  • Colin always delivers

by BillG on 2012-11-14Kelowna Community Theatre - KelownaRating: 5 out of 5

Kelowna loves Colin, and the feeling is mutual. Colin always delivers a great performance and backup band, and he didn't disappoint this time around, either.

I was expecting to enjoy a good concert but instead was absolutely blown away by Colin James and his band. His voice, his guitar playing, and his band were so amazing!! I enjoy listening to his music on my ipod but I highly recommend that everyone go and see his stage performances as his many talents are highlighted. His voice has an incredible rich tone and his guitar playing was phenomenal and his band is very impressive as well! I felt very fortunate to have experienced such a great performance!

  • Colin doing what he does best

by ZZFan13579 on 2012-11-05Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Good show, nice mix of new and older material. Colin has a really tight band, and they are clearly having fun. Opening act (Dan Wilson, AKA Lee Harvey Osmond), continues Colin's habit of having old friends and collaborators open for him (last show of Colin's I saw featured Colin Linden as opener, and also on a few of the songs). Dan is a real character, and he did a greta job warming things up, and then came back on stage on some songs that he co-wrote with Colin. Overall, a great show in an excellent venue

Love his music and can really play a mean guitar. However, again, the sound system was poor - everyone in my group said the same thing - the music drowned out the vocals.

I have been listening and buying Colin James music since he started in the 80's and he just keeps getting better and better. Amazing guitarist, amazing vocalist, amazing entertainment. I loved it! Hard to pinpoint one favorite moment as it was all so good.

  • Unparalleled Colin!

by ZulyMox on 2012-11-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Colin James just keeps getting better! From the groovy new tunes to the well-loved, well-known stuff, he did it all with style. He's a gentleman, he's got class, he gives recognition to his entire band, and his voice just keeps getting better and better. Not to mention, his golden fingers just caress each and every string on every guitar and he does it effortlessly (it seems). I love it that Colin switches it up and collaborates with different song-writers - his style is so familiar, yet each new song is a gift. Can you tell I'm a loyal fan? I see him every time he comes to town - would highly recommend it to anyone!!

  • Wonderful evening!

by Chell on 2012-11-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Colin James was excellent. He's not much of a conversationalist, but man can that boy play the guitar! It was signature Colin James. He sounds as good now as he did 20 years ago. His voice is clear and strong, and it was so good to hear his classics. He did a mixture of his old and new stuff, but had the audience up and rocking out to his old classics. I was disappointed that he didn't play " Chicks and Cars and the Third World War", but he did do "Voodoo Thing", "Why d'ya Lie", "Just Came Back", etc. He had me mesmerized when he did "Into the Mystic". I love that song, and it sounds great live. It was FANTASTIC !!

  • Colin James is just simply the best guitar player!

by DoryPacholko on 2012-11-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Colin James simply knows the true blues behind Rock'n Roll and his music is uniquely his!!! Though his CD's and individual songs of his are rarely heard and hard to find, his concerts are well known to attend through anticipation of performance. I personally enjoy the performance when he stands alone to finger blaze his guitar or plays out riffs in a battle of guitars with other-on-stage-guitarists. How he plays his guitar is amazing and hypnotic where you cant take your eyes off of him or his Guitar. There are so many guitarists out there, but Colin is a rare breed where he is part of his guitar as he plays it. I simply love the way he plays it. I would also pay big money see Colin James, Billy Gibbons, and David Gilmour play on one stage one day in the most glorious show of battling guitars history would ever imagine. That would make for something to remember.... like an asteroid hitting the earth. Radio stations in Calgary play nothing but tiresome dementia of repeats in classic rock. For some reason all our stations forgot our other hits that were aired more than just 15years ago. The only time they seem to play those hits, such as Voodo Thang, is when Colin James is days away from playing live. The next day, they forget Colin was even here. And there are other great bands that no station plays anymore. This is perplexing.

  • Colin himself Good Show,

by Starstruck on 2012-11-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

Like his old songs best, so took a while to get to those. Did not enjoy Lee Harvey Osmond, then a 20 min intermission. By the time Colin came on stage one hr after start of concert, we were in a bad mood. Took a while to warm up to him.

  • Colin Rocks!

by scuttlebuttin on 2012-11-04Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Colin James has a soft spot for Calgary. He mentioned that he'd "been waitin' " to get there, and that he saw Stevie Ray Vaughn "in this room". He performed quite a show, playing many of his old hits, some new ones and a few covers from his new album. He had over 2 dozen guitars there that he used for each song, with some songs needing 2 different guitars. He was entertaining to watch, having a 6 piece band accompanying him, with talented musicians playing a variety of instruments. They played his songs live with gusto! I'd see him again.
