This is my third Cirque, having seen Corteo and Alegria previously. I would put Quidam in the middle of the two at 3.5 (Average, but Recommended anyway), with Corteo at 5 stars and Alegria at 2.
There were some truly inspiring acts, including the Statue (body balancing), which was a completely stunning display of human strength and beauty. Others worthy of high praise were the Aerial Contortion in Silk, the Aerial Hoops and the German Wheel. The Hand Balancing was also excellent - although because of our amazing seats (floor, front row, centre stage), it left me feeling like I had just had a lap dance! A much different perspective to be that close! I recommend getting "up close & personal" seats to at least ONE Cirque to really appreciate the makeup, muscles and moxie of the performers!
As for the rest, a combination of the usual spool spinning, trapeze, spanish web and jump rope was "lack-lustre" at best. The finale was un-inspiring as the floor staging lacked the capacity for more spectacular acrobatics. The arched upper rigging was amazing and clearly lent itself to aerial work - at front row, the Aerial Hoops were actually directly over our heads as the arch extended to about 15 feet behind us! Even with that amazing technology, they could have done more. Couldn't hold a candle to Corteo's split stage for versatility and high intensity action!
The singing and live music were beautiful and exceeded expectations. The Main Character "John" was absolutely excellent (he was same one as Alegria - this is truly his niche!!). The Clown and the audience participation were fantastic as well and frankly made the show. Just enough to be funny but not so much that it took away from the rest (as did the clowns in Alegria). I really didn't get "BoumBoum" the boxer character, but he played the role very well and was very entertaining. Totally didn't get the other main character (The Target)??
I have yet to see the Vegas shows, so I can't compare to them, but I am sure Corteo would have been in their league. I get that Alegria was more low key as it is a "training" show for new Cirque athletes, so that was understandably lower key.
All in all, I have come to expect more from Cirque than Quidam delivered. If you have never seen a Cirque, then I would recommend this to you as a great show to benchmark your Cirque experience as it is quite "middle of the road". But if you are used to Vegas Cirque, I think you might be disappointed.
