I thoroughly enjoyed 'Bend It Like Beckham' and so did my 11-year-old grand-daughter. The choreography blew us away! It was so incredibly done-blending the classical Indian dance with the 'street moves' of the girls' team. The voices were lovely and the whole play was very well cast. We loved the show and have been telling others to go see it while they can.
Loved the dancing but most of all the emotions evoked had me crying just like the movie. Great cast - they were so real!
With high expectations , this musical did not live up to the reviews . Did not like the original songs and felt they spent too much time getting to the game and then rushed everything in the second act. Some solid perfomances but definately not to the standard Iwas hoping for.
After reading a few reviews in the papers, we were getting disappointed about our upcoming show. We loved the movie and were keen to see how they make it a theatrical production and a musical. We were all blown away at just how good the performance was! Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Fantastic show! Great singing, acting and wonderful dancing. Fun treat for the whole family. Funny and heartwarming. Congrats to the performers and choreographers!
I was a bit afraid that the musical version of one of my favourite movies wouldn't live up to expectations...but it exceeded them on all levels. Great cast, especially the female lead. Awesome songs. Great night out!
A must see musical that has everything, comedy and drama. Songs and dancing is amazing. A 10 Star event!!
We’ve always adored the movie, and we’re expecting something fun and engaging. Instead we found the performances a little cringeworthy.
Fantastic show, suitable for all ages. Story was well told, sometimes sad but overall theme very uplifting. Wonderful costumes, singing and dancing
Many positive values are demonstrated. Ie gender equality, compassion, cultural acceptance. Loved the motivational music. Bollywood dancing was fun.
I adore the movie, so expected to love this. Saw a good review of the London run, too. But it was painfully bad. The songs in English were inane to the point of being embarrassing, like love poems written by middle-schoolers, and the melodies were interchangeable--none of them stood out at all. The songs in Punjabi were at least blessedly incomprehensible to me, and the differing musical norms made them a huge improvement--can't be the same song again if it comes from a different musical tradition, at least! The acting was good and the costuming was terrific. There were so many small terrible things, though, which outweighed those. Simple things, like the terrible and VERY visible forehead mics (surely something taped at the temple, much less obtrusively, would have worked? At least for Jess, who wears a ponytail the whole time and whose forehead mic is intensely distracting? The choreography, other than for the Punjabi songs, was boring at best, off-putting at worst. (The choreo for the Punjabi songs was terrific.) Overall, it felt like the lyricist, composer, and lead choreographer put in the least possible effort to get paid, and everyone else, clearly working fairly hard, suffered for it. Couldn't help but notice in the program that all three were white men, which is an odd choice for this story, which was so beautifully told by Gurinder Chadha in the movie. I bought front-row tickets as soon as I found out it was coming to Toronto; I really, really, really wanted to love it. Unfortunately, my recommendation has to be: stay home and watch the movie again.
A decent attempt to create a stage version of the hit film but the story just doesn't translate (at least this version). Largely forgettable music performed by an inspired cast which tries hard to elevate the flat narrative. It worked on the screen. It's a dud on the stage.
The cast was great, enthusiasm was amazing! Will definitely see again!
Amazing singing and stage performance lighting and everything in between go and see
Such a great cast. So many laughs and heartfelt moments. Really captured the great movie!
A truly wonderful experience, great choreography and singing, wonderful performance of the artists. Very energizing and uplifiting!
Gurinder Chadha delivers yet again! She attended the North american premiere in TO
I took my daughter to see the show because she watch the movie so many times as a child. We love the way it was done in musical and it was a great day to spend with my daughter.
