BLUE RODEO IN CONCERT:

Canadian roots rock mainstay Blue Rodeo has been sending fans "Head Over Heels" with their country-tinged sound and lighters-in-the-air concerts for more than three decades. The group has won a dozen Juno Awards in their home country, and they've earned a global fanbase with their approachable sound and unforgettable live performances. They've been called one of Canada's best live bands, and it's easy to see why as co-vocalists Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor tag team anthemic favorites like "Lost Together" and "5 Days in May". Fans looking to catch up with with these veteran rockers won't want to miss them any time they perform favorites from their decade-spanning discography on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Blue Rodeo was formed in the early '80s by Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor, two Toronto high school buddies who started playing music together after graduating. Following a stint in New York they returned to Canada and put together a band, and in 1985 Blue Rodeo played their first show at The Rivoli in Toronto. After two years of performing and honing their sound, the group released their 1987 debut album Outskirts to a Top 20 spot on the Canadian charts. A steady string of popular singles and albums followed in the late '80s and '90s, including country chart-toppers like "Try" and "Til I Am Myself Again". Their success continued in the '00s with no less than five Top 10 albums on the Canadian Albums Chart and a star on Canada's Walk of Fame. Over the course of 13 albums Blue Rodeo has won a whopping 12 Juno Awards, and they continue to impress with their time-honored sound and undeniable onstage chemistry every time they tour.

An annual event for many years now and we look forward to it. Always get a chuckle out of the "surprise guest" which is Barney Bentall. This year however, no BarneyDefinitely not as good as previous year. Opening act, Hawksley Workman very, very good and thoroughly enjoyed him. This is always a good event, however this year's show was definitely NOT as good as previous year. It just seemed Blue Rodeo didn't have the usual oomph!

  • Blue Rodeo Rocked the Malkin Bowl!

From the moment they stepped out on the stage, they captured the audience. They sounded great and had a fantastic connection with the audience. No flashy lights, just a good ol' Canadian Rock/Country/Folk Show. They had people of all ages dancing and singing along. I would see them over and over again.

  • Summer night with Blue Rodeo

by Jodie on 2009-07-14Malkin Bowl - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was fabulous....what a way to spend a summer night than laying on the lawn listening to the tunes of Blue Rodeo.... Was a little disappointed in the food outside the venue...not open for business until the next day...only thing available for dinner was beer and a smokie.... All in all a very enjoyable night out....

  • Blue Rodeo is simply amazing

by Sailorgal on 2009-07-14Malkin Bowl - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

I see Blue Rodeo each time they come to Vancouver and have been doing that for several years now. Each time I love them more! I especially love the Malkin Bowl venue in Stanley Park as the music fills the park. When there is a full moon...even better! This year I had row 7 far left and unfortunately there were a number of people constantly getting up and dancing in front of our seats, which totally blocked our view and definitely took away from the overall experience I usually enjoy. A number of people complained to the security and the security people were fairly diligent trying to get the oblivious dancers to dance off to the side, however the whole ongoing commotion of that was very very distracting. I would definitely go back to Malkin Bowl, but in hopes of a better seating plan designed for the paying customers to actually get the full Blue Rodeo experience!

  • Blue Rodeo-never a disappointment

by Lyndele on 2009-07-14Malkin Bowl - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Awesome band. Can relate to all ages, as all ages were there and enjoying the concert. Malkin Bowl is a little too strict with the rules, and trying to use the washrooms that were on a slanted hill was a bit of a challenge, but it was a very well organized concert. Should have a little more signage though as we didnt know where we were going.

  • Just the way you should spend a summer evening!

by Sophie on 2009-07-14Malkin Bowl - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

This is a concert I don't miss. Every summer, usually in August, this year in June, we spent the evening in Stanley Park at Malkin Bowl with Blue Rodeo on stage. This is the perfect venue for this concert, laid back, and casual, just like the band. Watching the float planes fly overhead as they make their way to the harbour. As the sun sets through the tall trees and the dragonflies are whizzing through the crowd, people are enjoying the music of one of the best bands around. Thanks Blue Rodeo, for making this a summer tradition in Vancouver.

  • Malkin Bowl Experience

What can I say, Vancouver and my favourite guy....Jim Cuddy! It was a great venue, so serene in Stanley Park at the Malkin Bowl! Blue Rodeo was super and because it was a smaller venue, very intimate. I loved the classy way the band is inviting the opening act and local singer to jam/sing with them...it it great they promote new talent always! Can't wait to see Blue Rodeo again...let's count, must be at about 15 concerts so far!! Wendell

  • Blue Rodeo was consistently fantastic!

I would highly recommend anyone seeing this show. They are amazing performers and musicians. We saw them at Malkin Bowl a couple of years ago and I didn't think I could have enjoyed the show anymore, but I did. It's wonderful seeing people of all ages at their show!

  • I heart Blue Rodeo!

Exactly what you'd expect from such a consistently great band.

  • Blue Rodeo - stellar, as usual

by indigosoul on 2009-07-14Malkin Bowl - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Great concert. Loved Jeremy Fisher - great energy and excellent stage presence. The girl that they had come up and sing (can't remember her name) had an incredible voice.

  • great night

The venue was intimate and a great location on a summer night. Some preassigned seating, some seating on the grass. Sound was great. Played thier great songs.

  • Blue Rodeo is a favourite and never disappoints!!

This is the third time I have had the chance to enjoy Blue Rodeo at the Malkin Bowl. It is a great setting. They put on a fantastic show with the leaders, Greg Keelor and Jim Cuddy, doing the singing. The background musicians are equally impressive. I have always found many of their songs to have a very romantic flavour and I am sure I will be back again next year with my partner.

  • Blue Rodeo Rocks!

    by candygirl300 on 2009-07-14Malkin Bowl - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

My first time seeing Blue Rodeo at the Malkin Bowl....it was fantastic. If you're an avid Blue Rodeo fan or would like a great evening out, check them out. They mentioned about coming around later this fall with a new album, so your chance might happen soon. It was a great night!

Second time I have seen Blue Rodeo in Malkin and it was better than the first. Everyone should see Blue Rodeo play in this beautiful outdoor location.

  • Blue Rodeo was awesome!!!!!

by Miss on 2009-07-14Malkin Bowl - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I would definately recommend seeing them. I hadn't heard quite a few of the tunes, but they were immediately catchy. They sounded great, and had some great openers who also sang a few songs with them. Malkin bowl was especially awesome, the acoustics at an outdoor venue are the best.

  • Highly recommended

by Babsy on 2009-07-14Malkin Bowl - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Blue Rodeo was fabulous and entertaining. The sound was excellent, and the guys in the band were like I remember them 10 years ago. They played all their hits. It was a beautiful hot summer night and the perfect place to be for an ouside concert in Malkin Bowl. I think the Malkin Bowl stage needs a paint job or update of some sort.

  • Fantastic as usual!

It doesn't matter how many times I have seen them, I never get bored watching Blue Rodeo. They put on a great show! You can tell they really enjoy what they do and appreciate their audiences. I'll go every year if I can. I love them!

  • Blue Rodeo...what an experience!!!

by Quinto on 2009-07-14Malkin Bowl - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I absolutely loved Blue Rodeo's concert at the Malkin Bowl. It was my first time at this venue, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. I had seen them at the Orpheum, but loved this venue even better. The weather was perfect and the setting was more intimate. Would absolutely recommend people go if they haven't been to see them here. I understand they come every year in the summer. I will be seeing them again next year for sure!!!

  • Amazing experience!
