Bettye LaVette Tickets

Bettye LaVette proudly announced that she was 65 years old, which amazed the full crowd of fans at the Toronto Jazz Festival on Saturday, July 23rd. The soulful survivor proved that age is only a number with her high energy show. She strutted around the stage with much rhythm during the uptempo numbers and sang with much conviction and emotion during the slower tunes. After being a well-kept secret for 50 years, Bettye LaVette is finally receiving her well-deserved dues and giving these younger wannabe divas a run for their money. She is gutsy, rough, soulful, rock n' roll and bluesy. You cannot easily define a woman like Bettye. I would certainly go see her again in a heart beat.

I was absolutely blown away by Bettye Lavette's performance. She has an extraordinary voice, charisma and terrific musicians. I had a real sense of a woman who has taken a gift and, over the years, honed it to perfection. I hope she comes back to Toronto because I would see her again and again.

Loads of talent in one evening. The Big Sound put me in the mood for a week of music. Bettye made me think that turning 50 next year will be no biggie - maybe I'll steal a page from her and reinvent myself.

This is about the 5th or 6th time I have watched Bettye Lavette perform. She is wonderful and amazing at her performances and I always look forward to seeing her when she is in Toronto or close to Toronto
