I found the sound to be a bit off, especially when upstairs at Danforth Music Hall.
I was standing on the sloping floor (bad for the logs, ankles and feet, but good for sightlines) just in front of the soundboard. You'd think that the guys working the soundboard would at least make sure that the sound was good for them. It wasn't. It was very poor, quite 'muddy'. Just not enjoyable at all. I left after the first set. Did Dawes use their own sound person(s)? If so they did not get a grip of the venue. If it was the venue's sound person(s) then they did not get a grip on the band/venue. Disappointing
I had the best time at this show! Dawes never disappoints and the venue (Danforth Music Hall) was perfect for them. Bravo! Can’t wait to see them again.
Been following Dawes for a few years now, and saw them recently in Toronto. As I looked around, I saw that there was such a diversity of people - all cool, all there for the music and the magic of sharing a moment of suspended reality. Fellas came out and played perfectly - what was really great was the energy between audience and musicians -- they were quite amazed that when they played songs from their new album (had only been released a few weeks before) almost everyone knew the words...and sang along with them...so here's to Dawes and all those that made the night a perfect escape - "may all your favourite bands stay together" Cheers, everyone.
This was one of the best shows I've seen in a while, and I've seen some terrific bands recently. Playing new material, as well as material from their debut album, dawes gave an energetic, enthralling, memorable and totally skilled performance. They drew the crowd in from the first note and did not let go until they left the stage. 100% reccomend checking these guys out. Cannot say enough good things about the show.
