  • Incredible talent, venue wasn’t my favorite.

by Char on 2025-12-02WinSport Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

As always, the Calgary Philharmonic was absolutely incredible. This performance was at WinSport, which was just fine for sound. The floor seating however was not organized. No row numbers on the end of the rows left many people lost and confused as to where there seats were located without guidance from available ushers. There was a lineup coming down the stairs until 10 minutes into the performance so was very distracting with the loud steps in the venue. But, the actual performance, amazing as always.

  • An incredible experience

What a way to introduce my son to the magic of the philharmonic! Set in a "come as you want"setting it was lovely to see everything from suits and gowns, to christmas sweaters, to people in between their weekend activities. The music was spectacular and made a timeless classic all the more enjoyable. The addition of the choir made the scenes come up life. I can't wait to attend another great event!

  • Wonderful music, hockey rink vibe

by Kj on 2025-12-02WinSport Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

As always the CPO and U of C chorus (surprise!) was an amazingly delightful experience for all ages. So fascinating for the kids to see the “REAL” music to one of their favorite all-time films. This year the event was held at Winsport. Easy parking with many attendants for guidance as you enter. Unfortunately the atmosphere offered by the “hockey arena” venue led to a far more casual atmosphere - which disappointed me for the experience of “going to the symphony.” There were people walking, and kids running, and carts of concession type supplies going back and forth close behind us on the upper level - it was constant and made it hard to hear and enjoy. Our seats were a few rows from the top and adjacent to a concession stand. The concession stand was making popcorn for the ENTIRETY of the first half, and part of the second half. Constant popping and chatter. The remainder of the second half was entirely consumed with someone shoveling ice - I assume from one bin to another. It continued for at least half an hour … maybe 45 mins. Digging the shovel into the ice bucket and dropping the ice into another bin. The gentleman behind us did go ask them to stop with the popcorn popping in the first half and they said they would - but nothing changed. We went to an afternoon performance, and the venue did a decent job of darkening the room- black curtains on the main levels to block light from the doors etc. However we were opposite the main entrance and there was an upper level - boxes or suites - and they all had open doors at the back and there was broad daylight going straight in our eyes from across the venue. It was an unfortunate oversight as it affected the movie viewing and ambience - but would only have affected the audience across from it. When the performance was over - half the building stood up and exited during the film credits - and not waiting for the CPO to finish and to applaud them as I believe they would in a formal theatre. In some ways the casual venue may make it easier for people to go and feel comfortable with smaller children - but for the price and type of event I was strongly disappointed with the atmosphere of Winsport. We attended last year at the Jubilee and it felt far more of a special treat and Christmas event - and there were none of those detracting factors. And still plenty of children of there! Unfortunately this event felt less special and memorable for my family - but all of that came from the type of venue. Again the music and CPO were top notch and I’m so grateful that they do these concerts making it accessible and enthralling for youth (and their parents!).

  • A Magical Start to the Christmas Season!

by Meg on 2025-12-02WinSport Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Highly recommend watching all of your favorite movies with the Phil Harmonic Orchestra! It's like watching in a theater again with incredible music to accompany your experience. Home Alone was the perfect start to this holiday season!

  • Great show

by Goldenjeffears on 2025-12-02WinSport Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

This was a great show and at times the music was so good you forgot that there was musicians playing. I would have enjoyed the show even more if it was at a smaller venue where you could not only hear the music but feel the music. I didn’t understand why people started leaving when the movie was finished. We’re not here for the movie we’re here for the music. Thanks to the musicians.

  • Great performance, bad location

by BevB on 2025-12-02WinSport Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

The sound and performance by the Philharmonic and Singers were excellent. I understand this is the first time Winsport has been used as a venue. It is not a good venue. There is only one road in and one road out so having thousands of attendees trying to find parking is not great. The venue itself is a fire hazard. The hundreds of people with floor seats had 2 small staircases to exit. In the event of a fire, it would have been chaotic and potentially tragic.

  • A truly memorable night!

by Leo on 2025-12-02WinSport Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

The performance & atmosphere was truly impeccable. Certainly did John Williams' score justice and brought the movie to life! The choir and bonus Christmas carol at the end was a nice touch 😊 Thank you for a memorable night!

  • Great music

by Danielle on 2025-12-02WinSport Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

The show and performance were excellent, but the venue was not. Having so many people on the floor, and charging more for these tickets, people can not see the movie screen as well as the stadium seats. Also the floor seats only had two exits up and out of the stadium. Seems like chaos if there were an emergency exit needed.

  • Great event, Venue wasn't as good as usual

by KevinMc on 2025-12-02WinSport Event Centre - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

We like to see the Symphony Christmas movie every year to kick off the holiday season. This event has always been at the Jubilee Auditorium. The event was changed to WinSport this year which was not an improvement. The screen was small and far away, and the volume of the movie could have been louder. The entrance aisle to the floor seating was beside our seats, so we were unable to see the first 15 mins of the movie as there was a steady stream of late people blocking our view and they shuffled down to their seats. Near the end of the movie, there was a steady stream of people leaving early blocking our view again. We were unsure how well the symphony would sound in a hockey arena, but they sounded great! The addition of a choir was great!

  • Home Alone Philharmonic

Such a fantastic showing. The movie is incredible and a Christmas classic but add on the philharmonic and wow it was spectacular. Really enjoyed by our whole group.
