About

Cage the Elephant is a powerhouse rock and roll band from Bowling Green, Kentucky, that combines blues, classic rock, and funk into an eclectic and raucously fun sound. They formed in 2006 and signed to Relentless Records after playing the 2007 South by Southwest music festival. The band’s self-titled debut studio album was released in 2008 to commercial and critical success, spawning singles “Free Love,” “In One Ear,” and the hit “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked,” catapulting the band into the UK and US mainstream. Their sophomore album Thank You, Happy Birthday reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart with singles “Shake Me Down” and “Around My Head.” Cage the Elephant toured relentlessly for ticket holders in 2009 and 2010, opening for Foo Fighters, Manchester Orchestra, Silversun Pickups and Stone Temple Pilots. Their third studio album Melophobia came out in October 2013 on RCA Records with the single “Come a Little Closer,” opening up their sound with alt-rock and punk textures. They will finish out the year in concert with their high-octane and kinetic live show in support of Muse.

Great opening act with Portugal the Man and then Cage the Elephant was awesome. Both bands gave tight, high energy performances. Would love to see either band again.

The Elephant is uncaged and the world is next!

by Zot123 on 2016-05-11International Centre - Hall 5 (Formerly The Arrow Hall) - Mississauga

This will be the last time Caged the Elephant plays is a venue this size. Yes, there was a great crowd but the band has outgrown poor lighting and sound (sorry but true) Cage the Elephant is so dynamic on stage and tight with the instrumentation. I think the only reason they are not playing 20,000 seat arenas is that most of their songs have done well but they do not have the mega hit that is requrired to sell out. Shame on you! They remind me of early Rolling Stones when it was non stop kick ass rock'n'roll....but dare I say BETTER!

    Great show

by OldManDon on 2016-05-11International Centre - Hall 5 (Formerly The Arrow Hall) - Mississauga

As always, Cage The Elephant put on an amazing show. The band has always been very crafty in putting together the play list to please everyone in the crowd. The only reason I didn't put a 5-star rating is due to the venue & its accessibility.

    Just alright

by kingfisher on 2016-05-11International Centre - Hall 5 (Formerly The Arrow Hall) - Mississauga

Was quite suspicious that the singer was not actually singing to some or possibly all of the songs. Not a lip sync fan. I did however enjoy the warm up band from Alaska, I think they called themselves poncho the man.

Weak performance and rediculoiusly short set.

by trilifeordie on 2013-12-23Sound Academy - Toronto

Having seen CTE open for the black keys and loving it i was really looking forward to this gig. I was sadly disappointing by the lack of energy from the band and you could feel it in the crowd. They seemed tired and uninvolved in the whole show. You would expect that a band with that many albums to draw from could play for more than 60 mins. I'm glad i was able to catch the Pack AD who killed it as always!

    Insane Concert! But surprisingly short.

    by DannyG123 on 2013-12-22Sound Academy - Toronto

Everything about the concert was amazing! The only complaint I have ( which is why this review is only 4 stars) is that their set was WAY TOO SHORT. Their set lasted maybe an hour and a half. It was definitely less than 2 hours. This was really disappointing since they were soo good that I didn't want them to stop. Besides the short set, The concert was insane! Everyone should definitely go if they get the chance.

    Really great energy

by MattSeattle on 2010-06-19Showbox at the Market - Seattle

They had really good energy. However, their vocals are pretty terrible, since the lead singer is busy head banging the whole time. Maybe it just wasn't my type of music. I really enjoyed their 3 singles: In One Ear, Back Against the Wall, and Ain't No Rest for the Wicked.

Cage the elephant was a shot of awesome!!

by moonraze on 2010-03-21The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Cage the elephant was an awesome show!! The band had tons of energy especially the lead singer who would constantly dive into the crowd and crowdsurf while singing!! It was pretty badazz, and the singers exit from stage was crazy. The opening band as tall as lions was also totally epic :)

Cage the Elephant Rocked my World!!!!

by DudeChick on 2010-03-18The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

I haven't been to a show, especially a good one in a while and wasn't quite sure what to expect, I had never been to The Pheonix before either and had no idea what it was like. Any expectations I did have for Cage the Elephant were blown away! I can honestly say that was one of the best shows I have ever been to! I was rockin out the whole time and everyone around me was doin the same! The real kicker was after the sweet encore Matt Shultz the lead singer crowd surfed to the back of venue and climbed up the balcony! Needless to say it was a performance I will not soon forget and will proudly display the t-shirt I had to buy!

    Cage Doesn't Disaapoint.

by clifford67 on 2010-03-14The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

The intense energy that frontman Matt provides during the show adds to the tight backing of the musicians. Matt spends time shaking, convulsing and crowd surfing while singing, not missing a beat. The music was great, venue was perfect for the show. A must see.

    Cage rocked The Phoenix

by lynnchick on 2010-03-13The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Cage sounded really good. Very energetic performance from everyone. Matt did alot of body surfing in the audience. One time he surfed to the back of the audience....climbed up a rope....and came over the 2nd floor balcony....cool ! Would have liked the show to have lasted longer but they have a limited selection. They could have done or redone someone else' songs to add to the concert, but maybe thats not their thing.

    Cage The Elephant

by Anonymous on 2010-03-11The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Matt Shultz put on such a great show! He was crowd surfing and diving into the crowd which engaged the crowd so much. The energy was amazing! Ive never had so much fun at a show before. I've been to a lot of concerts but Cage The Elephant was by far the best I've seen.

    No He Did Not!

by cMartBlues on 2010-03-11The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

I was fortunate enough to catch Cage the Elephant when they came 'round as an opening act for the Silversun Pickups, and though I was impressed with that show it left me wanting more. After seeing Cage the Elephant perform a full set as the headliner that little part of my life is complete. Matthew Shultz, lead vocals, has this crazy twitchy and contagious energy during his performance that just radiates through the crowd. The songs were all tight and the set was incredible and if you're into the alt or blues rock scene they are a must see.

    Cage Kicks Punk @ss!

by illtown on 2010-03-11The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Many a band rely on the smoke and mirrors of an elaborate stage show. With Cage who needs it! - they let their instruments do the talking. Somebody let Matt Shultz out of a 'cage' and he didn't stop til all the fluid was drained from his body - which was probably sometiime after the show ended! He threw himself into the crowd with reckless abandon at least 5 times while still belting out the lyrics and enjoying the super-grops from the frenzied fans up front. Great rhythm section and the guitars churned non-stop to the ballistic punk infused end. The only downside was their lack of original material. I enjoyed some of the old punk covers but they lost some of the crowd through those. Looking forward to the next round with some new material - if Matt Shultz survives himself that is! Ain't no rest for the wicked Matt.
