Ten years ago, Greg Gonzalez was having a really rough Valentine's Day. Freshly heartbroken with no hope of reconciliation, he spent two hours driving from his hometown El Paso to play a show, and he listened to Sade's "By Your Side" on repeat both ways. "The experience that day stuck in my bones--it was an idea that I couldn't forget," says Gonzalez, the frontman of Cigarettes After Sex. "I thought, how do I make a record that feels like that?"
Filled with raw, imagistic, sometimes smutty vignettes set to entrancing, slowburn pop songs, Gonzalez knows how to capture every emotion a romantic arc inspires. But where previous albums have drawn from an amalgam of relationships, for the most part, his anticipated third album 'X's' centralizes on just one relationship that spanned four years. "The record feels brutal," admits Gonzalez. "I could sit and talk about this loss to someone, but that wouldn't scratch the surface. I have to really write about it, sing about it, have the music, and then I can start to analyze and learn from it. Or just relive it--in a good way. I don't have that Eternal Sunshine-thing of wanting to forget."
This period was one of immense personal growth for Gonzalez, but it was also during these years that Cigarettes After Sex--completed by drummer Jacob Tomsky and bassist Randall Miller--hit staggering new levels in their career, transitioning from a preeminent indie act to one of the most globally accomplished acts across any genre.
And still, Cigarettes After Sex maintain their mystique, fans sharing their music like an illicit secret and this poignant ten song collection will certainly stoke the flames. While continuing to observe classic pop song structures, Gonzalez has moved away from the prior sonic touchstones of the '50s and '60s, finding himself now drawn to a '70s/'80s slow dance. While (in typical Cigarettes style) these changes may be subtle, the overall resulting energy is akin to disco ball-refracted tears on the dance floor.
concert itself was great albeit on the shorter side, minimalistic in terms of stage props but smoke and lighting were used very well. sounds just like the recordings. purchasing experience on ticketmaster was average, nothing to really write about, about what youd expect from ticketmaster
it was so fun! everyone look wonderful and they were all really nice, the speaker, lighs, sound quality was soooo good. the merch line is kinda long tho so, i had to leave mid song to get somethinf but overall the concert was amazing!!!!

Although I love live music, this wasn't my favourite concert ever. The band didn't really move around or change the lighting the whole show. While the crowd was excited and knew the songs, we were sitting down- why? The songs, of course, were fantastic, but the lack of movement diminished the show. I could have listened to them in my bedroom for a lot less money. They didn't talk to the crowd at all- it was like they didn't even know where they were playing.
CAS sound even better live. The performance was mesmerizing and the venue was perfect!
The concert was okay. A bit short in my opinion. The singer barely spoke to the audience. The sound was not great in the area I was sitting (balcony). Other than that, it was great to see them live.
The venue was so nice as well as the music! Absolutely LOVED seeing my favourite band live! Will 100% be going to the next event that comes to Vancouver :)
Greg had an amazing voice and the instrumental sounds were excellent as well.
The acoustic is the best in this venue. The performance was outstanding and gave you the perfect experience of musical delight

The concert was pretty lame In all honesty. They stood pretty still on stage. They barely spoke to us. They didn’t introduce any of the members. The vocals were sort of hard to hear over the loud instruments. The only things that they said were a very quick hello after two songs, they introduced a couple songs and a goodbye. We love you and that was it. It felt as if they just wanted to play and leave. They were a half an hour late which wasn’t that big of a deal but they only played it for a 1 hour 15 mins there was no openers. It was just boring. The crowd wasn’t that involved and they weren’t even trying to get us involved. In all honesty, I would recommend saving your money unless you’re a mega fan.

I went to the Toronto 2022 concert and the History venue. It was the best night of my life ! I went alone. Got front row. The atmosphere, the ambience, the band, everything was perfect. It sounded and felt like a beautiful dream. The venue was super nice and they did thorough security checks before you entered ! I will be going to C.A.S concerts every chance I get! It was perfect and I wish I could live that night over and over again! It was so beautiful and they sounded even better live! They played all my favourite songs ! I saw comments saying they were unaware they needed I.D but it was made clear that you need to check the venue to make sure if it’s 19+ and the venue said it was 19+ and you needed i.D there were multiple reminders from both the venue website and ticket website. As well as the workers at the venue reminding people while they were lined up ! This was my first concert ever and I loved every moment of it ! Greg’s voice is incredible and the ambience of the concert mixed with the atmospheric music and enchanting vocals really makes you escape into another world and it’s a super peaceful and sweet concert to be at. It’s not super loud and crazy and chaotic so you can really just enjoy the music. It was a 10/10 experience with zero complaints :) well ! My dad might say otherwise! He wasn’t too impressed seeing the band name 🤣! But i had the best time !:) it was the final concert of the tour I believe but they gave their full effort in the performance! Thank you so much C.A.S for a beautiful performance and an amazing experience! Will be going to your concerts every chance I get ! :)

Went to the toronto concert with a friend, and was not disappointed in the slightest. Everything from the setlist to the lights to the vocals were amazing.. My only con was the concert was slightly short - maybe only an hour and 10mins? But all in all, it was well worth the ticket price!
amazing ban, amazing performance the venue was not properly ventilated, it was so crowded, so hot, hard to catch a breath. would've loved to enjoy CAS in a better place
There was no advanced notice to bring the id. Many people were stuck outside the performance. The securities have bad attitude. They said they have notice us in advance, I ask them when did u tell? They said “we told you in person, like 30 minutes ago.” But I lived like 40 km away from Toronto. Really bad experience.
