About

Dave Chappelle Live Performance and Tour

Dave Chappelle, mastermind behind sketch comedy goldmine Chappelle's Show, made a triumphant return to stand-up comedy in 2013. While he's beloved for his famous impersonations of Rick James and Prince, Chappelle doesn't rely on old material for his stand-up act, treating fans to an all-original show featuring extensive improvisation as he interacts with audiences. At his 2013 performances on The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival, which he co-headlined with Flight of the Conchords, Chappelle had fans rolling on the floor, building anticipation for his highly coveted 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT

Born David Khari Webber Chappelle in Washington, D.C., Dave Chappelle studied theatre arts in high school before moving to New York City to pursue standup comedy. Despite getting booed off stage at the Apollo Theater's infamous "Amateur Night," he remained resilient, going on to make a name for himself on the New York comedy circuit. Following several successful film appearances in the '90s, including a starring role in 1998 cult classic Half Baked, Chappelle debuted his namesake sketch comedy show on Comedy Central in 2003, finding both critical and commercial success. In 2006 he released Dave Chappelle's Block Party, a concert film set in Brooklyn featuring performances by Kanye West, The Roots, and a temporarily-reunited Fugees.

  • Don't be afraid.... Chappelle is a legend!!

by BNess on 2013-10-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing show. Any concerns of him not bringing what we all wanted to the show were crushed. He is as good and even better than we remembered him. Keep it real Dave!!! I would go see him again 10 more times if I could. A night to remember!

Unprepared performance. It wasn't as funny as I anticipated. His older material was better. Be ready to watch him lay on the stage and smoke a whole pack.

  • Really good, but not incredible

by CheatedCanuckFan on 2013-10-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Dave Chappelle is a comedic genius, but this show felt like he was just hanging out and telling some jokes. He wasn't on a mission to deliver a certain routine in a certain amount of time. It was an interesting dynamic, but it didn't leave me crying in laughter the way his show and dvd specials did. I still recommend everyone goes to see him though. The interesting thing about this style of show is that you could probably go 4 different times and see 4 different shows

Dave Chappelle was incredible. He continues to hold his title as a legendary stand-up comedian. The fact he hasn't done much work in the last 10 years, doesn't have a website or twitter page, he can sell out 2 shows in Vancouver B.C. and adding 2 more due to demand goes to show what talent he has. Absolutely great, never experienced him live before and very appreciative to be there.

  • This is definitely a highlight of my life!!!!

Loved every moment of this for sure. He was such a good comedian and person that night. Definitely would love to see him again. Him being relaxed and telling us some hilarious jokes made spending the money feel priceless. Thanks Dave chappelle!!!! It was an unforgettable evening with my brothers.

  • Chapelle put on a good show

    by Cordy1 on 2012-10-21Winter Garden Theatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Chappelle did an amazing job that night. There was some good improv done, and though the hecklers took up the remaining part of the show at the end, there was some good back and forth amongst him and the audience. His opening act Gilson Lubin was hilarious and had the crowd rolling. I thoroughly enjoyed my night and would see Chappelle again for sure. Stories were great, and there was no big fiasco. The theatre gave it a forest feeling with fake leaves and branches.

  • On the Precipice of Greatness

Rick James is Dead! After seeing this show I can say that Dave Chappelle is evolving into a more mature comic and if he stays the course could go down in history with masters of comedy like Carlin, Pryor, Bruce & Hicks.

