Amazing show ruined by incompetent sound mastering
by Garcia1952 on 2017-03-07Northern Alberta Jubilee - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5Colin James is an incredible guitarist with a great rock and roll voice, he is also one of the hardest working. Song after song morphed into another without a break. He is a great showman, knowing exactly what will thrill his audience as when he descended into the front rows to play directly with his adoring fans. His backup band is excellent, special kudos to the sax players and organ player.
We were seated in the centre left balcony and unfortunately the sound quality was atrocious. The bass was so overpowering it dwarfed Colin's guitar solos. My chest was actually sore from the pounding. The young man next to me thought the person behind him was kicking his chair. He was about to confront them when I mentioned how bad the sound was. It improved slightly in the second half of the concert but was the worst sound management I have ever been subjected to since my days as an avid punk follower. To make matters worse, they would often direct three of the large orange/red spotlights right at our area blinding us for the time they kept them on us, which was considerable. I don't know if the sound quality is always that bad in this venue or just this particular area, or just plain incompetence on the part of whomever was responsible for managing it.
