  • soul lifting experience!!!!

I am an even bigger fan of Corinne B Rae now that i've seen her LIVE! The venue (the Commodore) was perfect for her - it was intimate and casual. She is so sweet and soulful and has an amazing voice and such a talented artist. She promised us that she would come back to Vancouver so that makes me very happy. The two covers she performed were outstanding as well - "que sera sera" by Doris Day and "i only have eyes for you" but with a sexy slow reggae beat - woohooh!!!!...it got hot and steamy in the joint :) Opening acts were great, especially Overtone from Joburg, South Africa. As you can see i only have good things to say so if you are considering going to concert, don't think twice about it - you won't reget it - it was a great night! Les

first to acts were great - fantastic venue - cornia used her own set up and the bass was so bad people were leaving! i would have loved to stay but the sound was way too painful - even the doorman had on ear plugs which they were selling for a buck

  • So much talent

    by august95 on 2010-04-11Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

The Commodore is always a good time. The venue is excellent. lots of space, friendly staff and the chance to elbow your way up to the front of the stage. The opening acts were very talented. Overtone, the 7 pcs acapella group from South Africa was a really pleasant surprise. Followed by Daniel Merriweather who was really cool and sang big and loud and full of conviction. Corinne Bailey Rae was excellent. During the first song the base was way to loud. Everyone yelled for them to turn it down and they did. After that, it was a talent filled night. Corinne is a tiny little thing with a big voice, filled with emotion. Her love of being onstage and singing for her fans show in a clear joy on her face. Her songs are heart breaking knowing the lose she has suffered. If you get a chance to see any of these artists, take it.

  • started way too late terrible

3 hours of waiting for Corrine Bailey Rae to play and then a mixer who seemed to think that the room needed to vibrate with bass. God Awful. By the time she started playing the energy was gone.

  • Corinne Bailey Rae was fabulous!

    by Tan37 on 2010-04-11Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

The price was right. I could have done with only one opening band, Corinne wasn't on until 11:00. The sound was horrible for the first two songs. The bass make my teeth rattle but the sound dude fixed it and the rest of the show was awesome.. Corinne is a wonderful singer and the event was well worth the hassle of going into Vancouver.

  • Corinne Bailey Rae is such a beautiful artist!

by Chickassa on 2010-04-10Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Corinne's band was solid. Beautiful, hypnotic sounds and re-makes of some original songs she chose for example, "Que Sera Sera." Her voice is so sexy and sultry. It was such a delight to just see her sing. It made everyone happy just to see the way she sang her songs. Full of joyful emotions. She was so cute and sexy at the same time. This girl will be around for years to come. She's got talent, beauty, and the sound of her innocent, eccentric voice. She was able to capture her fans through her songs, singing, and her great charming, classy personality.

  • CBR is the best

I love everything about this amazing woman - her writing - her performing - her voice - her passion - her stage prescence - her choice of stage support - I bought her DVD and was playing it at home - then my wife Wendy asked... who is that ... and that led us to the Commodore to see Corinne ... at 60 we were not impressed with the 10:45pm start ... but that dissolved away when the set started and that incredible voice kicked in. We stood stage left and really felt in the moment with this group and their pulse ... able to read the eyes and spirit of the moment we were sharing... more to say --- but it comes down to god bless you all ... and Corinne especially for being in touch with so much real emotion with all that you do.... love love love.... • Great artist, poor sound quality

by rockmom on 2010-04-10Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

Some artists these days really seem to rely on technology to produce an entertaining show. In this case, it detracted from the overall quality of the performance. Corrine Bailey Rae is such a talented and appealing singer with a smooth, unique voice that it was such a shame that the bass overpowered her strong vocals and there always seemed to be reverberation. Also, the overall volume of the entire concert, including the opening acts, was too loud. It was too bad because she had a good repoire with her audience and sang a nice blend of old and new songs. A beautiful and creative cover of "I Only Have Eyes for You" would have been amazing if it weren't for the poor sound system.

Wow! What a natural talent Corrine Bailey Rae is!!! Her beautiful voice flows straight from her pure and honest heart. A great concert and an exhilarating experience listening to and watching her up close. I cannot wait to see her again. She is a rare talent, indeed. We went as a family and now our only wish is to be able to see her in an old intimate jazz club sort of venue, rather than twist our spines trying to watch her around the curves of other standing bodies, some with hats on top!

Last night I had the good fortune to witness a magical performance by the incomparable Corinne Bailey Rae. It is rare when you hear an artist perform, who is just as incredible live (without the multitude of electronic “clean up” devices!) as they are on their CDs. Such is the talent of CBR that she can proudly make this claim. I have seldom seen any musical artist exude the degree of charm, warmth and sincerity that Corinne does. To be honest, her singing and her stage presence made me (for the first time in my life!) want to run up on stage and give her a hug!! Equally impressive, were the band who backed her up. All in all, it was a great evening, and a tremendous reminder of the joy of “live” music, when it is performed by someone who is as accomplished as Corinne Bailey Rae. If she ever returns to Vancouver, do yourselves a favour, and check out her show. You will not be disappointed!!

  • Not sure

by Newthemwhen on 2010-04-10Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

First band was fun and raised the energy in the room. Second performer "killed" the energy. Corrine Bailey Rae started too late and the sound from her backup band was terrible and drowned her out. Corrine Bailey Rae herself was great.

  • CORINNE BAILEY RAE channels Billie Holiday

by PoeticGem on 2010-04-10Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

After suffering through two opening acts... then enduring the first 1/2 of her act with the sound vibrating so loud it was distorting both her voice and the music....FINALLY everything came together! Ms. Bailey Rae voice seemed to improve with every song feeding off the love of the crowd. Both her style and mannerisms reminiscent of Billie Holliday with both her hairstyle and they way she holds out her arms as through she is reaching for the crowd's energy! She WAS worth the suffering -. love love love her.

  • Corrine Bailey Rae - Better Than Ever

by FancyGirl on 2009-11-30The Drake Hotel - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Her much anticipated return did not disappoint last night at the intimate venue in the Drake Hotel. Ms. Rae is in fine form and her voice is as powerful and angelic as ever. Her new style is a departure from the girlish charm of her first CD, it's got more of a club sound and some great tracks for dancing. She is back and better than ever. Can't wait until February to get her new CD. When she returns to Toronto, it will be a not to miss show!

Great new tunes with an R&B groove, and a voice that surprises you with it's range, especially after hearing Corinne speak to the audience. Great venue - the set list was short, but the new songs were very listenable, especially Paper Dolls and Paris Nights / NY Mornings, my two favorites from the show. Also enjoyed the songs from the last album including of course, "Turn Your Record On". Will be buying the new album and catching the next Toronto show.