  • Dave Chappelle Stand Up

    by Shivers411 on 2012-08-26Winter Garden Theatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

First of all, Dave Chappelle was amazing! Wednesday was the last of three shows that Chappelle put on in Toronto at the Winter Gardens Theatre. The venue was a good choice because it was very intimate. He had all new material and was hilarious! He talked about going to Africa, Obama etc. Before entering the venue we were told that there would be zero tolerance on cell phone usage (tweeting, messaging or taking pictures). And that hecklers would be kicked out by Chappelle himself. Drake made a special appearance as the DJ for the night and played classics during intermissions. He was sitting at table with his DJ on the stage and remained on stage behind Chappellle while he was doing his act. This was not a good idea because it seems that the audience was distracted by him. Drake should have been sitting in the audience at the front - not on the stage. Also, since Drake was on stage, it would have been nice for Chappelle to do a musical parody with Drake or something. I wish Chappelle ended the show at 11:30pm because the last half hour of the show Chappelle encouraged the audience to ask questions. Citizens of Toronto asked such silly questions that at one point Chappelle said, "this audience is retarded". Instead of kicking people out, Dave answered their pathetic questions only fueling them to ask more and more stupid questions. People would ask a question and before Chappelle could answer another stupid question was asked by another audience member.

  • boring

First 30 mins were good. Classic Chappelle. Then he ran out of things to talk about. He reached to the audience to ask question, u can imagine how over an hour of that can be lame. Too bad. At least I didn't pay 500 a pair at scalpers rates. Dave, hiding did not suit you. It whipped out your relevance.

  • Really Dave??

by TheBanks on 2012-08-24Winter Garden Theatre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

I don't know if everyone else felt the same but I was a little disappointed with the show. It started off great, the opener was pretty funny, Dave's first 45 minutes was super funny. That's when the Q&A started. I don't know if he didn't have enough material for a whole show or he just didn't care but this ruined it for me. All the dumb a$$ questions that were asked got to me. I came to see some stand up, not an interview. This was the first time I have ever seen him live and I would still go again because he is still friggin' hilarious...but just don't do any Q&A again...please.

  • Great to see Chappelle

by Simplesam on 2012-08-24Winter Garden Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I really didn't know what to expect but knew I was really excited to see DC on the Monday. I think he did a stellar job and connected with the audience by alluding to Chappelle show jokes, being real and addressing him leaving the show. Dave was hilarious - so happy to have knocked him off my bucket list!

  • I Laughed, I Cried, I Sat In The Forrest!

by Steelcity on 2012-08-23Winter Garden Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

What can I even say? I laughed uncontrollably for just over 2 hours. My eyes were raw from wiping away the tears, that is how much I laughed. There was a lot of improvisation and some back and forth with the crowd and it was all funny. Gilson Lubin opened up with a short 15 minute set but had the audience rolling with some very funny jokes of his own. The Winter Garden Theatre gives you the feeling of being in the garden of a medieval castle with fake branches and leaves covering the roof and painted walls to match. I was reminded of Chappelle's Show and although I miss it, the hour and 45 minute set was just as memorable.

  • Chappelle Conquers Canada

    by Vinman26 on 2012-08-23Winter Garden Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Dave did a marathon set and it never felt like some pre-packaged show that he has been doing every night for the last 10 months. The first 15 minutes were Canada specific. He responded to comments from the crowd. All in all, it felt like we were sitting in someone's basement and he was just hanging out being funny as hell. the man is a comic genius. Best live comedy performance I have ever seen.

Fantastic performance by a comedy legend. The show was absolutely hilarious.

  • by Anonymous on 2012-08-22Winter Garden Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Chappelle is funnier than ever!! Definitely liked the choice of the smaller intimate theatre atmosphere over say a venue like the ACC...judging from the huge line-ups outside he definitely could have sold out the ACC with no issues.

  • Chappelle Show Toronto

by Jsnjay on 2012-08-22Winter Garden Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Witnessed a legend. Funniest Stand up I've ever been to.

  • Chapelle is back!

by MzGeorgia on 2012-08-22Winter Garden Theatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

What a night! Dave Chapelle returned to explain what he's been doing since leaving the Chapelle show and walking away from a 50 million dollar contract. He spoke about politics, his family and life in general. He was funny, witty and clever and it was an honour to be able to get a chance to seem him perform. It was the best comedy show I've been to.
