  • Loved it!

by Moni on 2022-08-08Rating: 5 out of 5

She is a really good performer - you can tell she’s very detail oriented and a careful planner. She sang both our favourite songs - I’d do it all Again, and Like a Star. And I was so in love with both. Actually I did feel the band was just alright imo, I was surprised bc usually artist’s bands are REALLY good. But it was overall a really fun experience. And I loved the crowd! They were respectful, fun and cheerful.

  • Not that good

    by Leticia A on 2022-07-05Rating: 2 out of 5

I love Corinne music and voice for over a decade and I was super excited to watch her live, but it was a bit frustrating. They put the drums on the front of the stage and I could not listen to Corinne's voice. The drums were everything we could hear and people didn't stop in their seats.

  • Atmosphere was brutal!

    by V. L. on 2022-07-04The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

I haven't been to concert in YEARS so maybe this is just the way things are now?!?!? Why put a 7pm start time when the opener didn't go on till after 8 then the headliner after 9? And what... no announcer to even say who was taking the stage? Until the opener introduced herself 2 songs in I had no idea who it was. Then the concession stand never closed so all throughout the performance people where coming and going and changing seats and getting more popcorn and another beer and hey lets chat a little about how your cell in capturing the event (and blinding the person beside with the light!) Totally like I was listening to a CBR album in my friend's basement. There was zero respect for the artist and the other patrons who just wanted to watch the show without all those distractions. If this is live music now, I'd just as soon stay home!

  • High expectations exceeded

by Kevvie_G on 2022-07-03The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

What a great performance! Corinne sings with amazing dynamic control, excellent pitch, and soul. Some of her melodies are HARD to sing, not because of acrobatic runs, but because of difficult intervals and harmonic tension, but she nailed everything. This is particularly impressive because she DOESN’T have perfect pitch. She sings consistently in tune, but she is human and her pitch wavered slightly a couple of times. I applaud that because it means we are getting an artist with skill rather than help from genetics or (🤢) autotune. Her songs are accessible, yet there us plenty to dive into for an analytical musician like me. The band was great, but special kudos go to her keyboard player who handled a Nord, Rhodes, foot pedals, and vocals seamlessly. It took me a few songs to realize that there was no bass player, and I thought there might have been backing tracks. Then I looked at the Nord and saw where the elaborate bass lines were coming, with the foot pedals being used for more simple but …booming..bass lines. Corinne is not a jazz artist, but she brings a jazz sensibility to her music the way Sting, Paul Simon, and others do. It elevates the music beyond simple harmony without alienating those for whom jazz is too sophisticated. I’m an even bigger fan than I already was. She was also very genuine and graceful with not even a hint of diva/ prima dona attitude.

  • Incredible voices!!

by Nancy's living it up on 2022-07-03The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing show!! I discovered an incredibly talented artist from here in Toronto. Wow! Aria Kain has such an incredible voice. Then the amazing talent of Corrine is so magical! She totally drew us in and made the whole experience! Only change I would make is to put the keyboard and drums at the back of the stage because they sometimes drowned her out. Overall a great night, thank you!!

  • I really wanted to like it

by Shelley on 2022-07-02The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

The opener was awful. Just awful. Amazing voice but terrible songs. She went on forever. I was soooooo excited when Corinne came on stage. I have loved her for over a decade. Her presence was intense. Her voice is amazing but she does NOT enunciate. I wish I could have heard the lyrics to her beautiful songs. I brought my husband who is not familiar with the music, and it may as well have been in another language. I felt really sad and left as soon as I felt she was finished, although I wasn’t sure. I cried after…I felt guilty for not liking it.

  • Such a fun evening!

Corinne Bailey Rae has a flawless voice, and so much warmth and energy. I will make a point of seeing her again when I can. Also love the Danforth Music Hall as a venue. It is just the right size for a concert.

  • I didn't want it to end!!!

by Temilola on 2022-07-02The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I have been a fan of Corinne since 2006 when I first heard "Like A Star" on my radio in my bedroom in Lagos, Nigeria. I instantly fell in love with her and her music and looked forward to seeing her play live. Fast forward to June 2022 in Toronto, Canada where I finally got the opportunity to see her in concert. It was an EXPERIENCE!!! I didn't want it to end!! Corinne and her band had us all entranced. It was much more than I expected and very well worth it. Definitely look forward to seeing her again live.

