About

BILLY CONNOLLY IN CONCERT:

Sideways-thinking and speed-chatting Scotsman Billy Connolly is a consummate improv performer and storyteller, regaling crowds with off-kilter folk songs and ridiculously circuitous stories for decades. Fans can always expect something weird, canny, and Scottish at his winking live shows as he works his way through new material and old standbys from his expansive discography. Having bounced back from prostate cancer in 2013, he remains an unstoppable force of funny on his 2014 tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Originally trained as a welder, Glaswegian comic Billy Connolly was inspired to a life of performing after one too many drinks at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Seeing the freaks and geeks he realized he could do the same, taking up banjo lessons and forming the comic-folk duo the Humblebums. His hilarious introductions before the band’s shows gained him recognition as a comic, and when the band split in the '70s, he took his act solo. Since then, he's gone on to achieve legendary status as a funnyman, writer, actor, and massive influence on subsequent generations of "tongues."

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"First time I have managed to see Billy live and he was amazing. We laughed from the minute he came on until he finished.”

"Billy Connolly is one of the best comedians! I've seen him perform in multiple countries now and have never been disappointed."

"Billy was the best comedy show I have ever seen. Laughed so hard I cried and my sides hurt.”

    Billy Connelly, Massey Hall

by waterhen on 2010-11-08Massey Hall - Toronto

This was the cure for the November blues. Very funny. Billy did not let us down - inappropriate language & very politically incorrect, just what we expected from him.

    Much better than I predicted

by mynextpromo on 2010-11-08Massey Hall - Toronto

My in-laws have a Scottish background and have been expounding the hilarity of Billy Connolly since I have come to know them. They showed me a tape a few years ago and either the audio or the heavy accent made it a little tough to follow. Anyway- that set me up for an event where my wife and I took her parents to the show at Massey. We were literally back row and tipping nearly on the street ;) (with the parents having better seats because we couldn't get tickets together). Short story long- my wife and I had a great time, which came to our happy surprise and of course her parents enjoyed it as well. Mr. Connolly sure has his 'act' down- in so much that it doesn't come across as an act at all. Besides the comical nature of the presentation we walked away with alternative thoughts on the life this man has lived. A lot of his tales are just day to day stuff delivered in a very unique way. Mr. Connolly is in the minute percentile that is able to step back and extract this stuff. I entered thinking of him as a comedian- I left thinking of him as an artisan. I hear he will play a part in Gulliver's Travels. Other elements were suggesting a 'miss' but we may go see it just for Mr. Connolly alone. NOTE: I would have given the show 5 stars but the venue (Massey Hall), albeit a landmark, is in major need of repair and updating. My mother-in-law has Muscular Dystrophy and there is no lift to the upper level (an argument could be made that we should have checked into this but we had no idea of the climb that awaited her) . Suffice to say she was not feeling the best the next day (as my wife put it- it was kind of like going out for a great steak only to make you sick the next day).

The Big Yin - As Good as it Gets

by Kimbola on 2010-11-08Massey Hall - Toronto

For over two hours I laughed till I cried. Billy Connolly is a legend, one of the best, without a doubt. I waited years to get to see him live and it was well worth the wait. Now I can't wait till he comes this way again.

    Still "The Big Yin"

by Piperdoon on 2010-11-08Massey Hall - Toronto

Billy Connolly is a master storyteller and comedian. Billy takes everyday occurences and turns them into gut-splitting, face-hurting stories. He is an absolute legend and a gem. Billy's way of thinking is extremely unique. His storytelling ability will leave you in awe and in stitches. It was obvious that the crowd in Toronto loves him and that he is welcome here anytime. This was not my first time seeing Billy Connolly live and it will definitely not be my last. I can't recommend his show enough. If you haven't seen Billy - you haven't lived. The show was brilliant and worth every dime for the 2h. 45m. non-stop laugh fest. Definitely 2 thumbs up!!

The Man Live was one of the greatest comedy shows I have seen. We didn't stop laughing the whole night. We were astonished and so pleased that he went so long - almost 3 hrs! The rest of the family went Sat and enjoyed it just as much and said he even had some different material. That is amazing - he has a great sense of humor! When is he coming back! How about the Rose Theatre in Brampton, Ontario???

    Always new!

My second time seeing him live, and I watch anytime he is on tv. No matter what it is, he is always interesting and hilarious. One of the best storytellers of our time, bringing his Scottish way of looking at everything to life for all to see.

    Billy Connolly is brilliant!

by FlashMarge on 2010-11-06Massey Hall - Toronto

Massey Hall Toronto Thursday November 4th - we LAUGHED!! Billy Connolly looks at life and situations through his unique cynical yet warm lens. He spots the absurdity in situations and describes it in a way that requires you not have drank too much water, coffee etc before the show. Otherwise you risk wetting yourself! Love the man and his amazing brain!

    Funny Man Billy Connolly

by laughterman on 2010-11-06Massey Hall - Toronto

As expected Billy was hilariously funny complete with colourful language, eccentric rage and great imagery. But man does this guy love to talk. 2.5 hours non-stop. We laughed for the whole show. But the theater seats were not made for a Billy Connolly show.

    Billy's last tour

by susanandmorgan on 2010-11-05Winnipeg hall - Winnipeg

We saw Billy in Winnipeg last time he was over. We're not from Winnipeg and flew there just to see him. We sat on what seemed so like a church bench that I kept wanting to kneel. He was hilarious and with the venue it was sometimes hard to know what was the more bizarre seeing him or being in that strange wee hall. Sell your children to buy the tiskets - it's worth it and they'll thank you ;-)

    "Silly Billy"

by jus4fun on 2010-11-04Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

Even Billy Connolly's colorful use of profanities has everyone rolling in the aisles inbetween story telling that bounds from one subject to another. Somehow he always manages to roll the story lines back into each other and you're left with sore ribs from laughing so hard and an acute appreciation of his mastery. I could watch him time and time again and always be saddened that the show has come to an end.

    Connolly never disappoints

by daffodil on 2010-11-04Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

Billy Connolly was absolutely hilarious. His quick wit, sense of humour and adlibing are rivalled by none. His use of personal experiences and the stories of growing up in Scotland are extremely entertaining. I haven't laughed that much since the last time he was at Hamilton Place.
