CHRIS ISAAK IN CONCERT:

When it comes to rock heartthrobs, iconic crooner Chris Isaak is the standard by which all other artists should be judged. Silky voice and shimmering guitar tones? Check. Baby blue eyes and lustrous pompadour? Check. Enough charm and charisma to swindle you out of your savings? Blank check. Starting with his 1985 debut, Isaak has consistently backed up his good looks with serious chops as a performer, and his 2014 tour dates should be no different. Whether he's breaking hearts with "Wicked Game" or casually chatting with his audience, Isaak's talent and magnetism always make for an unforgettable concert experience.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born to a blue-collar California family, Isaak was a high achiever from an early age, serving as student body president of his high school and graduating as class valedictorian. He signed to Warner Bros. in 1984, making his album debut the following year with Silvertone, a moderate success. His self-titled 1986 sophomore album fared similarly, but 1989's Heart Shaped World was a breakout hit, catapulting him to international fame with the steamy single "Wicked Game." Following a string of popular albums released in the '90s, Isaak had a successful run hosting his own talk show The Chris Isaak Show from 2001-2004. On tour once again in 2014, Isaak will treat fans to classics from his decade-spanning catalog as rumors swirl about the possibility of new material on the not-so-distant horizon.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Chris Isaak was, as usual, wonderful to watch, a delight to listen to, and fun, fun, fun. I love the way he works his way through the audience and interacts with as many people as he can. He is witty and shares stories."

"Chris is one of the best performers around. He really involves the audience in the show and you feel like you are participating - not just viewing."

"Chris played almost non-stop for a full two hours. He's an excellent showman: he did most of his well-known songs and joked with the audience. Great sense of humor and a beautiful voice."

    by Carla69 on 2009-08-02Casino Rama - Orillia

My husband & I had so much fun! What an enjoyable, warm & intimate experience. Very talented band, loved hearing and seeing all the different guitars and when Chris came out into the audience. And Chris' voice, well, that was just enough to melt everyone in the place. Amazing to hear him sing live. I felt all the songs right down to my soul. Oh, and he's funny, too! It was like getting to hang out with a friend who could play the guitar. A very talented friend.... Loved it and thank-you so much for the memories! P.S. I'm turning 40 at the end of this year and that would be a GREAT gift to see him again (hint, hint).

part rock/music, part stand up comedy, this show kicked major Friday Night ass!! Chris Isaak is a tru blue blood American entertainer, very underrated in my opinion, capacity was short a couple of dozens, well worth the $$$ and the long drive, been a fan since '87

Like a fine red wine, Chris gets better with age!

by Cello on 2009-08-01Casino Rama - Orillia

Chris has charisma, humour and a voice that stills melts the heart - even after all these years. The band was tight, hard-working, and full of energy, charming the crowd and never taking themselves too seriously. A solid performance of old and new songs that left me wondering why I haven't seen him in concert sooner. Like a fine red wine, or your favourite pair of jeans - Chris Isaak gets better with age!!

by nanook on 2009-08-01Casino Rama - Orillia

Ive done Rama 7 times so far this year. Some good ones, even some great ones. Chris Isaak is a pure entertainer, a consummate pro. Whole band r pros. I was impressed by the energy, the professioanlsm and even the humour. One funny dude. He had the audience at his mercy all thetime. Opening tune was energy and set the mood for the rest of the show. Had audience participation too. Folks fell in love right away. Then some tributes also. Id go back and see again tomorrow. An absolute great buy for the money. Nice to have pure positive surprises. Chris Isaak rules!! Thanks for bringing him in. I cant wait for the next appearance. Id be first in line.

    Classic Chris

    by rocket76 on 2009-08-01Casino Rama - Orillia

Thoroughly enjoyed Chris Isaak last night at Casino Rama. It was great to see an audience filled with both old and new CI fans. I think one of his enduring qualities is his ability to laugh at both himself and the audience. We very much enjoyed the smaller venue and everyone agreed the sound, the music and the presentation was top notch. Bets wishes Chris on your music and tour!!! Casino Rama, congrats and keep bringing the quality shows that we enjoy so much!!

    Chris Isaak

by RichDeathrisk on 2009-08-01Casino Rama - Orillia

Opening his concert with the autobiographical theme song from his cult classic TV show, "American Boy" Chris Isaak set the tone for the show that was to follow. Just like the sadly missed television show, last night's concert at Orillia's Casino Rama was funny, clever, witty, charming, musically spectacular, and just an all-around good time. Isaak's "aw shucks" banter revealed him to be funnier in real life than his scripted character on the show. His interaction with the audience, including an extensive two-song stroll through the crowd, and an invitation for a young lady to dance on stage with Roland Salley, his "deep in the pocket" bass player, delighted the fans. Chris Isaak IS an original American boy, and he brings a feeling of warmth and nostalgia for a time when that meant something good and wholesome. Isaak is an icon of the good, clean stuff...California surfing, sock hops, heartfelt love, and rock n roll. He and his band "Silvertone" brought that vibe to Rama's cavernous auditorium in a show that was musically flawless, and visually stunning. Playing all of his favourites, such as "Blue Hotel", "Wicked Game" and "Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing" as well as several tracks from his new release "Mr. Lucky" Isaaks voice was awe inspiring. Not just for the tremendous range and perfect pitch, but also for the tone and emotion he's able to convey with it. Many of his songs employ repetitive lyrical phrases. In his live performance, one is able to feel the subtle nuances as he changes the meaning of a repeated phrase, by virtue of slight shifts in intonation and delivery. One could argue, however, that the vocal highlight of the night came during a heartfelt tribute to Isaak's mentor, Roy Orbison. Few singers would have the pipes or the courage to tackle the classic "Only the Lonely" but Isaak nailed the piece with angelic perfection. Texas drummer Kenny Dale Johnson kept the band tightly laced together, as he, Salley, and percussionist Rafael Padilla provided solid rhythm and backing vocals, along with keyboardist Scotty Plunkett. Special mention must be made of guitarist extrordinaire, Hershel Yatovitz. From subtle jazz runs that would rival Lenny Breau, to searing solos that would shame Eddie Van Halen, this man can play guitar! The concert ended as the TV show always did. Everybody happy, feeling good and satisfied. Chris and the band provided great entertainment. Excellent music, great singing, beautiful songs, witty reparte, and of course, lots of sequins, and a mirror ball suit.

    Chris Isaak Never Dissapoints!

by Silvertonefan on 2009-08-01Casino Rama - Orillia

I've now seen Mr. Isaak and Silvertone in concert eight times over the past twenty two years, starting with Molson Park in Barrie where he opened for the Thompson Twins and again last night at Casino Rama! I believe him to be one of the premier performers on tour today. Aside from his music , which I've always loved, he has a warm and wonderful stage presence engaging the audience with great success. I'd travel a very long way and pay double the price to experience one of his shows.

Where did all you people come from??

by Msforksandknives on 2009-08-01Casino Rama - Orillia

Chris Isaak is the most gracious entertainer! Every show makes you feel like you stepped into Chris's living room for a night of fun! Jokes, stories and glittery jackets always steal the show. Great new album with fun songs and the usual 'boy meets girl and still ends up with a broken heart' songs too! Having driven 3 hours on a Friday night of the long weekend to Rama, we would have appreciated a few more songs, but at almost 2 hours straight, we totally got our fix of Chris Issak. Hopefully he'll make his way to Toronto one of these days.....
