Wonderful singing and musicianship. Interpreting an 800 yr old song is a feat in itself.
I wanted them to sing all night and they almost did! So amazing they were they had to come out three times at the end of the show and sing some more. Their voices are even better live.
I was looking forward to this concert, but nothing prepared me for being totally blown away. If you think their voices shine on their CDs, this was a whole new level. Multiple standing ovations.
Venue was great, the crowd was cool, and the band AMAZING! I was hesitating if I should go or not (the price was high), but I am really glad we went. It was perhaps the best concert I've ever been to in Canada. Even the opening was great.
A BRILLIANT performance! WOULD SEE AGAIN! THANK YOU DEAD CAN DANCE, been a fan since 1987!
I found out about Dead Can Dance through my husband who is a music freak! I wondered what all the fuss was about until I say them live. Absolutely stunning!
Amazing experience!!!! I had goosebumps hearing them play.
It was more like a rehearsal than a full price concert. Poor PA, lots of mis-steps and mistakes. This is not the the tour of 15 years ago when they were in their prime. Nice to see them. Lisa was so-so at best. Brendan at least looked like he was trying. Too much synth, not enough percussion. Two stars and that's for trying.
never have i wanted to see a band so badly and been so disappointed. first 1/2 hour was very good - reminded me of a gothic operatic Doors style band. then it got to sounding the same. repetitous and indulgent. i have waited 20 years to see this band and left before it was over. many people were in rapture, i know. but i was hoping for more edge, i daresay more "music". I know they are very rhythmic, and expected that, but i was looking for them to go outside the box - it seemed too controlled. yes i know they are not phish...anyway i was in the minority i guess, but many people left before the encore. i've seen hundreds of bands, but i expected something else from DCD. my mistake i guess,
Wonderful music performed with creativity and passion. Brendan and Lisa were both in excellent voice. For the first night technical glitch was quite forgiveable. Simply but effective lighting and set designed added to the ambience. A Warm and appreciative crowd rewarded with several encores. Including a finale duet by Lisa and male keyboardist. Truly glad I did not miss this show, even though they surprisingly did not play 'Severance'.
Just want to say how fabulous the concert was. Dead can dance are amazing!!!! Loved how they played 4 songs for the encore!! Really really good performance that leaves you wanting more!! Thanks Dead Can Dance :)
The concert had 3 encores- that speaks for itself. Since it was the first concert of the tour there were a few gremlins they will work out, But..Tickets were available on the day of the show and seats were available. After the concert it turns out most people did no know Lisa Gerrard was performing in Vancouver!! The advertising should definitely have mentioned her by name. The audience clearly loved every minute of it and their worship of her was apparent : )
Vancouver's historic Orpheum Theatre as the location for the kickoff of their tour was nothing short of genius! This theatre is everything that DCD is: beautifully crafted, eclectic, representing a bygone age of substance over style, this is no cheap veneer but quality that runs right to the heart, quality that is becoming so rare in today's world. The opening act was playing these steel flying saucer things called 'Hang' that has a decidedly melodic and emotionally haunting tone. The pieces played by David Kuckhermann were a perfect way to set the tone for the evening. His playing of these unusual instruments was nothing less than masterful. When the rest of the band hit the stage most notably the duo of Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard there was a standing ovation. There were many such displays of appreciation and respect heard throughout the evening. Many of the classic favourites were heard such as Rakim and Host of Seraphim as well as much of their newest work from Anastasis and some of Lisa' work from the Gladiator soundtrack. They received riotous applause and 4 encores sending all into the night thoroughly impressed and amazed by their performance. Amazing!!
Seen them before... This time, they were not so organised and into it. I bought $90 tix and I overpaid. Thought it was worth around $40. I miss the bigger percussion section. What also didnt help ....Some idiots kept yelling out between songs. It was tacky. Try tweeting them instead.
the sound system was much too powerful for the venue ... the Orpheum has great acoustics & the "earthquake" base was over the top! In many numbers, the base drowned Lisa out & that was disappointing. The CD is fantastic, without the ear blowing base It was great to see them ... I'll stick to CD on my Bose ... much more cost effective I would recommend - but with qualifiers
What can I say? Amazing, amazing, amazing ..... And that was despite technical difficulties and being the first stop on their world tour. I felt proud to be a Vancouverite, with all the love shown to this band (and returned I thought). How many of you have seen three encores before? That really was brilliant!
