About

Dave Chappelle Live Performance and Tour

Dave Chappelle, mastermind behind sketch comedy goldmine Chappelle's Show, made a triumphant return to stand-up comedy in 2013. While he's beloved for his famous impersonations of Rick James and Prince, Chappelle doesn't rely on old material for his stand-up act, treating fans to an all-original show featuring extensive improvisation as he interacts with audiences. At his 2013 performances on The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival, which he co-headlined with Flight of the Conchords, Chappelle had fans rolling on the floor, building anticipation for his highly coveted 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT

Born David Khari Webber Chappelle in Washington, D.C., Dave Chappelle studied theatre arts in high school before moving to New York City to pursue standup comedy. Despite getting booed off stage at the Apollo Theater's infamous "Amateur Night," he remained resilient, going on to make a name for himself on the New York comedy circuit. Following several successful film appearances in the '90s, including a starring role in 1998 cult classic Half Baked, Chappelle debuted his namesake sketch comedy show on Comedy Central in 2003, finding both critical and commercial success. In 2006 he released Dave Chappelle's Block Party, a concert film set in Brooklyn featuring performances by Kanye West, The Roots, and a temporarily-reunited Fugees.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY

"Funniest live performance I've witnessed to date. You will be quoting Chappelle after the show. I was laughing so hard that it started to hurt. Great show from start to finish."

"Dave...he is a comedic genius and one of the best ever. He was amazing and I wished I could have gotten in line and gone to the second show!"

"He was hilarious. Talked about some of his history and was not afraid to get the audience involved. I had a great time."

    My time is valuable

by StandUpFan on 2013-10-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

This show was supposed to start at 10:15 and I think it started closer to 11:30 and then after the opening act finished for 30 mins we had to listen to a DJ spin because I am assuming Dave was being a diva and wasn't ready to come out just yet. Once the show started (after multiple warnings that if you heckled poor Dave's feelings would be hurt) Dave was very funny and worth seeing. The show ended just after 1:30am which would have been okay if it was a weekend but I had to work at 6am the next morning and I hate when artists act like your time means nothing to them and this was certainly the case with Dave Chapelle, basically if I had known it was going to end that late I would not have gone.

    Dave Chappelle... Amazing!

by JayH on 2013-10-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Saw the last of 4 shows in two days... You'd never know he had just finished the 3 show only a couple of hours earlier. A consummate professional! If you get the chance, do not hesitate.

    second hand smoke,,,,,not cool!

by mmkk on 2013-10-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

We had good laughed but I did not purchase tickets to inhale all dave chappelle cigarettes smoke. He made us so long to wait between opener and him, then show up on stage smokIng cigarettes in non smoking theater and continuously smoke the cigarettes. Therefore, disappointed for this part.

    Grand setting!

by MaliSrle28 on 2013-10-10Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The venue is classy and the seat layout is great no matter where you are. Dave held it down for the night. He did a great set and even went the extra mile to make this show an intimate experience. Loved the way he incorporated his real life family experience. I would highly recommend both The Show and QE Theatre

Chappelle - started late and stayed long........

by Chooch on 2013-10-10Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

First time seeing Dave Chappelle live. He didn't dissapoint! Strolled across the stage at around 11:30 with a cigarette dangling in his fingers. Don't know how he got away with that..... 80 minutes later after several cigarettes had been lit and extinguished on the QE stage and many hilarious stories had been detailed he left. Leaving us behind with memories of him recently being booed in Connecticut (no love loss there....), family life and comparisons of Canada and his native US. Dave's one funny cat.

