BIG WRECK IN CONCERT:

Beloved hard rockers Big Wreck have been bringing the ruckus since 1994, with no signs of slowing down. The band possesses a dynamic sound that can shift from hard rock to anthemic post-grunge all while still staying true to their unique style. At their live shows the band tears through popular tunes like "The Oaf (My Luck Is Wasted)" and the No. 1 smash hit "Albatross" alongside material from 2014's Ghosts with reckless abandon. With 20 years of touring experience under their belt, Big Wreck knows how to get ticket buyers headbanging at their rocking live sets.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Boston-based rock outfit Big Wreck formed in 1994 after the members met at the Berklee College of Music. They started to jam together and perform local shows near campus, eventually attracting attention from execs at Atlantic Records. They signed with the label and released their 1997 debut In Loving Memory Of..., which featured three Top 10 hits on the Canadian Alternative chart and a Top 10 on the US Mainstream Rock chart. Their widespread popularity throughout the Great White North -- where lead singer Ian Thornley grew up -- spawned several headlining tours in support of their breakout album. They followed up with 2001's The Pleasure and the Greed -- a popular album that featured three radio-friendly hits and continued to earn the band major acclaim. Since then they've released two more Top 10 albums including 2014's Ghosts and have proven themselves as mainstays within the rock genre. Fans can experience Big Wreck’s hit-filled catalog on full display whenever they take the stage on their high-octane tours.

    Sooooo good live!

by TinyTasha on 2014-10-21The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

The atmosphere and crowd energy on Friday night were outstanding. I've been to more than 10 shows and have never, ever been disappointed with the performance. I've been an Ian Thornley/Big Wreck fan since the first CD, In Loving Memory Of. He's such an underrated guitarist/singer. One of my favourite Canadian bands!

    Big Wreck Performance

by Southpaw1234 on 2014-10-21The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Big Wreck is a band that will never leave you disappointed. These musicians are highly skilled and perform well together. The song are played slightly different from the albums as live music should be, but this is not a bad thing. It is refreshing. Overall the performance was high energy, well structured and full of emotions. Saw both shows, Thursday and Friday night and plan to see them perform again the following week.

    Great Band

by Anonymous on 2014-10-20The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Big Wreck is always a great show. Probably my 12th time seeing Ian Thornley, and I'm never disappointed...they get better album to album. Danforth Music Hall is a solid venue...few audio hiccups at the beginning, but they figured it out and the rest of the show was awesome!

    Big Wreck was tremendous!

by CoiLaman on 2014-10-17Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Ian Thornley and the gang delivered a great gig as always. The songs spanned 20 years of their work and included all my favourite songs. However, the sound quality lacked at Danforth Music Hall. To be more precise, the low end was really lacking. The kick drums, the floor toms and the bass guitar did not deliver the power and weight they normally would if played through a better PA setup. I really doubt the music hall has its own subwoofers to reinforce the bass frequencies and that's really sad. The sound was even worse 2 years ago when I saw Big Wreck at this same venue. There was no bass to speak of 2 years ago. Now, it's a bit better, but still insufficient.

Big Wreck had big energy and tunes!

by JaymanSLC on 2014-10-13Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

A great show, rocked the venue in Hamilton. BW had big energy as a band, played the $hit out of their old and newer tunes, and even blasted out an AC/DC cover song. The audience was very receptive and tuned in the entire night, evidenced by most people standing from start to finish. The only complaint would be the average-ish length of the show (1hr). Now that BW has been around for awhile, and established a number of good records, I'd like for them to play a bit longer... but that's just the biased fan in me speaking :) Great show and can't wait to see them again!!

    Absolutely Fantastic

by AZNMNKY on 2014-10-13Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

Big Wreck absolutely killed it. I'd seen videos of them live from their tour after releasing Albatross and it sounded like Ian had a bit of trouble reaching the higher vocal notes in songs like Albatross and Wolves. After hearing them play both live, I was dead wrong. The vocal harmonies, the guitar and bass battles and the band's overall interaction with the audience was amazing!

    You have to see this!

by AnCatDubh on 2014-10-13Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

I am still truly awestruck. This was the most incredible visual and sound experience I have seen in years. The venue was nicely intimate and the band seemed to genuinely connect with the audience. So well assembled...and each of their talents were showcased at one of more times throughout the night, FANTASTIC! I loved the covers that seemed to lead into and blend flawlessly with their own songs. Ian Thornley...ahhh I am speachless. He is one of the most under rated talents in the business! Please go see this band, you will not be disappointed. I was also so very impressed with the sound at Hamilton Place. Cheers!

    Big Wreck.....best Canadian band going!

by damouse on 2014-10-07Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

If you want rock and roll, see a Big Wreck show. Frontman Ian Thornley is a phenomenal guitar player and even better singer. Definitely not a one dimensional band like some out there. These guys have range.

Big thumbs up for Big Wreck

by Evernormal on 2014-10-07Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

This was the best concert I've been to in a long time. Loved seeing them in a smaller venue (the Burton Cummings Theatre). I was saying "I love that song" to every song they played. This concert was a bargain at only $40 - I would have gladly paid more (but happy I didn't).

Big Wreck Has Stellar Performance In Abbotsford

by Python46 on 2013-04-27Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Complex - Abbotsford, British Columbia Canada, Tuesday April 23, 2013

I had never seen Big Wreck before and when I heard they were going to be the openers for Motley Crue I knew this show was going to be a classic. Big Wreck are great. They are well onto a second life as they tour promoting their 2012 release of Albatross, the bands third album and first since the revival of Big Wreck in 2010. Big Wreck, reunited by Canadian Ian Thornley, lead vocalist and guitarist. Also reunited is Brian Doherty, also on guitar. These two are all that's left from the 2002 line up. Ian Thornley's vocals are still the sound of the music that is Big Wreck. Killer Riff's and that great music. The Oaf, one of their biggest hits from their first album, " In Memory Of...", is a timeless classic as is "That Song". I had never seen them before and I would again in an instant. It was great. As openers they don't get to play a full set but the taste we got was enough to want more. Yeah Baby! The line-up with Big Wreck now is Ian Thornley, Guitar and vocals, Paulo Neta on guitar, Brian Doherty on guitar, Dave McMillan on Bass and Chuck Keeping on Drums. Great meeting after the show! Rock and Roll! Big Wreck opened for Motley Crue and with these two great bands the whole night was incredible!

    Always great live!

by Wonderwoman0987 on 2012-12-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver, BC

Big Wreck is awesome... I have watched them in a smaller venue and a larger size venue... Although they're becoming more popular (meaning that they'll likely be hosted at large venues from now on), I prefer watching them play in a more intimate setting because then if feels like a private show. :) I bought VIP tickets for their show in December 2012 and I was sure glad I did. The meet and greet was nice and low-key. Each VIP concertgoer received a signed poster and a laminated concert tag signed by each band member. We also had an opportunity to have autographs and photos with the band. For the show, I was in the 3rd row in the centre, really close to where Ian Thornley was singing. Although he seemed pretty introverted during the meet-and-greet, during the concert Thornley is confident and ready to impress. He has really strong vocals, mad guitar skills, and he's hot!!! For some reason, the crowd last night was really sedated in the beginning, but after a song or two, the 2500+ people in the crowd were standing up and rocking out. I can't wait to see Big Wreck again. Don't miss out-- make sure you get the chance to watch one of their shows live!!!
