Incredible musicians!!
by Carlaforestgirl on 2018-06-30The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5Great musicianship from each member of the band. After a number of songs, they all sounded the same.
Talented but not entertaining
by Anonymous on 2011-11-05University At Buffalo Center for the Arts - BuffaloRating: 2 out of 5The evening seemed like one endless jazz fusion medley. It was almost impossible to seperate one selection from the other. The indivdual and combined talents are amazing, but the repitition grew old. I'm not sure we were impressed with Levy's influence taking complete control. There was no banter and not a single tune we recognized or enjoyed. A bit to eclectic for the four of us. We've enjoyed the previous concerts much more, and probably would'nt attend another one. All four of us felt that way. The theater did not enforce cell phone and camera recording to any degree, and latecomers came and went as they pleased which was annoying. It all added up to a dissapointing evening considering the 270km drive there and back. The Buffalo Uniiversity theater itself is beautiful, and the sound is state of the art.
Jazz fesitval tent sucks
by dadsays on 2011-07-08Toronto Star Stage at Metro Square - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5the concert was mediocre at best, with the Flecktones going backward in time, doing their greatest hits! If you used to be able to count on one thing, it was that the flecktones would surprise you, but there were very few surprises at this show. Seemed very pat and rehearsed, no spontenaity. Sad day for the flecktones. I want Jeff Coffin back. That harmonica player is a real showman, in the worst sense of the word.
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
by Bluegrasshopper on 2011-07-05Toronto Star Stage at Metro Square - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5The Bela Fleck show of June 30 was nothing less than spectacular! From the opening note, we in the audience were treated to virtuosity in musicianship and composition. The bands' new recording, "Rocket Science" was performed in it's entirety along with numerous cuts from the "Cosmic Hippo" recording. All the band members played at the top of their game leaving the audience mesmerized by their talent. Howard Levy returns to the Flecktones bringing a sonic sensibility on the harmonica unrivaled by even the likes of Toots Thielmans. Victor Wooten's performance was without a doubt the finest example of electric bass playing I have ever seen. His command of the instrument is unparalleled by any other contemporary player, even the late great Jaco Pastorius. Future Man, perhaps the weakest link in a very strong chain, brought a beautiful voice and a technical profinciency to the percussion section that is hard to deny. Bela Fleck's playing was masterful as was his understated and unpretentious leadership manner. Bela' approach on the bandstand allows all players the opportunity to shine as was clearly demonstrated at this performance.
The original Flecktones
by Anonymous on 2011-07-03Toronto Star Stage at Metro Square - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5Absolutely incredible. I've been a fan of Bela Fleck for years and this is my second time seeing him in concert. The things this man can do with a banjo are amazing, and the rest of the band never fails to rise to the occasion. If there is a better bass player in the world than Victor Wooten, I've yet to hear of them.
Bela Fleck & Flecktones concert and new album

The best of the best
by 2112andsuch on 2011-07-03Toronto Star Stage at Metro Square - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5I have attended shows at huge venues costing several hundred dollars a ticket, but this Thursday they were all blown away by this one as my new favourite concert of all time. The musicianship is just spectacular- I can honestly say that on many accounts I found myself with a bewildered expression and a dropped jaw. All four are considered some of the absolute best at their instruments and genres, and when you are watching them you are so easily compelled to go in with a microscope and examine every little detail of one musician's intricate work that you forget that you are still listening to one whole dynamic and beautiful composition. In addition to all of this, these four really roll out the red carpet for their fans. They did their tuneups in an open tent to let anyone come watch, then they all got together and did a free meet&greet/autograph session before the show. These guys really appreciate their fans and treat them with grace and respect. I can see why people complained about going to a seatless show, but I didn't mind.
Amazing performance
by jaguaracer on 2011-07-02Toronto Star Stage at Metro Square - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5It was a very virtuosic show (it's the Flecktones after all) with each band member on full form. I was very impressed with the energy the band brought; a pleasant surprise. Show went from 9:40 to past midnight. Also, Flecktones are great in meeting with fans, signing autographs before the show. There were no chairs at TD Jazz Festival tent which was massively disappointing. We have to leave our area because my wife started getting woozy (we're not that old either!) .
Bela and the Tuvans.