  • Corinne Bailey @ QET

by MyHonestReview on 2010-05-04Queen Elizabeth Theatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

TorontoExcellent show by Corinne. Her graceful performance was just as I imagined it. Smooth and lyrical - love the Spanish guitar on Like A Star. Opening pair of songs with Corinne on the electric guitar were wicked and got the whole show kicked off to a great start. She seemed a bit shy but enjoyed the extremely warm welcome from the Toronto crowd. Opening act Merriweather's personality was pleasant enough but he was trying far too hard to be soulful (especially a counterpoint to Corinne's effortlessness) and lacked the vocal ability to pull it off. Too much forced grimaced bluesy ooooing and ahhiing coupled with boyband gestures to lyrics: pointing up when "high", touching the chest when singing "heart", touching the temple when "thinking" , thumb and pinky to ear when calling on the phone, and my favourite, clenched palm extended outward, rolling left and right to signify "driving" . The same gestures were repeatedly mimed through almost every song. All this and the man actually tried to cover a Leadbelly song. Yikes. My comment to the staff at the QET is to watch the distortion and reverb. You have a beautiful venue with an amazing sound system (I heard the range during the opening act - the sound system was great even if the opener wasn't.). Please don't be ruin your shows by participating in the common practice of turning up the volume until notes and words bleed into one another. When you have a singer with such clear vocals it's especially annoying. Most venues think that jacking it up to eleven for the featured act will better whip the audience into a frenzy. What it actutally does is have audience members leaving with comments like "great show (said only because they are fans of the performer), it's a shame the sound system sucks." Please distinguish yourself from the other venues and show some restraint. (*Note: I am not saying the show was too loud per se as I attend rock and alt rock shows, rather the volume was turned up too loudly for the clarity of this particular singer coupled with this particular sound system. Sound systems shouldn't indiscriminately make every artist sound grungy and dirty).

  • CBR

by TwoTone on 2010-04-27Queen Elizabeth Theatre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

I attended this concert last night in Toronto. I think that CBR is a very, very talented young woman. Her voice is just incredible. However, I found that the band, at times, overwhelmed her. Especially in her lower vocal range. She was drowned out by the loudness and intensity of the music and her words at times could not be understood. I also thought that the bass player was just a touch slow on almost all of the songs. CBR was her fantastic self. Song choice was great. She seemed relaxed and enjoying herself. Overall, everything CBR was good....the band ? Not so much....

  • Corinne was beautiful!!!

  • You're welcome back anytime Corinne!

    by Mattb217 on 2010-04-27Queen Elizabeth Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

She's got a dynamite voice that she uses with as much force or restraint that the songs require. She interacts well with the audience, albeit a bit shyly - which is forgiveable. I hope she comes back again - I would definitely attend.

  • Corinne Bailey Rae is here to stay!

    by JuneParis69 on 2010-04-27Queen Elizabeth Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Corinne is a spiritual artist who has the personal strength to maintain a deep and continual connection with the core of her soul. Her entrance onto the stage was quiet and gentle but her power emerged the moment she picked up her guitar and sang. Although aware of her audience, she remained within her spiritual core while performing for the first half hour. She was lifted from her trance when an audience member yelled, "We love you, Corinne." Her responsive smile was infectious. From that moment onward, her spiritual energy permeated from the stage and throughout the audience. Corinne and her band members are generous artists who will never disappoint. Corinne is an enlightened artist and a luminous star who will shine forever.

  • A Must See

by Anonymous on 2010-04-27Queen Elizabeth Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The Queen Elizabeth Theatre is a good venue for Cornine being a more intimate setting atmosphere and the acoustics is better than some arena or open air stadium. She moved quickly and professionally through the songs of her latest album the Sea and some other favorites. From the opening song she had the audience in a trance with her singing and no one there wanted to released from . I believe she is just a CD away from super stardom. I look forward to do this again and ofcourse I love her big hair.

  • Corinne was sweet and so very entertaining!

by AshleyLeps on 2010-04-27Queen Elizabeth Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The concert opened by the brilliant Daniel Merriweather, who was otherwise unknown to me yesterday. I instantly fell in love with Daniel's raspy, soulful voice as he sang through songs from his Love & War album. He also stuck around in the lobby to sign autographs, however, his album quickly sold out in a matter of minutes, and unfortunately, I wasn't able to get one! Quick note for organizers: Bring more albums for sale!!! Corinne came onstage at about 9pm, on time, and with the biggest and sweetest smile as the full theatre welcomed her. Clad in a loose black short-sleeved jumper and curly hair let loose, Corinne thanked everyone for coming out and began her set with a song off of her album, The Sea. She moved on to singing more songs off of The Sea as well as songs from her first album, including "Put Your Records On," which she introduced as "a song a lot of you may be familiar with"! She ended her set with the title song "The Sea," using an unsual flat table-top like strumming instrument that sounded almost like a harp. Shortly afterward, Corinne returned to the stage for an encore, singing a soulful rendition of "Que Sera Sera." Corinne's was performance and voice were nothing short of beautiful and effortless. Her voice was flawless and moved from song to song without hesitation or fatigue. Did I mention, she went through her set without even so much as a short intermission? She also sweetly thanked the audience after each performance of her songs, which I thought was so humble.
