I have been going to see Coline since July 1, 1989! I love his voice, the way he makes a guitar sing, and how he has so much fun on stage. It was nice having Suzie McNeil as an opening act. I will never get tired of seeing & hearing Colin LIVE!
A ROCKING performance exploding with talent & energy ! LOVED IT !
He played well, and sang great but it was sort of evident that he was tired from his Montreal show - and he kept mentioning that. It was nothing that rocked the house but I love his music and lyrics, so I would recommend seeing him anyway.
What a fabulous show! Colin is a gifted musician, fabulous singer, marvelous showman and a classy gentleman. Can't wait to see him in concert again!
Fantastic show. Nice tribute to SRV. Tight, very professional band. Superb value for money.
This was one of the best performances I have seen ever... He was energetic, the band was extraordinary and too bad the seating was so close cause he just made you want to get up and dance the night away! All I can say is F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!!!
What a dynamite performance. The opening act, "Suzie McNeil" was pretty good, but Colin just blew the house down. Energetic, high calibre entertainment with non-stop music. He played some of his old classics, and a few cuts from the new CD "Rooftops and Satellites", and at nearly every moment, you could see the energy and effort he and his band were putting into the music.
Excellent concert - Colin James was in top form with excellent musicians. The NAC should bring in more acts like this so that babyboomers (and they were numerous) can enjoy a concert downtown...
After all these years and 13 releases, he and his band never seize to amaze me. Great song writer, and just great combination of lyrics, timing and rythm for a live performance. Every member of the band in in sync and tight. I've seen him maybe 5 times, and would gladly pay to see him anytime he is in eastern Canada.
Wow... that's the word... Wow, and Wow. What a show, Colin James really is perfectionnist, and also, he's so good at guitar... and Suzie, boy, she has a beautiful voice. Also, we were lucky to meet him at the end, took a picture while he was signing autograph, and we got one as well. He seem to be down to hearth, and was really smiling. The only negative thing, is that at the beginning, they had a hard time with the sound, Colin kept going back and forth to the side to let the team know about some technical sound problems. To many good songs to tell you wich one I enjoyed more... but I really adore "Man gotta be a stone".
i have seen colin james MANY times.... always a treat...but last nite in the NAC --- UNBELIEVABLE extra treat!!!! suzie mcneil opened with an acoustic set.....a must see!!! both are amazing musicians....!!!
Have seen Colin James many many times and he is always a treat to see. He switches it up for every concert and he can play the guitar like few others. I highly recommend seeing him live because he puts on a very entertaining show.
The eve of the show, I was listening to a Montreal French radio station, and the MC mentioned that she was going to see Colin James after her show. I thought, oh no, Montreal, the city to party. Colin will be exhausted! And he was indeed. BUT, although he just found his voice 2 hours prior to showtime, he delivered big time. This was my second show at the NAC (I also attended the one at Winterlude last year), and what a treat it was to be in the 2nd row. Thanks Colin! Congratulations on your 13th album. Keep 'em coming!
The concert was quite good but Colin seemed a bit tired and seemed to have a few issues with the sound engineer that was slightly distracting. On the other hand he is an amazing guitar player and with the sound quality of the NAC it was a great sounding show.
I was sitting in the balcony arm and the accoustics were terrible. The mix was poor. I couldn't understand anything Colin James was singing. As for the program, It was a little to mainstream(AM radio). I was hoping there'd be more blues, which there was in the 2nd half, but still not nearly enough.
Colin started the evening with a bunch of new songs from Rooftops and Satellites. I must say, he was bang on last night. He surprised me with a cover of 'Stuck in the Middle With You'. He dedicated '5 Long Years' to "...someone I just met for the first time before the show...", who later (in the ladies room) I discovered was a cute little girl under 10. He rocked us with National Steel, Voodoo Thing, his ode to SRV.........then blew me away when he started....."I've got stones in my path's way......." FABULOUS... Craig Northey wasn't there, but still with him are a couple of guys from the Odds, and a new young Marley-reminiscent guy on the guitar that was excellent-crazy, freaked-out hair and all. One MAJOR highlight.......Tom Wilson, who looked liked he had just awoken from sleeping on a gutter in the streets of Hamilton, wearing a suit jacket that looked like he had retrieved it from the goodwill, and a pair of straggly jeans.....flippin' amazing.....a wild man with long unkempt hair and beard to match....he strummed that guitar like he was playing to liberate his soul from purgatory.........he helped Colin out with a spectacular rendition of 'Freedom'......a marvel to witness. A solid two hours of entertainment. And so, in closing, I say.........I still love you Colin!
Colin James was awesome - we ran out to buy his new CD the next day! Loved it!!
The show is full of energy and talent. I've been to see Colin James at least half a dozen times and the shows just get better and better - from the first time he stood on our table at a small bar in Hamilton making that guitar sing, to this great show, he and his band leave you wanting more. Would I see him again....ABSOLUTELY! If you want to see a show that makes you feel alive, this performer will do it...no fancy fireworks, smoke or dancing - just good honest music and a rockin' good time. BRAVO!
The Colin James of old is even better now. Lots of new stuff and of coarse the great old standards. Good seats but the venue, Hamilton Place, is a little outdated. Needs new more comfortable seats not attached to your neighbours. Great new people in the band but Colin still steals the show.
