Don't often get a lineup this stacked

by Mycle on 2012-02-28Sound Academy - Toronto

Amazing, always a good time, loved Threat Signal, was blown away by Eluvietie and Bodom, well, they did what they always do! Tshirts selling for the same price as admission was a little much though!

Best show I've seen in the last year

by Exploder on 2011-07-05Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

The opening band Septicflesh was pretty good for death metal but I found Obscura to be very overrated. Devin Townsend seemed like he would have been good if his mike and guitar had not been so low. Bodom on the other hand, was perfect. And while I heard many people say they weren't going to stay for COB, the moshpit was never more packed or active during the night, and I didn't see Obscura doing an encore! All in all a great show that also made me laugh at the people who tried to badmouth Bodom.

Cool venue , but the sound was terrible. I saw new bands I never heard of that aren't my taste but were cool to see and experience.

    Devin Townsend was surreal

by Monkmaster on 2011-07-01Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

First and foremost, I did not stay for Children of Bodom. Not only have their recent releases been abysmal compared to their earlier records, they wanted 40 bucks for a T-shirt. No thanks. To my surprise, Obscura opened the show and played a great set as usual. This was my third time seeing them and the one thing I love about Obscura is their consistency. Each album is as good as the last and their shows NEVER disappoint. Like Obscura, it was also my third time seeing Septic Flesh. Unlike Obscura, it was the worst of their three performances I've witnessed. It could be because most attendees were Bodom fans that Septic Flesh did not experience a lot of crowd energy. As well, I found the four tracks they played from their new album are hard to listen to live. Lots of starting and stopping, and an orchestral metal band such as them, they should really have a live symphonic band along with them. When Devin Townsend came on stage, the place exploded. He opened the show with 'Supercrush!', from Addicted!, and I could tell he hooked everyone in, even as far as the back balconies. Although only tracks from the newest of the four album DTP quadrilogy were played, the musicianship and especially Devin's vocals were mesmerizing.

Metal night: noise, structure, and charisma.

by Anders on 2011-07-01Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Watched COB for the second time at the Commodore Ballroom. The highlight of the night, however, was clearly Devin Townsend, whose on-stage presence is insane and very theatrical and funny - loved every minute of it. Septicflesh was a nice surprise, to the point where I bought their CD. They are tight and dynamic and manage to do that thing that most metal bands forget: in order to appear fast, heavy and hard-core, you've got to contrast it with some calm, quiet anticipation, and some clarity! The wall of noise and random rhythm changes and dissonant chords that often accompany metal bands is tiring, and seem immature. Think early Maiden - Murders in the Rue Morgue (old song, I know) for example - all anticipation, then the greatest release in the transition from intro to verse - that's what makes good metal. Septicflesh got this - the really fast stuff was interspersed with moments of conversation and slow beats - it resonated really well in the somewhat echo'ey Commodore venue. COB themselves need to work on their audience skills - I can't think of another band I'd least like to go for a beer with after the show. Also, that keyboard thing is *tacky* - I don't see its pull at all.

This was the first show that I attended at the Commodore since moving to Vancouver, and what an impression it left. As soon as I reached the top of the stairs, I took a quick look around, listened closely and instantly started headbanging along to Obscura, who put on one hell of a show. Then Septicflesh took to the stage, and I headbanged even harder. They went off stage and at that point, I was fully ready for Children of Bodom. But there was still another performer, by the name of Devin Townsend. Before going to the show, I knew who Devin Townsend was and that he was a Metal Legend in his own right.. But had never actually listened to his music before. His animated and comical stage presence, along with his full on metal riffs and Ronnie James Dio-like voice was the perfect opener for my Finnish idols. Bodom hit the stage and do I need to say more? They killed it, as always. Two days later, and my face is still a little melted.

    Bodem's the Best !

by Sloke on 2009-11-13Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

Went to the Children of Bodem show on October 3rd in Edmonton and they did not disappoint. This was my first time seeing them play but I've been a fan since 1997. By far, the best show I've seen in years.

    Seriously amazing

by shewolf on 2009-10-06Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

AMAZING. I have seen Children of Bodom 3 times now and this was by FAR the BEST show ive seen. Definitley one of the best concerts ive been to! Opening act Skeletonwitch was pretty stellar! They rocked it and their stage presence was pretty amazing, I really enjoyed their show. Black Dahlia Murder was up next and they didnt really wow me, they were alright but I thought Skeletonwitch did a much better show. COB was intense! They played alot of different songs from every album and they were just pumped to be there and you could tell! I cant wait until they come back again and I hope they play at the Commodore again, it defintley is an awesome spot to watch your favorite bands up close!

    Children of Old School Bodom!

    by HighTide420 on 2009-10-06Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Children of bodom played a sick show in front of a packed commodore ballroom. They aimed to please the fans by playing all their greatest hits from their older albums including Silent Night Bodom Night, Follow The Reaper, Hate Me, Lake Bodom into Bodom After Midnight. For a long time bodom fan, this was the most I could have asked for. Alexi Laiho blows you away with his soloing ability, and the rest of the band follows with a tight full force metal attack.
