BC Lions History

The BC Lions are the fifth oldest active franchise in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Founded in 1954, the Lions have made 10 appearances in the Grey Cup championship game and have won the cup six times: in 1964, 1985, 1994, 2000, 2006 and 2011. The BC Lions have claimed the Grey Cup twice on their home turf, including their notable 1994 victory over the former Baltimore Football Club, which prevented a U.S.-based team from hoisting Canadian football’s top prize. The Lions logged the CFL’s second-longest streak of playoff appearances, running for 20 consecutive seasons between 1997 and 2016. Throughout the BC Lions’ history, roster members have claimed 14 Most Outstanding Rookie Awards, 11 Most Outstanding Canadian Awards and Most Outstanding Defensive Player Awards apiece, seven Most Outstanding Player Awards, and five Annis Stukus Trophies for the CFL’s Coach of the Year.

BC Lions at BC Place

The BC Lions are the longest-tenured team to continuously compete at BC Place, starting with its opening in 1983. The stadium has grown in stature across the league, hosting nine Grey Cup championship games, including a Lions victory in 2011. During home games, fans can expect to hear the BC Lions fight song “Roar, You Lions, Roar” and get hyped up with team mascot Leo the Lion. The 54,500-seat multipurpose stadium has also hosted Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps FC as well as games during the 2010 Winter Olympics and the annual Canada Sevens rugby competition. BC Place is located on the north side of False Creek in downtown Vancouver.

    BOMBERS won, so GREAT GAME!!

    by Blue-n-gold68 on 2023-10-12BC Place - Vancouver

I only attend when Bombers play the Lions. Disappointing to only see mustard + ketchup offered for veggie and/or hot dogs - diced, raw onions need to be offered always too, with dogs. And now...onto another GREY CUP! 🏆

Excellent entertainment from start to finish !!!!!

by Blakeworth Houndstooh Whitley 111 on 2023-10-09BC Place - Vancouver

Parking close to the stadium was easy and reasonably priced. The pregame outside music was energizing and fun. The staff at the gates were friendly and knowledgeable. The staff verbally described where the best route was to our seats. The food inside had a variety of meals including a monster corned beef sandwich, and a prime rib and turkey sandwiches among other items. Beverages included top notch alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. The cheer leaders and marching band were first class and could easily match among the best in North America. Patrons were picked to win in fun challenges for prizes. The enthusiasm of everyone in the stands was contagious to the end. Myself, my wife, her sister and brother-law, will definitely attend the next game. Yahoo to the end

Great in game experience. Best in the CFL. I was visiting from Winnipeg and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Great concessions too.

Fun game, too bad we lost

    by bwb917 on 2023-10-09BC Place - Vancouver

Its been a long time since I have been to a BC Lions game due to the location of where we lived. There have been lots of updates to the venue since we were last there, but there is one thing lacking for us, the choice of GF foods available for eating. Almost everything was in a bun or breaded except for the poutine stand. Our seating was good and the price was reasonable compared to going to a Canucks game. Good entertainment before and during the game.

    Improve the sound

by Knarf on 2023-10-09BC Place - Vancouver

Typical stay-to-the-end CFL dramatics so that was great. But sitting in a corner the public address system was often unintelligible. couldn't hear a lot of the penalty calls.

    Best in the West

by Texan on 2023-10-09BC Place - Vancouver

I bought my tickets hours after the beat down the Lions got in Winnipeg . Thought it might be for first place and it was. Love the Washington university marching band gave it a college atmosphere. Outside of a playoff and even more than some of them the crowd was into it and loud. Good job by the DJ and promos on the big screen. Thoroughly enjoyed the game even though we lost. So happy Doman bought the team he’s showing the league how to promote the game and the league

    Fun for the family

by Noteasilyentertained on 2023-10-02BC Place - Vancouver

These are passionate players playing at an elite level. My children enjoyed it thoroughly. We got on the big screen. The children want to go back. Mostly affordable in an unaffordable city.

    Best comeback game ever!!!

by Happy Camper on 2023-09-20BC Place - Vancouver

We have always enjoyed trying to get a few BC Lions games in and the game against the Ottawa REDBLACKS was the best comeback game from our BC Lions ever. We will be trying to get in a few more games in for the rest of this season and hopefully they bring home the Grey Cup this year. Go Lions Go!!!

    Holy comeback, Leo’s

by Rider Fan on 2023-09-19BC Place - Vancouver

Great seats in a good environment. Food was ok, I had a hot dog and a beer. Had better hot dogs at other ball parks. The venue is great, real shame more Lions fans didn’t attend a fantastic comeback by the home team! Definitely would come back and should be nice for the Grey Cup in 2024. Easy location to get to with outside entertainment as well. Plenty of hotels in the area if you are from out of town.

    Lions vs Redblacks

    by Stormy059 on 2023-09-19BC Place - Vancouver

It is always nice to see the BC Lions play live, in the stands. I’ve been to a number of games over the years and this game was like the Lions of old, nicknamed The Cardiac Kids! I don’t think I have ever walked out of a game being mad or pissed at the team for not playing up to their potential. We noticed alot of fans leaving before the game was over, what a mistake! Sucks to hear what the team did after them fans walked out of BCPlace. It was a friends first time attending a BC Lions game and she loved it and had a great experience. Living 3 1/2 hours away, we don’t get to as many games as I would like, in saying that, I am very happy Training Camps have been in Kamloops where we live and I take in alot of them practices, as well as the Fan Fest. Go Lions!!!

    Lion Up

by Angletti on 2023-09-19BC Place - Vancouver

Great game and experience. The pre game and in game experience very good. Very good contests , music and half time activities. A very good night. Only being able to buy 1 beer at a time certainly a hindrance.

    Difficulty with hearing announcing

    by Rainy on 2023-08-30

We found the announcer very difficult to understand & scoreboard wasn’t working for first half so frustrating following the game.
