    Cockburn does it again

by Gmichael on 2011-04-03The Banff Centre - Eric Harvie Theatre - Banff

Bruce Cockburn proves once again that he is an icon of Canadian music. As a premier Guitarist, poetic vocalist, and story teller his music speaks right to edge of your senses and shows you the path of his life. Backed up by a wonderful band and great staging, this is an experience not to miss.

    Classic Bruce

by Anonymous on 2011-04-03Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Though the concert was longer than expected, Bruce was nothing short of fantastic. Jenny and Gary were like the cherries on top of the homemade chocolate cake that is the legend of Bruce Cockburn. Unforgettable!

    Excellent musicians at work

by Bodine on 2011-04-02The Banff Centre - Eric Harvie Theatre - Banff

1 guitarist/vocalist, 1 violinist/vocalist, and 1 percussionist, filling a 1000-seat venue with excellent sounds. Bruce was as solid as ever. Some new tunes in conjunction with violinist Jenny Scheinman were very intriguing... taking the listener on a real trip. The way live music should be. Well done! The music was excellent, albeit tending to a bit too mellow in some back-to-back songs. Essentially, the only weak spots were: 1) The fairly crowded seating of the Eric Harvie Theatre...just not enough room to get fully comfortable in the seat. 2) A relatively weak 3-song encore (content, not length). And not playing Coldest Night of the Year. Overall though, a show very well worth seeing.

    Cockburn in Calgary

by Cpackard on 2011-04-02Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Although the much needed audience participation was lacking (fans didn't do the WWTLA chorus must justice) the overall presentation and mix of new and old melody was really well put together. Cockburn event quipped that he would do less talking and more playing, which allowed for a longer setlist and he moderately paced through his new material while throwing in some of his older hits. Kudos to his Violinist and Drummer who together added tremendously to the performance.

    Bruce is still amazing

by overseas on 2011-04-02Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I have seen him solo and with a full band behind him. He makes it work. It is not only him but the people he finds to interput his music for us. This last concert was a mix of old and new. He looked like he was having fun up there as was the audience. It is amazing the sound he generates from three people. Loved the concert and would highly recommend it.

    Bruce's concert was pretty good

by jpven11 on 2011-04-02Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

Obviously Bruce has seen better times, however he is an excellent guitarrist and his lyrics are unforgetable and still current. The other two members of the trio were good and brought "good vibrations to the show"...

Bruce Cockburn: It doesn't get any better.

by meadowlark on 2011-04-01Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

This man marries humble grace with strength and power. He and the other two members of his trio were tight. The music was both complex and stunningly simple. His message is intellectual and emotional; a culmination of his insight into the human condition. The evening came to a perfect close with an opportunity to thank him for his gift when he sat in the lobby signing and chatting with fans. It was a night to remember!

    Cockburn in Calgary - Mar 30 2011

by Oldster on 2011-04-01Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

The concert was very enjoyable. The only thing was that I felt there was a little too much of his violinist and too little Bruce. Enjoyed watching the enthusiasm of this percussionist.

    heaven on earth

by rsee on 2011-04-01Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

I'm having troubles coming back down. The concert was not so much a concert as it was a little trip to heaven........truely, utterly, amazingly unbelievable. As with most "highs", the set back is trying to cope after coming back down to a terrestrial level here on earth. Two days later, I'm still waling around in a stupor not fully here. Forgive me, but Bruce is a saint who turns an ordinary moment into magic. Water into Wine!! What a concert. What a concert.

    Bruce needs a stylist

by smurf453 on 2011-04-01Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

he's an amazing musician however the words to most of the songs were muffled and those I didn't know the lyrics to I couldn't understand. I gasped when he walked out onto the stage. He looked like he had bought his clothing in a thrift store. His version of a black suit was a wrinkled much to long jacket that appeared to be from a tall man's shop (and he can't be more than 5'4") and the pants, ah the wrinkled pants.....they looked to be about 7 sizes too big which made me wonder if they were being held up by his belt. They were too long and he was wearing what appeared to be day hikerson his feet. He's been around a long time and surely he can afford some decent clothing and could have someone in his entourage press them for him before he appears on stage. A professional appearance means a lot.

    thoroughly enjoyable

by newBrucefan on 2011-03-26Kelowna Community Theatre - Kelowna

Jenny Scheinmann, who backed Bruce up was terrific. Her fiddle/violin/mandolin playing abilities are amazing and she was the perfect fit with Bruce and his drummer. Bruce was typical; unmistaken guitar playing and vocals. I'm a new fan!

    Bruce Cockburn was amazing live!

by twoaprilfools on 2011-03-26Kelowna Community Theatre - Kelowna

My husband and I enjoyed every minute of the concert. Bruce is one of the all time best guitar players in Canada.. if not the world! He sounded great live! I loved his interaction with the audience. I am very happy I was finally able to go to one of his concerts. I have been a fan since the beginning. We listen to his music on road trips all over BC all the time. Love his instrumental pieces and also the story telling lyrics in so many of his songs. Thanks for a great night Bruce!

    Wonderful evening - Real Value

by CanadianEnvironmentalist on 2010-06-20Massey Hall - Toronto

The concert was wonderful. Enjoyed Bruce & the special guests - especially the Wailing Jennies, the Barenaked Ladies & Hawsksley Workman - but everyone had something special to offer. Gian Ghomeshi was a great MC. Everyone just looked like they were having so much fun. It was enjoyable to be part of it. And they went on an extra hour (and no one - performers or audience - wanted to leave. The only negative were the lumpy seats of Massey Hall. Last year, we sat in the hard wooden seats and I looked down longingly at the upholstered seats. Found out this year, they weren't much better.

    Canadian Songbook

    by biggs2 on 2010-06-17Massey Hall - Toronto

If I had been able to hear the voices of the vocalists it might have been enjoyable, but the accoustical guitars overshadowed any chance of appreciating the singing. Sylvia, Amelia, Wailin' Jennys were drowned out and the volume of the guitars was horrendous. One could only hope to lip read. I was going to leave at intermission, but stayed, as things improved with Hawksley Workman, who was fantastic and a couple of nice ones from Bruce.
