About

With five Grammy wins and sixteen nominations, Brittany Howard follows up her massively acclaimed solo debutJaimewith the new single "What Now" and teases what is to come from her upcoming album of the same name. Like Jaime (whose celebratory single "Stay High" earned a Grammy for Best Rock Song),What Nowfinds Howard once again taking the helm as producer and working closely with longtime collaborator engineer/co-producer/co-mixer Shawn Everett. The album emerged through a deliberately free-flowing process, with Howard doubling down on the unfettered creativity that's long defined her work. "I don't ever plan too deeply, but usually I show up with the songs almost fully formed," she says. "There was a lot of exploring sounds on the spot, and trusting that the right thing would come to us."

"What Now" takes on a potent urgency fueled by its syncopated grooves, blistering guitar riffs, and fiercely honest lyrics ("I've been making plans that don't include you anymore/My heart wants to stay but I don't know what for"). "'What Now' is maybe the truest and bluest of all the songs," says Howard. "It's never my design to hurt anyone's feelings, but I needed to say what was on my mind without editing myself. I like how it's a song that makes you want to dance, but at the same time the lyrics are brutal."

There's a double meaning to the title of What Now. "With the world we're living in now, it feels like we're all just trying to hang onto our souls," says the Nashville-based musician and frontwoman for four-time Grammy Award-winning Alabama Shakes. "Everything seems to be getting more extreme and everyone keeps wondering, 'What now? What's next?'

    Incredible Vocal Range

by Mirkito on 2024-02-16The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Brittany's live performance was incredible. I was a big fan from the Alabama Shakes days and was not quite sure what to expect from her solo performance. Her voice was simply amazing. The group overall was perfect, and I felt that this was one of the best live performances I've been to. It sounded like a studio recording.

Incredible how much talent can fit on one stage

by Mads on 2024-02-14The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Becca Mancari was a great opener, very charismatic with a contagiously punk attitude. Brittany is an amazing performer. Her vocals are unmatched, just as crisp and even more soulful than her recordings. I love that they took a few moments to spotlight some of the band members. I will remember that drum solo for the rest of my life. Highly recommend grabbing a ticket to this show if you're on the fence. It was a delight from start to finish!

Brittney Howard's vocals never miss. The band and backup singers were all incredibly talented. I'm so glad this was my first show of the year. Becca Mandarin was also great! 12/10 show 💖

    Soulful

by Billy Elliott on 2019-11-22Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Brittany Howard performs from the heart, has a great band backing her up and put on a wonderful performance. The Commodore has done some nice renovations and made it an even better venue for acts like this. Awesome combination for a great evening!!

    Sings straight from the soul!

by Jessica on 2019-11-22Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Amazing show - Brittany sings with so much conviction! Hoped for 1 or two Alabama Shakes songs, but she was amazing and would highly suggest to anyone to check out her show. She always genre bends, so there was such a wide variety of people at the show which I think speaks to a top artist!

    Love her!

    by G on 2019-11-22Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I adore her, unfortunately her sound was muddy so couldn’t get into. Barely could make out her vocals. Commodore is known for great acoustics so someone didn’t do their job properly. Very disappointed
