Thought performance was below par. Illusions were very amateurish.

  • Disjointed Variety Show

by Amanda on 2020-02-27Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

The Jubilee Auditorium is one of the best art facilities in Calgary, which attracts very talented and thought-provoking shows and artists. Celtic Illusion had an identity crisis. It wasn't sure if it was a magic show, a dancing show or a general performing arts show. Unfortunately the "illusions" were extremely basic, and often had technical issues which took away from any wow-factor. The singer and flutist that were often placed between dance numbers were not at the same caliber as the dancers that people had come to see, so unfortunately left the whole show feeling a bit like a variety show. It was also clearly not meant to be a singing show, because the singers vocals and backing track sounded unclear and with static. The only thing worth watching was the dancing talent, which unfortunately wasn't consistently strong throughout. While I loved the whole thing in concept, the execution felt like a poor-man's Lord of the Dance.

  • Well done!

Was very impressive with some great illusions! The dancing was wonderful and had a nice mix of costumes and Styles. I liked the variety of acts, eg, flutist, violinist, dancing, singing, illusions. The singer was ok but a little underwhelming for me. Overall worth seeing!

  • Ok, but no wow factor

by Cynnamon on 2020-02-27Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

The quality of dancing was really good, but the overall performance was lacking any excitement or wow moments, and the sound was not good, you could tell very easily that it was not the sound of the dancers shoes that you were hearing it was a soundtrack. The singer was very good, but something more needed to be added to her performance like maybe a couple dancing in the background or more magic tricks. The violin and flute players were again very good, but needed something more then them just standing on an empty stage. And lastly the magic tricks were well done but basic and not tied into the overall performance very well.

These dancers were amazing with their foot work. Violin and flute music players were so good. Love the illusions that were performed. Best show ever.

There was not many illusions. The dancing was great but the rest of the show was not what we expected

  • Somewhat disappointed

The dancing was amazing!!! The singer seemed off her game. The illusions were average and I didn’t even work. The musicians were very talented.

Really enjoyed the show. Thought there might have been more illusions and magic, but the dancing and the synchronized movement was spot on!
