  • Brilliant

by Khat on 2022-03-27Meridian Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I saw David Sedaris about 11 years ago in Vancouver and the growth, the honesty with which he expresses himself and tackles difficult emotions has just developed so much more! He would be at my “5 people I would want to have dinner with”!

  • Wonderful evening! I could have listened forever

    by Theater-goer on 2022-03-27Meridian Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

It was a wonderful performance, I could have stayed listening with rapt attention for ages! I wish the venue had held on to masking requirements a bit longer, and offered coatcheck services, but the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

  • Always a Pleasure

by Stephen on 2022-03-03Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

It's just such a pleasure to spend time in David's company. This is the second time we've enjoyed his presence at the SA Jubilee, and we will look forward to the next time!

  • Charming Author

by ahs on 2022-03-02Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Mr Sedaris has lost non of his ascerbic wit but has become the charming man of letters rather than the wildly hilarious author of a few years back. Perhaps age has settled him. When he reads his stories, though, he can still weave magic. I have been to three of his shows, all enjoyable. I could listen to his readings forever!

  • Sedaris is so good, needed the laughs.

Excellent show, loved the narrative and the presentation

  • Sedaris was excellent, venue negligent

by Ganadun on 2022-03-02Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

David Sedaris was wonderful, such an excellent writer and very entertaing as expected, could have listened to him for hours more. The venue/organizer sure didn't seem to care about covid protocols at all, did not check for vaccination status or have any kind of social distancing at the venue. I really hope the masks were enough.

  • Sedaries was brilliant!

He had the entire auditorium in splits. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

  • Outstanding Show

by Mark T on 2019-10-15Meridian Hall (formerly Sony Centre for the Performing Arts) - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

David was amazing. Having never seen him before he far exceeded my expectations and had my parents and I laughing out loud the entire evening. We also stayed after the show and had a chance to meet him and chat with him during his book signing. He’s a legend and I’ll definitely go again.

will watch again for sure! David Sedaris is a very funny mix of flight and fancy. i find it really funny how he came across reading his books because that was exactly how i imagined he would sound like when i was reading his books!

David Sedaris is hilarious!! Hearing his name makes me giggle! I love his readings, they never disappoint. He is one of the few performers I just never want to miss when he comes to Toronto!! I LOVED seeing him again!!

  • Very, very funny and hugely enjoyable!

Do NOT go if you are easily offended or can’t hear some graphic language. It is not random, it always fits the story and frankly, is really, really hilarious. If you buy a book, he graciously signs everyone’s copy and will chat with you for a bit but DO NOT invite him to eat the food that he has sitting beside him or he will fix you with a direct stare and say “ I HATE when people tell me to eat” and you will stand there like a chastised child.

  • I think I lost weight...

by Lytricia on 2019-10-14Meridian Hall (formerly Sony Centre for the Performing Arts) - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

...laughing so hard. Counted it as a work out! I loved the way Mr. Sedaris unapologetically retold the stories of his experiences growing up in a family of characters who were at times, larger than life. Coming from a family of 10 myself, I know first hand what waking up each morning excited for the day to begin because of people who would be joining me at the breakfast table is like. I thoroughly enjoyed his stories because they mirrored many of the experiences of my own life. David appears to be a soft easy going soul who looks for the joy in life and I really enjoyed my time with him.

  • A heads up would have been nice

by Harry Paratestes on 2019-10-14Meridian Hall (formerly Sony Centre for the Performing Arts) - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Great show, but maybe let us know the book signing was going on before and after. Would have gone in earlier.

  • A Fun Evening

by CyndiLou on 2018-05-18Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

I brought along a friend who had never been ‘to this kind of comedy’ and it was a lovely fun evening. We were happy to bring in a beverage to sip and relax as we listened to David read his essays. He was funny and he can say things that sometimes we just think about. I am interested in his new book coming out, his observation of life and how it unfolds in all its peculiarity is the most fun. You can’t make this stuff up!!!!

David Sedaris is a brilliant story teller, witty and charming. I have never laughed so much at a performance, I wish I could go again.

  • David Sedaris is hilarious

by beacher on 2018-05-18Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed him. Was laughing 1 minute into the show and kept laughing until he walked off the stage. Brilliant writer, speaker and observer of humanity. I will seek him out again in the future. I wish I had known he would be signing after the show. Next time I will be prepared for that!

  • A lot of laughter

by shelz on 2017-10-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I cannot lie, with the exception of one Christmas story (which my husband plays the audio recording every year), I was mostly unfamiliar with David Sedaris' work and had no idea what to expect. Well I can easily say I laughed a LOT! It was a simple show, one man, a podium, and excerpts from his books and diaries, but such a fantastic storyteller. There is a lot of swearing and what some might consider almost vulgar detail, but somehow David Sedaris manages to pull it off in a way that's not only humourous but almost eloquent in its delivery. The only downside to this show was entirely to blame on the venue. The Sony Centre is a lovely facility but the volume was SO low! I have exceptional hearing but struggled throughout the entire show. David Sedaris is a rather soft spoken performer and I had higher expectations of the venue.
