering start at the Shark club and then into great , so worth the little extra money field side seats , all in all it was an incredibly fun day at BC Place .

Never been to a Canadian Football game before, didn’t understand the rules, but we had an awesome time.

  • it was a great game

by dmr on 2025-10-21BC Place - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

It was billed as country night. Most people there were not in country gear, but they did give out cow bells to the kids. After half time, they gave out the remaining bells. I had 6 kids sitting in front of me each with 4 bells on each hand, ringing them throughout the 2nd half. It was not pleasant.

I bought tickets for my grandsons birthday. We had a blast! it was a really good game they played awesome. I really like that they make it alot of fun with contests and entertainment. And of course the Jumbo Tron LOL My only negative would be they took my bag and charged me ten dollars to hold it. I didn't know it was to big to bring in. I understand about security I just thought it's a cash grab.

  • Fun times all around

My son and I went with my friend and her daughter — the kids had a blast, and so did we! It was my first time at a football game, which made it extra special. The cheerleaders were fantastic, and I’m so glad the BC Lions won! The kids also wanted to add that they love Crazy P. We’ll be back :)

  • Nowhere to pee

    by The Waterboy72 on 2025-09-29BC Place - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

The beer garden really should have porta potties. They’ve had them in the past but for some reason, no longer. Aside from that, amazing experience! Just saying!

  • Let's go Lions!

by Amber on 2025-09-15BC Place - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

This was a great experience, great stadium, and I loved the beer selection. My feedback is that we need more music, louder music, and generally more hype at the stadium.

  • Sound on screen too loud.

    by A&T on 2025-09-15BC Place - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

First time in this Stadium, and comparing to Winnipeg’s Stadium. The concourse had a lot of room and maybe that had to do with the lack of fans. Stadium felt quite empty at less than 1/2 full and the fans were pretty quiet compared to Winnipeg. We’ve had sellouts all year! $16 for a beer and $8.50 for Lemonade seemed pricey. Seabus and Sky train to stadium from the Ship Yards was great! Loved your mascot Roary! Loved the foam #1 fan giveaway! Not happy with your purse size regulation. I was maybe less than 1” too big and could squeeze it down, but security wanted to lock it up. Really!

  • No poutine!

by Kelly on 2025-09-15BC Place - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

The game was great but no poutine‼️ That is the only thing we like to eat at B.C. place. Big disappointment. We wandered the whole concourse. Asked a few vendors, nobody seemed to know anything. Put a big damper on our experience. Also the FX did not work during the sing along. Thank goodness the team did well🎉

  • Must summer experience

by Lena on 2025-08-21BC Place - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Great action and lots of effort put into sport presentation (only criticism is that sometimes there was even too much stuff happening on the sides, which distracted from the tense moments of the game). From the accessibility point of you, it was very easy and quick entry, friendly attendants to help find seats and plenty of facilities inside to make for a comfortable three hours. Definitely recommend attending a BC Lions game!

  • Great day out.

by PB on 2025-08-19BC Place - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Loved that the game was a 4 o’clock start. Hoping next year, more will be added at that time. We got great seats for last minute, and super cheap. We really enjoyed ourselves , and bonus, they won. Hoping to see a few more.

  • Mostly great, my young grandsons were with me!.

by KA on 2025-08-19BC Place - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

But unfortunately the loud, half naked, drunk fans sitting behind my season ticket seats were continuously using foul language and so we left after the third quarter. This impacted our enjoyment of the game significantly.

  • Very Entertaining

by Murr on 2025-08-19BC Place - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Very entertaining except that the roof was closed and it wasn't raining. The Dome was too humid and I don't understand, with a retractable roof that opens and closes, it remained closed

  • Awesome
