    Billy Elliot soared!

by UBCperson on 2013-04-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Billy Elliot exceeded all expectations. Dancing and music were truly outstanding. A feel good play that was touching and energizing and educational all at once. Caliber of troupe truly at the top of the chart. Orchestra was full and robust but not overpowering. Staging was fantastic. But the dancing and the troupe's skill was simply mesmerizing.

    Billy Elliot

by Goingon16 on 2013-04-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I found this show disappointing. Perhaps it was due to our seat location, but the sound was quite poor whcih made the whole event less enjoyable. "Billy's" performance was excellent, but no other standouts. A mediocre performance overall.

Billy Elliot not worth the money

by Finch on 2013-04-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Horribly disappointing evening; we were expecting a great musical with fantastic dancing given the reviews and Elton John's involvement. We were very tempted to leave at intermission but my husband felt that it had to get better. Thank goodness he was right; there was some dancing in the second half and the volume had been reduced. The singing was very poor; only two cast members really could sing and the rest chanted their lyrics. The vocabulary was very offensive. Yes the play was depicting a lower class mining family but the use of obscenities was totally unnecessary and very disturbing given that most of the cast was under the age of 14 let alone the audience. The censors should not have allowed this. Horribly over priced and very low class production.

    Billy Elliot was inspiring!

by leifsmommy on 2013-04-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I took my son, Leif, who is 6 1/2. Leif plays hockey and comes from a hockey family - but I put him in theatre school becuase he has so much energy and personality. He enjoyed this play very much - I explained a bit about what a strike at a mine is and gave some other little helpful tidbits along the way, but mostly he understood what was going on through the eyes of Billy Elliot. After the play, he begged to meet the actor, Noah, who played Billy Elliot. Noah was gracious and the two of them had a few laughs before having their picture taken. I have a feeling Leif will go into this next term of theatre school with a different vision of what it is all about. Take your boys to see this!

    Billy Elliot - superb

by rosemary2 on 2013-04-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Wow can that kid dance! I enjoyed every aspect of the show, the only negative I can say is that sometimes the accent was so bad that you couldn't understand what was being said, especially some of the children

    Billy Elliot

by weemaggie on 2013-04-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I was invited to attend by a friend and although I knew the story line, I had no idea what the stage production would be like. I love Broadway shows but have found in the past that the travelling companies productions do not measure up to their originals on the Broadway or London Stage. This time that assessment was completely wrong. I found the production absolutely amazing and enjoyed absolutely every moment. The time during the performance absolutely flew by. I also thought it unusal but heartwarming to see so many burley men on stage as dancers. A real treat. The actors were real characters and made me laugh and cry at the same time. Fantastic!

The production and actors were exceptional. The star of the show was, Mitchell Tobin, who played Billy on Sunday night. He absolutely stole the show.

    Billy Elliot

by eaglemtn on 2013-04-08Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Very good production but too long. Three hours is too long for a musical. Many numbers could have been cut. We didn't need to have conversation with the mother three times, once would have sufficed. Cast was superb, songs, choreography also good. But some people could be quite offended by swearing. The movie doesn't have that much swearing and I don't think it is necessary. My elderly mum was not too impressed with that part plus she was totally exhausted from sitting so long

This production was amazing. For the number of children in this production they all did an outstanding job. The humour was great. I love this production.

Simply the best musical I've ever seen!

by TheGooch on 2013-04-08Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Arguably, In my opinion, Vancouver is not the best place to watch live theater - or live anything for that matter... but this event truly brought out the emotion we Vancouverites generally keep to ourselves. The cast, top to bottom was committed and supported each other so well. The lead was simply amazing - where does one find a pre-teen with such passion and talent? He was simply incredible. A wonderful twist on the movie, it was humorous, touching and engaging start to finish. This is simply a must see!