Too Short and Not really that funny

by Gp39 on 2013-10-10Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

My boyfriend and I were so excited to go and see Dave Chappelle. I surprised him with tickets for his brithday. We got there at 7.20pm and the show was meant to start at 7.30pm. Show didn't end up starting until almost 8pm. The opening comic was quite funny and he was on for about 10-15 mins. Then the DJ said Dave would be coming out soon. Another 10 minutes go by. During that time hords of poeple got up to use the washroom and get drinks. Then finally Dave came on but only for half an hour and wasn't really that funny! He mumbled a lot so I didn't really catch a lot of his jokes. I was back at my house by 9.30pm. Was a real dissapointment.

a chappelle delivery on some regular jokes

by Jaguar007 on 2013-10-10Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

i have been a chappelle fan for a long time. so i came out a bit disappointed on monday night. dont get me wrong, chappelle performed well, but the show was missing something. maybe it was because that was the last of his 4 performances (the 2nd that night) over 2 days. the first thing was that i was on the balcony, and everyone had to lean in to hear what he was saying. it was really not loud enough!!! a lot of times the funny stuff he says is under his breath, and me and my friends simply couldn't hear that. now, his material. it was alright, but i felt he kind of tamed his set, at least compared to his other past comedy shows. now the family man he is, he had some family-type jokes, which reminded me a bit of kevin hart. his story-telling as jokes are not bad, but the final punches although okay, were not as funny. since he has been outta comedy since he cancelled his show for years, it woulda been nice if he talked about that a bit. i was hoping he would touch on some touchy subjects like lifestyle in hollywood, personalities, the racism he's encountered, etc, but he just stepped away from all that. which was okay. the joke about the woman he tried to seduce, and played off to his wife as a babysitter, was near the end, but i just felt didn't deliver... maybe the problem is i think of Chappelle in his prime with his previous HBO specials, like for what its worth etc...now he's just in a different phase... also some of his jokes were old, like the thing he mentioned about The Secret. That's from 2010, his underground london shows...

    Dave Chappelle

by Kath30 on 2013-10-10Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Loved this performance. It was the only comic I have ever seen that seemed unscripted & talked about whatever he wanted. He connected with the audience. I also appreciated that the QE theatre let him do whatever he wanted- he pushed the boundaries. Would go back again if I could!

Graham Clark rocks! Dave Chapelle: dry and mumbly

by Squirrelly2 on 2013-10-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Did he really down five beers backstage before coming out. He was getting tired half-way through his set and was mumbling and drawling and pausing so much, we couldn't understand what he was saying. And he was lying down at the front of the stage--was he ready to fall asleep? The opener Graham had the room fired up. Too bad that Dave wasn't at the top of his form.

    Dave Chappelle

by Kimmy7 on 2013-10-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

It was hard to hear him for a good portion of the show. It might've been that Dave wasn't holding the microphone close to his mouth because whenever he moved it close, the sound was fine. The PA team should've given him cues to keep the mic close to his mouth. He was hilarious nonetheless, anything less would be unexpected.

    Chappelle was meh

by shaneinvan on 2013-10-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Guy beside me fell asleep, The Chappelle Show was awesome, but as far as a standup comedian goes he was lacklustre and was more interested in chain smoking and pretending to laugh at his own jokes. I was very disappointed.

Don't be afraid.... Chappelle is a legend!!

by BNess on 2013-10-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

What an amazing show. Any concerns of him not bringing what we all wanted to the show were crushed. He is as good and even better than we remembered him. Keep it real Dave!!! I would go see him again 10 more times if I could. A night to remember!

Unprepared performance. It wasn't as funny as I anticipated. His older material was better. Be ready to watch him lay on the stage and smoke a whole pack.

    Really good, but not incredible

by CheatedCanuckFan on 2013-10-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Dave Chappelle is a comedic genius, but this show felt like he was just hanging out and telling some jokes. He wasn't on a mission to deliver a certain routine in a certain amount of time. It was an interesting dynamic, but it didn't leave me crying in laughter the way his show and dvd specials did. I still recommend everyone goes to see him though. The interesting thing about this style of show is that you could probably go 4 different times and see 4 different shows

Dave Chappelle was incredible. He continues to hold his title as a legendary stand-up comedian. The fact he hasn't done much work in the last 10 years, doesn't have a website or twitter page, he can sell out 2 shows in Vancouver B.C. and adding 2 more due to demand goes to show what talent he has. Absolutely great, never experienced him live before and very appreciative to be there.
